Tried the Oklahoma Burger at Pennies in Toronto out of pure curiosity (had to represent Oklahoma), and it absolutely delivered. The burger was rich and indulgent, with deeply caramelized onions, a perfectly seasoned patty, and a soft bun that held everything together. The tater tots were ultra-crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and dangerously snackable. Bonus points for the fun, low-lit vibe and casual atmosphere. A must-visit for elevated comfort food lovers.

Gord and I had supper last evening at Pennies (on Strachan Avenue/Adelaide Street W). We wanted to sit on the patio but it was crowded so we sat inside. Gotta love complimentary popcorn! We ordered the 3 sliders/tater tot combos. We both got a Creamy Garlic Fried Chicken' slider (iceberg, pickles, creamy garlic sauce - mine without iceberg) and a Korean Fried Chicken' slider ('slaw, KFC sauce, mayo, sesame - mine without slaw). Gord got a Filet Au Fish slider (pickles, iceberg, dill ranch) and I got a Classic Hamburger slider (pickles, ketchup, mustard). All were good. There were lots of tater tots and we took most home ... there are enough for a couple meals! Kyra took good care of us.

Every time we pass by this place during after work hour there's always a long line. So we decided to check it out. During their happy hour, they have a good selections of drinks for a great price! The sliders are okay, I think my favourite is the Korean fried chicken. Their tots are unbeatable! We had a weird encounter when we stopped by, it wasn't busy or crowded during the time we arrived. But yet our server seated us (3 people plus a dog) at table that had other customers, which made us feel uncomfortable (there were empty tables). We had to request to be moved. Everyone after us didn't get to get seated to a table with customers. The service was ok. The server was attentive and kept asking if everything was good, it also made us felt rushed to some senses as she kept asking if we need anything else every so often. Overall, the place is a vibe, and it's a good spot to hang out with friends during the summer.

This place is a must visit! The bartender was great, helpful, friendly and easy going. The cocktails were simple but delicious and the food was my kind of fancy junk food. We tried so many different things and it was all great! They even have a vegan menu, for those who are and it looked pretty decent. Would recommend!

Great value, nice big tables and patio makes for a great place to spend a Saturday or to grab food before a night out.

Overall: 3.5/5 We arrived around 8:00 pm on a Friday night and there was a line outside with multiple groups. The hostess told us that it would be approximately a half hour wait, but we were seated before then. The outdoor patio is quaint and fun, with string lights and fun yellow picnic tables. Pennies offered complimentary self-serve popcorn, and a menu containing an assortment of sliders and tots. I ordered the Combo No. 5 (choice of 3 sliders + O.G. tots), and picked the bacon cheeseburger, creamy garlic fried chicken, and korean fried chicken. The chicken sliders were crispy and tasty, with my favourite being the creamy garlic. However, the cheeseburger was very dry and only came with mustard. The burger itself was nothing special and reminiscent of a McDonalds value menu burger. The popcorn was too salty, but may have been an off batch that night. Individually, the sliders are quite expensive for their size ($5.69/each), but not bad for the $20 combo if you're looking for a cheap bite and a place to grab a drink with friends. On Monday nights, their combo is half-priced for under $10. I'd recommend coming on a day where you could take advantage of their deals.

Let me just start off by saying the best tater tots! They were super crispy and just melted in your mouth. If you are looking for a cheap spot to go out with friends this is your spot! We came during their happy hour (3-5pm) and while they were having their Monday special. The happy hour deal was $5 doubles, $2 PBR cans and free popcorn! The Monday special half-off combo No.5 which was 3 sliders of your choice and tater tots for $9.75. SUCH A STEAL. The 3 sliders we picked were Creamy Garlic Fried Chicken, Harlem Chopped Cheese Steak & Southern Honey Fried Chicken. We also got the Supreme Tots as well. I went with my sister and we were super full with everything we got. Out of the sliders, my favourite was the Southern Honey Fried Chicken it is truly so so so delicious. I recommend you get this one when you visit! Our server was super quick, generous, and took care of us very well! The bathroom was also clean and it is located downstairs. I will be back to pennies and will be bringing more of my friends!

6 Slider combo & Cali Valley Tots

I would say that this place is worth the hype! The food was very good and reasonably priced and VERY filling! We had the 6 slider combo and the cali valley tots and we could've just done the combo as it was a lot of food! It was fun getting to try a bunch of different sliders and the buns were next level. The restaurant has a retro feel and offers free popcorn while you wait. They have lots of happy hour and late night deals as well.

Some tater tots I don't remember

Even though I came here in the midst of a break up and no appetite from being sick, I still could appreciate that the food was good. And how could it not be worth it for that price!

Cheap drinks & great hang out spot! Was here on a Thursday night to catch up with some friends. As a first timer here I was so impressed with their menu items! All I can say is, cheap drinks and cheap food! Patio is still open in September and has lots of seating outside. The spot is adorable with the exterior building and tables all in yellow! It's hard to flag down any wait staff here, but you really can't complain with the price you get here. Cocktails are $7 for a single and $10 for a double - so affordable! I found myself loading up on the basil smash all night, tasted delicious and refreshing! An extensive list of sliders to choose from. They're small, but a great price at $5.50 per slider that pairs even better with their tater tots there. Get the El Paso Melt slider and baja fish taco - it was amazing and adorably sized. Poutine tater tots were also great, I mean, who doesn't like cheese curds and gravy? Popcorn is free and self served inside the bar. As the night went on, you can find lots of people lining up to enter the patio. It's a great local spot for some cheap drinks, catch up chats and cheap eats! Can't wait to come back!

THIS IS HOME! I can't believe that I've lived in Toronto, walking distance from here for 5 years and it took me this long to stop by. Lets say that since I have (because my review is coming so late) that I have brought so many more friends here. 1) the service is always amazing 2) you get your bang for your buck - every slider I have had, I literally cannot complain about 3) free popcorn 4) look at their daily specials -- MONDAY is now my favourite day to go.

Very inexpensive beer. Pennies open very late. They have lots of seats on the patio and inside. Service was pretty good. We ordered couple pitcher of beers. I have noticed the beer is somewhat watered down but I like it that way because it is less hoppy tasting. They do not serve food after certain time. We showed up at around 10:30 pm and we were told no food. So we only got drinks. They serve their own beer.

Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Hard to miss though as the exterior is made up a punk rock style sculpture of rusted bikes & other assorted ephemera. The interior is similar, visually. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Are the beer cans running out? It's possible. But, it's a dive in the way of the old dives. And the acoustics for bands are... not great. But they are a sign of what once was. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. This man is a treasure--a multitalented musician who plays in many bands including The Lemon Bucket Orkestra. In season, you can catch Michael playing trumpet and singing with a jazz band on the back patio on Saturday evenings (5-8pm). The patio, accessible via an alleyway off Rolyat Street, feels like one of this neighbourhood's best kept secrets. Such a fun, chill vibe back there. Perhaps these Saturday shows will eventually move back inside, where they were held in the beforetimes, when the band sat cheek by jowl with customers in one of the city's most "intimate" performance venues. But whether Michael is performing behind the bar or on the back patio, the man is a marvel of multitasking. He'll perform part of a tune, set the trumpet down as the band plays on, take people's orders, prepare and serve drinks, and then pick up the trumpet and continue the song. So freaking cool. He also hosts a unique music listening event on Monday nights called Decide on the B-Side...don't forget to bring your favourite vinyl. As for the drinks, nothing fancy here, just a decent beer list and hard booze, mostly. But as described above, this bar is so much more. It's chock full of fun and character.
