The lease signing went smoothly even though Pat was unavailable due to a personal issue and had John finish the process with us. The only hitch was a miscommunication about the application fee which we thought was waived, but Pat rectified the issue by only having us pay half the fee.

But unfortunately, there was just an absolute lack of professional follow through. I think it'd be great if brokers (Ula's and otherwise) would recognize that they are being paid for a service, and would actually work to earn my business. Instead, so often they just want to convince you a crappy apartment is gold, and sign on the dotted line. Oh, and honestly to Lesley. Nastily responding to someone else's post and giving yourself 5 stars undercuts your own professionalism, and only reinforces the previous bad reviews.

Like that right there feels weird!! The broker also mentioned not to call my bank to get my money back either.. It was mentioned, If i qualify it will be used as a down payment towards the fees.. but still. I personally wasn't comfortable with giving $1k for an "application". Like i have never heard of this.. especially this day in age. if it looks like a scam, feels like a scam... ITS A SCAM!

After moving out over 6 months ago, we still haven't received our security deposit. She claims to have mailed it but refuses to send tracking numbers or zelle/venmo instead. We are out thousands of dollars now because of her and won't get it back until it's resolved in court. Search Katarina and Marek on reddit to read even worse experiences. This city is expensive enough, don't make your life harder by working with them.

Fortunately, we had dated photos of the apartment showing it was in the same shape as when we moved in a few years prior, and we were able to get most of our deposit back after a lot of back and forth. If you're a tenant in one of their buildings, I highly recommend documenting the condition of the apartment when you move in (missing screens in windows, small chips or scrapes, etc.). Otherwise, they will make every effort to keep your security deposit.
