We have been buying our Christmas trees from this place for 4 years now. This year, we decided to buy our tree on opening day instead of the day after Thanksgiving, hoping for a nicer selection. We paid for our tree and picked it up exactly one week later and we are so disappointed and upset. The tree we purchased looked so much fuller and nicer than the one we ended up taking home. Even after paying $170, we were shocked at how different the tree looked compared to when we selected it. See photos for reference. We live in OC and love the "live" Christmas Tree Farm concept & supporting small businesses, but wish there were other options around to buy from. For the last few years my family & I have come here, the prices have become more outrageous, most trees are already sold (even on opening day), when we've received our trees via delivery the tree seems different from what we had chosen, and the ladies who work at the check-out are awful "Karen" bitchy types with bad attitudes - they're just rude, not friendly. My family has been getting fresh trees here for years- we don't go right when it opens on opening day but we get there early enough to reserve/buy one that we like. We got there around 10 am on opening day and there were plenty of 6-7 ft trees to choose from, but the longer you wait, the less of a selection there is. Walking through the farm smells so nice, and it really is a tradition that starts the Christmas holidays off for my family. They have a parking lot, just be aware that the lot isn't paved. There is a sign that says no pictures, but I noticed a lot of family came in wearing holidays pajamas or festive holiday wear. When you're ready to pick up your tree you can hand one of the cutters the receipt and they'll cut and tie it to your car for you for free (gratuities welcomed). Peltzer Pines is a Christmas tree farm about 20 minutes from Irvine. We came on opening day - November 18th - to choose our tree. It's a popular farm and there were a lot of people here in the morning. It was our first time so it was a lot of fun walking the farm with our dog and finding our tree. They sell two different varieties. The lowest price we saw was $39 for a 3-4 foot tree. The trees are individually priced based on height, fullness and imperfections. Since our tree's going in a corner, we focused on finding one that had one "good side" rather than being uniform all around. I'd highly recommend coming on opening day to choose your tree. You can cut it and take it home that day but we chose to pay for our tree and come back on December 1st to take it home. They cut the tree for you and tie it to your car securely. Remember to bring a tip for your tree cutter. read more

Being a long time customer of Peltzer Pines, I was so disappointed at what happened yesterday and how I was treated. Our tradition first started when my husband surprised me by taking me to the Brea location to pick out a tree to celebrate our first Christmas together. Every year after, we've been back to carry on the tradition, now bringing our daughter to Silverado (since Brea has been closed). We went opening day to pick out our tree and went back this past Sunday to pick it up, hoping to decorate it when we got home. That's when our nightmare started. We first noticed a small MOUSE in the bed of our truck. I didn't think much of it because I understand that we're picking up these trees from a farm. Come to find that as we were watering the tree down, we found another and then, as we kept searching, more and more kept popping up! Six mice and 3 hours later, we gave up and decided to leave the tree outside, as I was not comfortable bring the tree into the house. I called the next day and spoke with Beth and let me just say, this is my last time every going to Peltzer Pines. She and her team did offer to clean the tree out for me. However, I live an hour away from the farm and when I told her I would need to take time off work to bring the tree back, her response was "It sure doesn't seem like you were working today" (I work from home and at the same time, I don't think I need to explain my work schedule to anyone other than my boss). I expressed to her that if I drove back out there, I would be happy to return the tree in exchange for any other tree, just not this one since I'm a bit traumatized from my experience. That wasn't an option. A credit for a tree next year also wasn't an option. SIX MICE later (I also don't even know if there's more since we just gave up), I'm not sure who's comfortable bringing a tree into their home that has had that many mice living in there and the droppings that may still be in the tree. She made me feel like I was lying to her. She kept telling me that she hasn't had this same issue this year and that she couldn't believe that the mice were still in there through the tree cutting, transportation, etc. TRUST ME, I'M WONDERING THE SAME THING and that's why I don't feel comfortable with the tree in my house. My experience contradicts the positive reviews I've read about the manager on Yelp. It's been an utterly disappointing experience, especially for a business centered around spreading joy during the holiday season. I will not be back and I will be telling my family and friends about my negative experience - not just with the tree, but with her as well. read more

I have gone to Peltzer Pines Christmas Tree Farm annually for over 30 years. The farm is located at the edge of the of Cleveland National Forest. Hundreds of fresh growing Pine trees of all sizes and seemingly perfect shapes. It's such a refreshing and exciting experience for families, friends, and couples to roam through the rows of that Xmas " pine tree" aroma! I've never been disappointed and every year we purchase the perfect Xmas tree! The farm opens on Saturday before Thanksgiving and closes just before Christmas. My family and hundreds of others enjoy getting up early that Saturday to wait in line anxiously anticipating a mad dash into the forest of trees! The ambience sets the tone for the holiday season. I suggest getting a bag to ensure easy removal although these trees are so fresh that a mess of needles is not a problem. Your perfect tree will be cut the day of purchase or delivered to your door by a team of congenial fellows who cut the end off when arrive and help situate it into your stand! Christmas tree place where you get to stroll through aisles of trees (Monterey pine mostly), pick your tree, and get one home. There is no xmas magic though (no music, no hot cocoa, no decorations). It's literally a place where you come pick your tree, but don't expect any xmas activities for kids. Our 6 foot tree cost us around $80. Prices vary between trees as size, shape, and color differ. Make sure you bring cash or check as they do not take credit cards! There's an ATM onsite but it was down when we were there... We showed up on black friday and it was not insanely crowded. It's well organized as you arrive and you park. Then you walk 100 feet or so to the lots of trees and here is where the fun starts. Once you pick your tree, grab a tag found on the tree directly (will be red if already sold), go back to the parking lot where you can pay, hope back onto your car, and head to cut/pick your tree with staff who will do that for you. Plenty of staff on site to help and guide you. They do tie the tree onto your car for you. We brought a stroller and managed to go to some aisles. Though maybe easier with a carrier. read more

Some of you may have read Tiffany T's review below and her experiences with mice in her tree. Perhaps you dismissed it as simply the review of someone who is disgruntled for some reason and wrote the review due to that. Well, just so you know this can happen. We had a similar experience in 2022. Except it was WORSE. Way worse. Seriously. I'm not going to share the details. (1) Because you literally won't believe me. (2) You would undoubtedly accuse me of trying to sabotage Peltzer Pines or some such. Which I am not. This experience with our tree was so surreal that if my wife hadn't seen it, I would be asking myself if I just hallucinated the whole thing. It was that bad. We had this "experience" when I was sawing a fresh cut on the bottom of the stump prior to placing in the tree stand. Once this happened there was NO way that beautiful tree was coming inside of our house. I took it out and dumped it on our front patio at the far edge away from the house so I could dispose of it later. Then, since it was Christmas Eve and evening by now, we googled and called around to find any tree lot that was still open. Fortunately we did find one and were still able to have a (thoroughly inspected) tree for the holiday. Just had to buy a second tree. Peltzer Pines does as I recall advise everyone that their trees are growing in a natural environment and hitchhikers are indeed possible. Undoubtedly one reason they advise you to wash the tree off before bringing it in. Which I had done. As well as pulling out all the clumps of dead needles from the inside of the tree by hand first. What blew our minds is that what we encountered managed to stay in the tree throughout all that. It wasn't until I used a reciprocating saw to cut the stump and vibrated the heck out of it that we confronted the issue. I will never clean out a Christmas tree without wearing gloves again. And before you just assume I'm some sort of whimp, sorry I've been a volunteer first responder for the last twenty years and have been putting myself in harms way for the benefit of our community on a pretty regular basis for all that time. I am not easily scared or creeped out. This case was truly an exception. I never did call Peltzer Pines and tell them this story because I assumed I'd get the same skeptical reaction that Tiffany received and they would just refuse to believe me. It seems from her story that's exactly what would have happened. My advice to you based on our experience just to be safe: (1) WEAR GLOVES if you clean your tree out by hand. (2) Definitely wash it off very thoroughly in particular on the inside. (3) At some point some big, strong member of your household should take the tree, and holding it upright, SLAM the stump bottom down onto a hard surface like your driveway several times. HARD! If nothing falls out from that, you're probably okay. Oh and as far as the whole purchasing experience goes: Opening day sucks with people running around tearing tags off trees with no intention of buying them. Peltzer claims they cannot do anything about this. I disagree. For example they could expel from the property anyone they observe doing it. Hire some security and put an end to the behavior. Your loyal patrons deserve better than to have to deal with such disrespectful jerks. read more

Yay!!!! This is the first year I got a tree! Last year we went the day after Thanksgiving, thinking we were ahead of the game. Haha ya right!! Most of the good trees were already sold. This year I went opening day just 30 minutes after open and they were already packed!!! So thankful I found a nice tree. This will be a family tradition every year. So fun to take the kids and let them run around and help pick out a tree. They carry two varieties. One reminds me of a noble fur and the other almost like a traditional tree but a bit different. Both are beautiful. They have more of the noble fur type so if you like the other style, go early. They are cash or check only but do have an atm on site. Pleasant staff and they do have a good pop up and portable bathrooms. read more

A very unique experience in Orange County! It is really out of the way, deep in Silverado Canyon. The farm was a bit smaller then I was expecting. However, the setting is beautiful and you can get some great pics. I didn't buy a tree because they are expensive. The farm could use a gift shop, some sort of activity station and place where you could buy cookies, hot chocolate etc. It would help make this more of a destination and more interesting holiday activity. read more

This year we were disappointed to find that prices had risen this year, but it was still justifiable for experience and freshened of our tree. It is harder and harder to find a fresh tree location. They seem to be on a four year rotation here and I do hope it continues. My review would have been higher if our tree had lasted longer. Last year we picked up our tree and took it straight home and it lasted for nearly 7 weeks and looked great. This year however it never soaked up the water or food and began to die and dry out so quickly. It barely made it to Christmas after picking it up just after Thanksgiving. With cost rising and the fact that the tree barely lasted this year, not sure if we will be back. Get in as early as possible to get the best looking trees. read more

We were displaced before Christmas due to a fire, I called to ask what could be done about maybe giving the tree away or something and was treated as if I was trying to swindle this company out of $100. This year we arrived 20 minutes after opening and it's a zoo. People sprint to the trees remove the tags from 20 to 30 pick their single tree and discard the rest. We have been going to this location for the last four years. It is a great family experience and we enjoy buying local and supporting our local businesses. This year however; they cut down the wrong tree. We drove home, realized they had given us the wrong tree and drove back. Dan, I guess who was the owner, was very rude to my wife about their mistake. We have always had great experiences at this location until today. The tree quality seemed poor this year also. It's a fun place to take your family and make a fun family tradition but today they lost a customer because of the way they handled this situation.
