After a year of solar experience I wanted to update my review. First, I've had occasion to call on Pell Solar for help resolving a minor issue in the year since installation and I'm happy to report they continue to answer my calls promptly and resolved my issue - which required a visit to my home - within a couple of hours. Also, I would advise anyone looking into solar to be sure not to over-size your system too much. I wanted mine over-sized a bit because we were previously trying to conserve so much we were uncomfortable; also I have three kids who are increasingly using electronics and I wanted to account for their continued and increasing use. I ended up with an overage at the end of the year and got a credit/check from my utility, but it was for a fraction (about 10%) of the amount shown on my statement. Reason: They give you full credit (full price) for overages throughout the year which can be applied to offset higher usage months. But if you end up with a credit balance at the end of the year, they only 'cash out' the overage for a small fraction of the regular cost of electricity. You come out the best when you get as close to 100% usage of the energy generated, you will not generate income from any overage. (My experience with my utility.) I live in San Francisco and was visiting my sister who lives in Colton (Reche Canyon). She asked me to stay home and provide access on May 25, 2016 for Pell Solar to install her system because she was at work. They arrived earlier than expected in 2 large trucks and several men to do the install. These men were so polite and hard working, it was such a pleasure to watch them as they worked very hard all day. Four hours after they arrived, two Manager's from Pell Solar arrived to make sure the job was going well and that they would be finishing the install that day. Once their on-site foreman confirmed the job was on track, they left. Sure enough, they were finishing up the job when my sister arrived home around 5:00 PM. The Foreman reconfirmed with her what the next steps involved (city / county and Edison) approval and time frames. He responded to her questions and gave her contact info should she have any questions. She called me yesterday, exactly two weeks from the install date to tell me that everything had been approved and that she could flip the switch on that day. HOW GREAT WAS THAT ?? From beginning to end, they did exactly what they said they would do and then went above and beyond to ensure everything went smoothly. I am writing this review because Pell Solar deserves praise for the job. Also, to reflect on a friend of mine who lives in Palm Springs and purchased a solar system from Vivant Solar. His install was in December 2015 and still to this day (June 9) his solar is not working. Solar tax credits and the way that you're billed for electricity can be very confusing, Pell solar took out all of the confusing red tape and mumbo jumbo and helped me figure out what I needed to wipe out my electric bill. Since I installed solar over a year ago I have not owed any money to Edison, that's exactly where I wanted to be. We could not be more satisfied with Pell Solar and here's why... After a lot of homework and ten consultations (eight face to face and two phone consultations) with well known solar companies, we found Pell professional, respectful, amiable, genuine, reasonable and very knowledgeable. Pell gave us an accurate picture of what to expect as well as an accurate estimation of timelines-including potential variables that are always going to be beyond any company's control (cities and power companies permits). Pell's contract is not some complicated maze of unclear gibberish that would require expert decoding by attorneys. The installation crew was timely, well mannered, clean, well skilled and did everything we were told they would do. I waited to write this review to make sure that it was not going to come from my giddy mood as I have been ecstatic ever since we were given the all-clear to operate. We've had our system online for two weeks now, are in the middle of winter, have had several cloudy days yet my electric bill has dropped 90% so come spring, summer and fall, we are going to be even more thrilled. Pell educated us on the importance of not over building a system that would be rejected by the utility company and create unnecessary delays. I haven't specifically named anyone in this review but I count at least 13 people that I either met, emailed, spoke to on the phone or had them work at my house and didn't have any bad encounters with anyone... Oh what the heck, Shaun, Dirk, Jim and Daniel are definitely worth mentioning as well as Victoria and Lisa in the office but the whole group of them have just been great. I very highly recommend Pell Solar! I also recommend switching to solar soon since the utility companies are trying to take away some of the advantages of home generation systems. We moved to Silver Lakes (Helendale, CA.) in October. I retired from PG&E in Red Bluff, CA. One of my duties at PG&E and at Seattle City Light over the past 10 years was to inspect solar installations for compliance with our utility standards. After interviewing 5 big name solar companies, I was still not convinced on the equipment, payment and how solar really worked. I initially began with zero knowledge and after interviewing these 5 companies I thought I knew enough to get by but something was still holding me back. I called Pell and it was the owner on the other end of the line! ( what Solar company has the owner immediately picking up the phone?) He and I were talking about possible reasons as to why my production was down. We went through a few troubleshooting possibilities. He and another specialist were discussing the issue between themselves while I was on the phone and they came up with a possible reason. A faulty circuit breaker! If you are considering installing solar in your home, purchasing a system that is to small and probably the cheapest, will not meet your energy requirement needs. You also should not buy one that is to big and expensive. I believe Pell solar sold us a system that meets our requirements. Our electric bill for the last 3 months from Edison has been less then $1.00 per month. We invited 5 solar sales people that we spoke with at the Victorville home show. After the first 4 meetings we were still confused and not sure what to do. Al De La Cruz did an excellent job explaining how the solar system works, How and where the panels would be installed on our house, the difference between buying and leasing. We purchased, with a very low interest rate, a tax rebate, paying it off in 12 years, and the payment equals what our winter rate was from Edison. I had to make numerous phone calls to find out the status and after 51 days of nothing happening but excuses I had no choice but to fire them. After many years of procrastinating we finally decided to get serious about looking into solar. Aaron was great to work with. He gave us all the information we asked for, and after he made his proposal he followed up with us but did not push. We were happy with Pell's proposal, but asked another contractor for a proposal to compare "just in case". Phillip Hahn was our sales representative and I have to say he was the best of the bunch that came out to talk to us. Literally, we probably had 15-20 companies come out and give us their sales pitch and quotes, and Pell came in extremely competitive and with the system & extras we requested. Phillip came out to our house several times just to ensure we had all our questions answered completely and thoroughly. And even AFTER our system has been installed for a few months, he still calls monthly to make sure everything is working as designed and planned. He's just that kind of person.
