I was in the mood for Italian ice, and since I had my 8 year old god daughter with me, I thought it was the perfect time to stop. I had not actually been here before and now I'm so glad that I went. The service was quick, and the flavor that I got (I can't remember the name) was super tasty. I'll definitely be back!

My family has become huge fans of shaved ice. It's like no other cold treat in the area, so no comparison. With only two locations in the area, Norfolk and Virginia Beach it gets crazy busy in warm weather. The other location on Lynnhaven in VB is undergoing repairs and is closed. So this was my first time at the Norfolk spot. Not so impressed with the sketchy area, or the fact it say VB Blvd and it's somewhat just off, so pay attention. It is on the Southside of the road. The parking lot is tiny, but all was good today since they just opened for the season and a chill was in the air. The lot was littered with napkins from their business and other minor debris. There are two drive thru lanes which is great! This is as unusual as you will find. Our family just walked up to the window, no wait. Oh yes there was the wait of my daughter contemplating 100 different flavors. Pelican had really wacky out there flavors and your allowed to mix two at same price. Two sizes of regular and large. Recommend the regular as plenty. Three regular ices were $8+ without tip. The young woman at the window was very sweet and offered suggestions. The three ices came out quickly and were correct. There was only one other employee working that I saw. There are a few tables on the side to set down which we did. It was a windy day, so I can get the debris in the lot. But this still should be policed. It says something about their clientele when you can't pick up after yourself. Okay last but not least. All three tasted awesome! Shaved ice is very unique and maybe it's worth the price. I can tell you crowds and crowds wait in lines over 45 min in the hot sun for it. Me, I really like it but I'm not waiting long. Also I'm not coming often its too expensive. I do recommend checking either location out for a unique coo treat.

This place should be all stars for their idea alone. I love how there are so many topping options. I've been back again since the first time I checked in. I love the sour spray and condensed milk options. They were delicious. The price is perfect for what you get. The kiddie one is so big for the price! I really love this place. A quick and perfect go to for snocones. If you have a pip get the "pup cup!". It's only a dollar for your dog, and it's huge!

    Adorably decorated spot!

This place was perfect for an after work treat before sitting in traffic all the Hampton yesterday. The service was quick, but I can only imagine how in the summer it could potentially turn really slow when everyone is headed to the beach. I got the Tigers Blood and Polar Punch and was incredibly Please to not have my mouth turn a funky color! Definitely bring your family out to one of these places! It was awesome!

Imagine cold cotton candy dissolving in your mouth. That's what shaved ice feels like, it's nothing like snow cones. Add some condensed milk to make it creamer and sweeter. I actually had red raspberry with condensed milk on one side and cream on the other, DELICOUS. There are 100 flavors to choose from. Sugar free is also available (splenda). Pelican's is a franchise and Yordan Guzman sold his first of, I'm certain, many SnoBall's today. He was hanging the last of many signs with a smile ear to ear. He also put out corn hole, hula hoops and other games to keep his customers happy. David LeBlanc, manager of 8 franchises in eastern Virginia was happy to share some of the history of Pelican's. He says many of the owners worked as ice shavers as young'uns. By the end of this year they expect to have more than 100 Pelican's open. This location has a nice grassy area for kids and those that are a kid at heart to play. There are also many tables with umbrellas to sit and enjoy your treat. If you are in a hurry and want it "to-go" you can enjoy the drive-thru. I have a lot of hope for Yordan. This is a great spot for families to enjoy each other without breaking the bank. I also see sports teams coming here after their games. And dessert after any meal.

This picture doesnt even do it justice!

The best snow cone I've ever had. It was literally like eating flavored snow. The staff was very polite. They even had someone checking the grounds and keeping it clean. I will be back very soon!

This place brings me back to my childhood, except better! Pelican's have very many flavors, so you can mix and match but anything over 2 flavors is 50 cents per flavor. There snocones are amazing, the ice is soft & fluffy, the portions are big, and the price is small! I highly recommend trying this place if you love snocones and just can't find anyone to make them for you. If you want to grab some & take it to go, they also offer lids on the cups for to-go orders. Definitely a must try! **Update** I went there again today & one of the guys told me that they only give military discounts if you're in uniform & an ID doesn't count. First and foremost, why would I come right after work & go out of my way while in uniform to get a snocone? Secondly, you have to ask for your snocone to be considered "to-go" even if you're ordering through the drive thru. I really felt that was unnecessary.

I have Been to this place everyday for the last two weeks. I love it the flavors are bomb there is never a long line. The people are friendly. The only thing I wish they had instead of the Thursday keychains would be pinch cards, like with the tenth snoball it is free. But other than that everything is great.

    Butterfly kiss

I love snoballs. I got the Butterfly kiss but they were out of the butterfly gummies. It was good besides the lack of syrup once I got through the first bite.

I opted for the kiddie size snowball which was a good portion. It includes 2 flavors, but I chose add-ons - whip cream and tajin and added vanilla ice cream at additional cost. I'm glad he informed me that due to the kiddie size, adding ice cream would increase the height and most likely have the snoball spill over. He offered to place the ice cream on the side to avoid spillage which I greatly appreciated. They have a large variety of flavors and the reason for the 3.5 stars was due to the taste. I had the passion fruit and tiger's blood. I think the tiger's blood is a sugar free flavor with splenda, so that may have been the reason why I wasn't loving it. I did finish the entire thing though. Haha.. I've just had better tasting at other local businesses. It's located in Primrose shopping center near the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. There's plenty of parking available and they have 3 vibrantly colored tables for seating. I'm sure their presence brings a lively, fun vibe to the shopping center that's in dire need of an update.

Things that I love about Penguin's Snowball is that it is a locally owned establishment to grab a fun summer time treat and it is in a great location. Also, if memory serves me correctly it is owned by a veteran. I come here several times throughout the summer months and I love the different options, my favorite being the Piccadilly. Today I watched as the young lady, who appeared to be working alone, made snowballs with one glove on her right hand and no glove on her left hand. I stood and watched as she made two snowballs and then realized that she needed more snow. She adds more snow to both cups and proceeds to push the snow with both the gloved and ungloved hand. I stopped by Susan's Kitchenette because I was in the area and wanted some lumpia. When I walked in…read morethere was only one person ahead of me. They didn't have a menu posted, so I was given one when I asked. The food is cafeteria style where your plate is made in front of you. They had several options like fish, pork belly, menudo, lumpia, pancit, rice, sisig, and etc. They also had desserts, chips, turon, and drinks. I chose menudo, pancit, pork belly, and lumpia with a side of sauce for about $15. The prices seemed pretty reasonable. The portions were decent also. The menudo was flavorful and filling the meat was tender but there were a few pieces with fat. The pancit was tasty. It wasn't heavy on vegetables, I wish there were more. The pork belly was crispy and I liked it, but a few pieces were over cooked and had an awkward burnt old flavor. I can't really explain it. But the taste caught me off guard. I enjoyed the lumpia. They had beef inside and went good with the sauce. Their sweet chili sauce is yellow, not like most that are orangeish red. But it was good. The staff was busy. They didn't really talk much, but were nice. They also have a banquet room for private events. I do like their Filipino food more than some other places in the area. Definitely check them out!!
