Hands down worst service in all of Birmingham area! Years ago we loved going to Pelham diner but since new owners service went downhill quick. Once we waited an hour to be seated to be told food was taking an hour to come out. Really? Why not tell us that while we were waiting for an hour. Today was willing to try again and let down yet again. The person taking names never even acknowledged us for about 15 minutes completely ignoring all those coming in. Sadly this is the only diner in town. We need a diner that has good or even mediocre service which would be more than Pelham diner can do. read more

Went on a Saturday morning around 8:30. It was pretty packed, but we were seated and greeted very quickly. The atmosphere feels like a family restaurant. The owner cleans tables & shakes hands. Very lovely place. The service is hands down the best. Everyone, I mean everyone was so nice and timely. Our waitress was super sweet. But Jenny saw that my husband got the Patriot plate and challenged him to finish it. The pancake was bigger than his head. He easily finished it because it was so good. He was the 42nd person to finish his Patriot Plate. I got the Breakfast Plate w/ 2 scrambled eggs, toast, sausage links, & grits. It was a very good plate, general breakfast food. Generous portions. Oh, great place to eat. Good food, good service. Some of the food can be a bit greasy but that's what makes it taste so good.

I was craving pancakes and sausage on a rainy morning while the remnants of Hurricane Irma were rolling in. A quick check of my handy dandy Yelp! app pulled up this place for breakfast. There isn't great signage, and my map app didn't have it in the right spot, but I found it eventually. It's been a long time since I've had pancakes, so I ordered a double stack. They came with sausage, and I ordered an extra side of sausage patties. In retrospect, I should have asked how big the pancakes were before ordering, because wow, they were the size of a 10" pan. I only make it through 3/4 of the double stack before calling it quits. A normal human being only needs to order one of these. I saw a triple stack on the menu, and I can't imagine who could eat all that. The pancakes were light and fluffy and met my pancake needs. Sausage and coffee were okay. Over all, I think it was good breakfast for a rainy day. read more

Everyone here was so incredibly friendly, I loved it!The food was good but the service is what left more of an impression on me. We went in for breakfast and it was quite busy, so things moved slower than expected but we were given updates on the status of our food, which was nice. Since we were first time guests there, we were given complimentary cinnamon rolls, and gosh they were aaamazing! Waited with 2 young kids for 45 minutes to be seated (it was a pretty busy morning). We finally got seated and our server was really great. Ordered food and about 1 hour later it came out. Biscuits were raw on every plate. I stole the bacon off the plate because we were starving and it went back for a recook. The recook took 45 minutes. Came out raw again. Asked for another recook and waited about 5 minutes then we all got hangry and walked out. Stopped at DQ and got some burgers otw home because it was lunchtime by the time we left that place. We don't be back. Until they learn how to cook biscuits. Ambiance is nice. It was super hot in there tho. Everyone was sweaty. read more

Great food and great service! The prices are reasonable especially with the amount of food you get. We love this restaurant for breakfast AND lunch. They serve a meat and three hot table at lunchtime. There's a daily menu but everything we've tried has been good. I recommend the mac and cheese and the squash casserole. read more

What a gem! Husband I were traveling through, staying at a local RV Park. Decided to have breakfast before hitting the road and chose Pelham Diner. Both agree that it was the best breakfast we've ever had. Everything on point, service, food and cost. Very affordable and abundant amount of food, we actually took biscuits and bacon with us to have as lunch on the road. We will be back on our next trip through. Anxious to try lunch next time! This is a little gem of a place. Good southern Food, been there a few times over the years, but stopped in for the lunch. It was cafeteria style, man do I miss that! Got the hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and some black berry cobbler. It was a win. Food was so good, service was warm and prompt. Excellent service and good! This is what yelp is about. Being in an area of town I'm not usually visiting I decided I had a little time to get breakfast. Searched yelp and ran into this gem. We were seated promptly and greeted with a smiled. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly and forewarned is ticket times were running at about 29 minutes but it would be worth it. She was right!! Everything we had excellent. I highly recommend the pancakes, but you can't go wrong with much of anything. I look forward to trying their lunch menu soon. read more

I truly do not like leaving negative reviews. I believe in building up...not tearing down. That said; the homemade cinnamon rolls are GREAT! However; the service was horrible. Granted; we arrived at 10am and hey were busy BUT...we waited 1hr and 10mins for our food. We watched people come in after us eat and leave. Finally I spoke with someone and it still took 15mins to get it out to us. Our waitress never apologized. Someone else took over and she was the only one who acknowledged the issue. On top of that; the food was more cafeteria style. Left a lot to be desired. I'm surprised this place has the ratings it does. Overall; quality of food was lacking and overdone. My husband and I have been wanting Pelham Diner for MONTHS now, and we finally got the chance to go today. Super exciting right? Nope. We arrive, with two parties of two waiting outside, a couple open tables inside, and 1 hour left before lunch time. The employee at the entrance straight up turned us away. She claimed that they are not taking anymore customers as she is "cutting off breakfast customers" even though they clearly state that breakfast is served until 11:00. Also, who's to say that we wouldn't have wanted to wait for lunch? She didn't even offer, and she basically shooed us away. I will honestly never even attempt to eat at Pelham Diner again. read more

Best breakfast ever! Stopped here for breakfast. Had great reviews online so I wanted to try it all. I ordered two eggs over medium with hash browns and ham with a side of biscuits and gravy. I also ordered a pancake just to try it. How is it even possible that everything was perfect? The first thing I sampled was the pancake. The presentation was amazing, a thick pancake larger than the plate, perfectly cooked. The outside was slightly crisp, golden brown, and delicious with a light salty taste. Then I tried the hash browns. Oh wow, Nice brown crunch on the outside! Eggs cooked to perfection. My ham steak was thick and juicy! I loved this breakfast and cannot recall when I had better! I felt like staying to try the lunch! My only suggestion would be to reduce the clutter around the bar and spruce up the place a bit. Again, amazing food! read more

I really wanted to like this place because the staff is friendly but WOW THE FOOD IS HORRENDOUSLY BAD. I took one bite of the hash brown, egg, and sausage and was done. The eggs were extremely greasy as if they didn't clean the grill in between each order. The sausage was cold like it was frozen cold, and the hash browns were hard as a rock but also saturated in grease I don't even know how you achieve that combination. Twe also ordered an omelette and it tasted the way the bathroom smelled. It was all around gross and I do NOT RECOMMEND here. I can't tell you enough how terrible the food was. Can't stop coming here for breakfast! Any other meal would be way too dangerous to try... I would just have to start working here at that point. I love when friends and family visit from out of town so we can take them here because they give free cinnamon rolls to first time visitors! And these are not your average cinnamon rolls. These are homemade, crunchy, brown sugary, cinnamon rolls- sweet tooth required, but if your visitor doesn't have one, they can give it to you ;) My husband and I split the kitchen sink- everything you want in a breakfast chopped up and mixed together in a giant mountain on a plate.
