I was planning to propose to my girlfriend and went to Napa to find the perfect venue. After visiting several places, I discovered Peju, which had a beautiful interior and knowledgeable wine staff who were initially very helpful. I spoke with a wine representative about my plans for the following week, and he was incredibly nice and suggested I call Peju directly to make arrangements. After multiple phone calls on Tuesday and Wednesday, plus an in-person meeting, I made an online reservation and paid approximately $260. However, when I arrived on Saturday (10 minutes early), our reserved table was occupied. When I spoke with the front desk staff, I was suddenly told that in order to reserve that space, I needed to be a member - this was never mentioned during our previous extensive conversations. Wanting to salvage the moment, I decided to become a member on the spot. That's when things took a turn for the worse. The manager, Nicola, was extremely rude and unprofessional. Rather than helping resolve the situation, she became hostile and even threatened to call the police if I didn't leave immediately. I had no choice but to leave, completely devastated. While Peju may be a beautiful venue, their poor communication, last-minute policy changes, and unprofessional management completely ruined what was supposed to be one of the most special days of my life. I cannot recommend this place for important events - they will fail you when it matters most. read more

I decided to book a trip to Napa with my best friend. It was absolutely amazing, we booked two wine tasting venues and both were equally wonderful. This place was easy to find and a straight drive from Sacramento. We were running late to our tasting appointment and they completely accommodated us when we arrived. I personally love white wine but the red ones were pretty tasty just hope they had food to pair it with. Other than that the service was good and the atmosphere was beautiful. They have a patio available outside but we sat inside. Maybe next time I make a reservation I'll request to sit outside. The ambience was amazing, it was unmatched. The bites were cool, but the pours here were significantly smaller than the other tastings of I have been too, such as The Silver Trident, Rosenblum, and Handwritten. The staff was really nice, I love reds but Peju has an amazing Chardonnay it is not as buttery, and there Province which is a white and red blend, I loved amazingly good. 2022 review - I really wanted to like this place. The reviews on yelp and other social media were great, so I had high hopes, but unfortunately this place fell flat. When I went, Napa had a limit of 6 per group. I called and asked if there was an off-chance that we could have two groups of four seated in the same area based on availability. I was told that there was no guarantee and that we couldn't be moving between the tables. Totally understood. So, they made two reservations of four for me. Some people in our group weren't participating in the tastings, so I checked to see their policy as their reservation system required you to book everyone who would attend. They told me I just needed to call at least 24 hours in advance and let them know who was participating. No problem. I called on Wednesday to confirm that 6 out of the 8 were going to participate in the wine tastings on Saturday. They reminded us that we weren't guaranteed to get seated near each other as it depends on availability and reaffirmed that we were not to switch tables. I confirmed that I understood this policy. They called on Friday and left a voicemail asking for me to confirm my party of four. They had made no mention of the other group of 4, and my friend didn't receive any confirmation e-mail (as they said we would) for the other 4. I was confused as I confirmed on Wednesday, but went ahead and called them back. I explained my situation since I wasn't aware if I was talking to the same person who helped me book the spots. The person who responded had attitude that I could feel through the phone for no reason--as if they were annoyed for me even explaining how we were two groups of two who had four people each (6 people of which who were wine tasting). The lady cut me off and said "we are VERY aware of your group". Okay? Sorry for trying to explain the situation as to why I was confused they were calling me to confirm again while still not sending a confirmation e-mail to my friend who held the other reservation? When we get to our tasting, half of our group got seated while the other half stood around for another 5-10 minutes. We told them to ask if they could get seated at the next table over that had just left, but they were told no. Despite reserving for OUTDOOR wine tasting, they brought my four other friends indoors. One of my friends who went indoors felt uncomfortable as she was specific with outdoor activities, but we didn't feel like we could switch spots as we wanted to respect their rules. There were plenty of tables outside, so I'm not sure why they felt the need to place my friends insides other than to separate us. What was even more frustrating was that the tables outdoors weren't even 6 feet apart, and they had sat strangers next to us. I would have understood if they kept the spot unused or if the seats were 6 ft away, but how is it safer that we have complete strangers sitting next to us compared to people we came with? We had no trouble sitting in the same area and remaining in our spots for other wineries, so I'm unsure why they went through extra trouble to separate us. Besides that, the experience was definitely sub par. We never got any menus or any direction as to what kind of wine tasting we were going to experience. Someone came to our table, told us the first wine name and left. No description of the wine, the notes we should be tasting, or background story whatsoever. After we finished with the first pour, which was already small compared to other wineries, the person comes back and asks us if we're on (insert wine name here). We tell him that we're unaware of which one we were supposed to be on because we didn't get any menu of some sort. His response? "Oh whoops". We then found out that we would have missed our second pour if this little hiccup wasn't discovered. This service was pretty much consistent throughout the rest of the tasting--the person hardly spent any time describing the wines to us and the pours were minimal. To top it off, the wines weren't great. We usually like to buy at least a bottle of our most favorite wine at tastings but none hit the mark. I saw a few reviews in which people described the wine as similar to grocery stores, and I'd have to agree. I actually ended up giving most of my pours to my other friend as I didn't really enjoy them. For $45, that was hugely disappointing. The grounds are extremely beauty--that was basically the only pro to my experience here. Unless people just wanted to come take pictures here, I would recommend skipping over this place. Unfortunately everything tasted like grocery store wine, even the most popular blend, so I did not go home with anything. I received a phone call from the PRESIDENT of the winery. Turns out he was the person that provided me upsetting service. He wanted to discuss my complaint.   Versus being apologetic, he proceeds to tell me that he has witnesses and that things did not go as I stated in my review.   Somehow his witnesses turned out to be only one witness, and he claims that a lady was next to him and saw everything. She was also the one that told him not to pour any wine for me, and that he chose to listen to her.   I mentioned that I remembered it quite differently. There was not a lady in sight, and it was only my brother-in-law, myself, and the PRESIDENT.  When I asked if I could get a taste of the wine he was pouring my brother-in-law, he ignored me and said to my brother in law - "I don't think she can handle this" and walked away.   As I tried to further explain how I felt on the phone, he interrupted me and said that he only speaks truths.    I responded back that, if he only speaks truths, then he is implying that I am not the truthful one and that I, as the customer am at fault.   Each time I try to speak, he cuts me off and talks over me. He apologized that I FELT like I was treated unwell. Not that I was treated unwell. That I FELT I was treated unwell.   He did not apologize for his behavior, and he did not apologize for ignoring me and treating me like I was a child.   I was at the winery to pick up my quarterly shipment from my Indulge membership. I was excited to share with my brother-in-law how awesome Peju winery was for his first visit. All I asked for was a taste of a dessert wine, and I was ignored, and belittled. Super easy to book a time online. The grounds are so cute! The wines are also good. You get 5-6 pours for the tasting, so overall it is also a great value. Only downside is the ambiance compared to other wineries isn't as good. We sat in the tasting room which wasn't particularly interesting. You have the option to buy food and it all sounded amazing! They aren't pushy when it came to purchasing a bottle which is so nice. We ended up purchasing one anyway though! We will definitely be back. read more

Joseph was amazing - he was very informative about the wines we were tasting, but the way he explained everything was fun and kept my attention. Our visit to Peju Winery was a delight! We arrived for our Classic Seated Tasting and were escorted to the cutest table amongst the barrels. Our server was AWESOME! He was very knowledgeable, giving us the history of the winery and details about each wine while also keeping it fun for my best friend & I on our girls trip. I don't typically like red wines but those included in this tasting weren't all exceptionally dry. We also tried the Chef Sampler which was delicious! Peju is my wife and I's favorite winery in Napa. The staff is friendly and is willing to accommodate some customization in the tastings. Some of the winery's unique blends (Provence and Carnival) are favorites of ours and definitely slot into the addictive "porch sipping" category. The grounds are lovely and the architecture and sycamore trees provide for iconic photo ops. Definitely stop by on your next visit. read more

Peju really knows how to make you feel special! I was surprised with a birthday sign and greeting when I arrived. It was so sweet and thoughtful. Scott is the host with the most!!!!! He really paints a beautiful description of the wines and the experience you will have with the tastes. We were seated in the cellar room with the beautiful stained glass wall. Beautiful environment from the moment we entered the winery. Every bottle he poured we enjoyed! I thoroughly enjoyed Scott's history of all the bottles he shared with our group. Came here to celebrate my friend's 24th birthday, and she booked our tasting reservations online one month prior. Being young-looking (I guess?) felt weird because we kept getting referred to as "girls." We were also treated like we knew absolutely nothing about wine. Apparently it was "nice to see young girls trying good wine." The tasting was lackluster. We sped through it in half an hour but sat around talking a bit longer. We had 45min left in our tasting and we wanted to order chips and dip ($15) after getting a little dizzy, but the sommelier said no because it makes no sense to order food after the wine is gone. ??? Our sommelier, Claudy, was friendly and fun to talk to, although we were confused that she was juggling three groups at a time, running from table to table. She gave us surface-level notes about what foods pair well with the wine, but in the end, we left not knowing much about the wine production nor the winery itself. Put simply, it was unforgettable. Although shoutout to her for an extra pouring. Okay, here's the positives: extra star because the grounds are much more beautiful in person than can be captured on camera. It's small though. You can explore the area in 5 minutes. Also, the first wine on their tasting was delicious. We could drink that "party wine" all day. Too bad we couldn't buy it since it was supposed to be enjoyed cold and we had no wine glasses in the car. You're not allowed to order a bottle and drink it on the grounds due a permit or something like that. They don't have cups to give if you wanted to buy a bottle and drink it elsewhere. Fortunately, V Sattui was a few minutes down the road. Wouldn't recommend this place if you wanted a quality tasting that's worth your buck. read more

Extremely disappointed and disgusted with the way my girlfriend and I were treated here on Saturday, 6/20. For context, my gf and I are in our mid-20's and avid drinkers of wine. I went to college in the North Bay and became very interested in good, quality wine. My family and I have a few memberships, as well as my girlfriend, to keep our wine palate diverse. During one of the few times we can get out together, we decided to stop at Peju before attending a different wine event since we so deeply love their wine. My grandmother has been a member here since 2010 and my family has been enjoying their wines and referring people here for the past 10+ years. We had come in around 4:15pm, holding hands and feeling very enthusiastic about having this time together. We requested a tasting with the tasting room manager, Nick Skinner. He advised us that the "they were completely booked for the day and that he could not fit us in but feel free to buy a bottle to open outside or elsewhere." We understood and opted to buy a bottle to drink somewhere. As a member, I was very familiar with their wines and was looking to purchase a few bottles to take home. While looking at the bottled wines and discussing with my gf, Nick directed our attention to the red blend, Province (cheapest bottle), that was near the front entrance and not where we were looking. Standing within 5 ft of the booking counter, a group of 3 middle aged women came in requesting a tasting *without* a reservation. Nick welcomed them, promptly took their information and said "we are all booked up but it looks like I can squeeze you in." Mind you it's almost time for them to close. Nick then escorts them to the tasting room and I followed them to the tasting room where they were introduced to the employee behind the counter. I did not see them interact with any specific group of people as there were many groups tasting. I watched and heard the entire interaction and could not believe/understand why we were completely shut down upon walking in and not given the same consideration. I confronted Nick about this with confusion and he stated that they were with a group that was already tasting - which the women had never verbalized or stated when they originally asked for a tasting (we were standing within 5 ft during the entire interaction). I told Nick that this felt very homophobic based upon the way he spoke to us, treated us and lied about the situation when we watched the whole thing unfold. Nick was extremely chauvinistic, arrogant and entitled when questioned about the encounter. My gf and I left and will not be returning to Peju. No one should feel so blatantly insulted and unwelcome the way we did at Peju. As an LGBTQ+ woman, I would not and will no longer suggest this winery to friends, family and acquaintances. After my grandmother cancelled her membership and requested an apology letter be sent, I received an "apology" letter from Nick. The letter consisted of no true apology for his behavior or the way it made us feel. Unfortunately, this is nothing new to us or to many LGBTQ+ couples but never did I think that this would happen at a place so dear to my family and where we spend so much time and money. Let's set the record straight, I am very much a beer guy, however, I heard that this Peju place had some world class wines, and was here in Napa! I figured I'd put my pitcher or pint of stout down and pick up a wine glass and see what the buzz is all about. The winery is nestled near the Napa hills in a small little valley. When you drive on the property, a line of trees and a small pond are at the entrance. The winery itself is easy to find. At walking in, you will be greeted and guided over to the tasting area. We were given a few options on what wines to try out, and joined a group halfway and made some new friends. Everyone was so welcoming, and like a pub or a bar, we all had something in common. We had ourselves a grand old time with the employees and wine tasters. I learned so much about wine here, and all the different properties of the different types of wine. We were offered some select wines as well since it was our birthday. Overall; the beer guy approves, the wine and atmosphere is very much approachable. I came here over 10 years ago for my birthday. I told myself after that I would never come again due to the snobby service. Well, my friend had her birthday here so here we are. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very sweet woman who was with us the whole time and was great. The food was great but took a lot of time in between each course. We never made it to dessert by the time we actually got kicked out. Moms that were just chatting and listening to music, drinking wine. We did not make our food take so long yet we were kicked out because we took too long. Our host was great throughout the whole process but another woman that works there told our driver we needed to go. In the end, my experience over 10 years ago clearly matches with how they are now. Had a lovely tasting experience at Peju. We were welcomed with a glass of sparkling rose, then our hostess Cathleen took us to a private seating area which was next to a big window overlooking the garden. One of our party was allergic to red wines and she was able to do a white wine flight instead. Cathleen took us through our wine flights at the most perfect pace. She was very knowledgeable about each of the wines and also the family history of the vineyards. I also love that you can order food/snacks to pair with your tasting. We even got to meet HB and her pups! They came by our table and the dogs were so friendly. I've been a member at Peju for about 20 years. On this trip, we did the chef's tasting on day one, and the reserve tasting on day two. The food and wine selections at both were great, but the time and education provided by Joseph Foss during the reserve tasting was the highlight. The only negative thing to say about any of the experience, is that the Michelin star rated chefs dinner tasting menu at Press just wasn't all that impressive after the exceptional experiences at Peju... Peju has a permanent and forever soft spot in my heart. My now fiancé had proposed to me in the Koi Pond area of Peju with an hour photoshoot in the vineyards. He planned it all out perfectly, and I am forever grateful for everyone that worked at Peju that day to make it all possible. Other than the most perfect proposal, their wines are out of this world. After I had simmered down the high of being engaged, we came back to Peju 2 days after to order a few bottles and ship to our home back on the east coast. My fiancé and I usually prefer reds, but their Sauvignon Blanc was DELISH which we ordered a bottle of. We also fell in love with one of their reserve wines called Fifty Fifty which I believe was 50% Cabernet and 50% Merlot. Absolutely amazing. We ordered 2 bottles of that which we will open only on milestone occasions. The winery itself is absolutely beautiful, and I cannot express how happy I was with this place. My friends and I signed up for the food and wine tasting to celebrate the bride-to-be and this place did not disappoint. Whimsical. Great vibes, wine, and grounds. My first time here, we had the pleasure of having a tasting with the charming and charismatic Claudy. What a gem. After quickly touring the grounds and taking countless photos with the tower and leaning vines lining the driveway, she started us off with the 5-wine tasting in the Peju tower ($45 per person, waived for members and spoiler alert you know I became one quickly duh) and the small bites platter. And let me tell ya, Chef Nic hit it out of the park with the platter, which consisted of 2 servings each of Beef Ribeye Slider, Salmon & Goat Cheese Toast, and a Crepe with herbs from their garden -- $30 for club members, $40 otherwise. It was CHEF'S KISS. Side note, because I know we're all being cautious because of the pandemic, I want to mention that my visit was in June 2021 when all indoor dining restrictions were lifted, however everyone we encountered at Peju was masked-up and made us feel safe throughout the experience. OK back to the regular programming. Claudy was generous not only in her descriptions and stories, but also in her pours. On the tasting menu, we tried the 2020 Saugivnon Blanc, 2020 Rosé of Cab Franc, 2018 Piccolo, 2017 Merlot, and 2018 Cab Sauv. After better understanding our preferences, she curated a few more wines for us to try including the 50/50, 2015 Late Harvest Orange Muscat, and Zinfandel Dessert Wine. Wow, they really have every facet covered. Their whites and rosés were crisp and refreshing, while the reds we tried had a beautiful structure. I wasn't a rosé fan before this, but Peju's new release 2020 Rosé of Cab Franc converted me. Easy to drink; notes of watermelon, strawberries, and grapefruit; but richer than most rosé due to the cab franc. Believe me, Peju knows what they're doing. Although I've been to many wineries in the area (Nickel & Nickel, Mondavi, Opus One, Cakebread Cellars, V Satuii, etc), this was the first wine membership I committed to. And thanks to Claudy and Nicole (who expertly walked us through all the membership options and benefits), it was an easy decision. Happy to walk away with a full belly, full heart, and a few bottles of wine, knowing I'll be back here and hopefully visiting their sister winery Calmére soon too! Peju is a beautiful winery however there is a lot more they can do to improve the tasting experience for visitors. The landscape and architecture is gorgeous. There is a beautiful castle/tower with some fountains and a huge vineyard. The outdoor tastings are in the garden area and that's what can be improved. The seating is quite uncomfortable - there are only barrels where you either stand or if you get lucky, you might find some high chairs (still not comfortable). Also, it gets really hot in Napa and yet there was no shade so you will end up feeling toasted in a few minutes. The tasting experience is almost designed to just make you taste and leave in 15 mins (vs sit comfortably and enjoy the experience). They have a beautiful space to have a much better seating setup. The wine itself is good - there is one in particular I really love - the red and white blend which is proprietary to Peju. We purchased a few bottles of that. Overall, I wish they would make the seating more comfortable and shaded and it would be a perfect Napa winery tasting experience. read more

What a great experience we had this past week we had at Peju! We are members at the sister winery (Calmere) , but they close their tasting room during the winter. We called same day and were lucky that they happened to have a 2:30 afternoon tasting appointment for us. We were really hoping to try Peju since we obviously love Calmere ;) The staff was so friendly and gave us a beautiful table out front near the gorgeous fountains. They moved umbrellas around to help provide just enough sun/shade which was much appreciated. Our pourer (Joseph I believe) was so helpful and knowledgeable about wine. I love that he provided just enough tid bits of info during the tasting. I learned quite a bit from him. The cheese board was amazing! ...And a steal at $20 - ($30 to non-members I believe).
