Acupuncture. Once you get over the thought of becoming a pincushion, the rest is easy. I found acupuncture to be not painful at all, unless you're a real touch-me-not, and, if so, what were you thinking? In working with Peggy, and strictly in my experience, I discovered that, while acupuncture is not a panacea, it's not a placebo, either. There are some things it works well for, and, some, not so much. Some effects are lasting, others are temporary. In practice, I found I need to use acupuncture tactically as an adjunctive therapy. You can easily be lulled into this as a weekly getaway or spa treatment. Peggy has convenient hours and a very cozy, comfortable room at Central Family Practice. It's such a welcoming escape from the stresses of everyday life that you have to be careful not to abuse the hour-long escape of incense, essential oils, and music. What I respect and appreciate about Peggy is that she is a holistic Eastern-centric practitioner. Her treatment plan starts with a very thorough dossier of paperwork involving your medical history, and a required 30 minute assessment and interview prior to the first session. Update/Confession Time: I'm addicted to Peggy. She is amazing. I go to her bi-weekly (sometimes more if I have drama going on). She is always the picture of nurturing and caring. Just being in her presence I feel better. No matter what ails me or even if nothing ails me, I leave feeling calm, soothed, relaxed, and cared for. I have had at least three epiphanies during my treatments and even on the non-epiphany visits I feel meditative and still in my thoughts (that's a miracle right there). Having never had acupuncture before going to Peggy, I don't have anything to compare her to. I was referred to her by a friend of mine who'd been seeing her for a while. I went in because I was having some health issues that I don't want to get into on the public internet, but will tell you that she took an extensive health history and lifestyle questionnaire and sat there with me and chatted for a long time. So I had some sort of awful cough/snot/breathing problem/sniffly/plugged up sort of thing going on for a long time. I called Peggy and left a message and when she called back, she said, "I'm sorry to hear you're not at 100%" (How cute is that?!) Anyway, she was able to get me in in just a few days, and as normal, talked to me about my symptoms and what-not. Although she generally tries to go with the all-natural stuff, she told me that if I weren't better by Friday that I needed to go to the doctor. (And she even gave me that motherly-you better go-look.) She "gave me whiskers," meaning she stuck a few needles near my nose/mouth area. They were a little weird, but cool, too. I've had acupuncture sessions with Peggy for several months now. She has extensive knowledge and experience in Chinese medicine, as well as in its relationship to Western medicine and how the two complement each other. Peggy is a true caregiver with a delightful, warm personality who gives her concern and knowledge generously and who truly wants to see her patients flourish. I've been to several other practitioners over the years, and Peggy is at the top of my list. I've found that her assessments of my maladies have been spot-on every time, and her treatments and herb regimens are always beneficial and appropriate. Recently, Peggy's Chinese medicine protocol for me, although it has formed a strong foundation, turned out to be not quite enough to handle a particularly pesky situation as quickly as I needed. Peggy was quick to acknowledge that it was a case where Western medicine would be the better option and was completely supportive of the treatment my MD had prescribed. Peggy Ghorbani is a great accupuncturist. I came to her to get my body in harmony in preparation for pregnancy. I had been trying to get pregnant for some time and was preparing to do some fertility treatments. But no need, after a few months of weekly treatments with Peggy I became pregnant naturally. She will tell you that fertility accupuncture is not her specialty but she certainly can help you get your body into a healthy smooth running to state to make it prime for conception. I continue to see her throughout my pregnancy and have had a very easy time with it and very few uncomfortable symptoms. I first want to say that I highly recommend that you go visit Peggy. She has changed my life in many ways. I first visited Peggy in January. Peggy has been nothing short of a miracle worker for me. I sought out acupuncture as a last resort treatment before surgery for intense pain in my wrist and hands. I have never tried acupuncture because I have a crippling fear of needles, Peggy was so kind and understanding. Which is indicative of her healing approach.
