I've had to go here a few times to pick up coffee for meetings. The service is always good, especially considering I pick up smack dab in the middle of the morning rush. Other times I've been here for a cup of joe it's always pleasant. Don't head up to Montclair Village often, but it's nice to have Peet's when I am int he area. read more

This is one of my lesser preferred Peet's locations. The parking situation is not cute, for starters. It's frequently hard to find parking nearby and sometimes it takes so long I just give up. The store itself tends to be a bit more unkempt than the other locations I've been to. The employees at this location are pretty hit or miss. The last time I was here, the woman who helped me was awesome but other times I've had rude or otherwise disinterested folks. I've gotten at least 2 cups of coffee from here that tasted a little bit off (maybe not fresh). So to sum up, this location is alright but not worth a special trip. read more

My go to location. Service is usually quick and accurate although lines can get quite long during peak hours.

Hop diggity in the midst of Montclair Village, CA. I came here in the morning to pack in study time, and there was a line out the door. So much for parking with the books. However I come late afternoons, and its mostly families and kids getting their fix at the end of a work/school day. Its a relaxing atmosphere, and certainly gets more buzz than Starbucks across the street. The workers are really nice, and there are plenty of outlets for computers, and seating. read more

Drinks are always too hot, staff is often disorganized and store is often messy and in need to cleaning. But it's still good coffee.

The manager contacted me after my review and service has been stellar ever since. Friendly staff, know my drink, always say hello. There are occasional bumps in the road, but overall this is my favorite Peet's location. As in every day. Yes, I may have an addiction. read more

I normally go to the Elmwood Café but I was in another part of town today so I went to the Peets in Montclair. Now cappuccinos are made all over the world and it's pretty generally accepted that a cappuccino is espresso with a little bit of milk and some foam on top. The Elmwood Café makes my drink perfectly every single time. Today at Peets I ordered a cappuccino and I received a lukewarm glass of milk with a little bit of coffee in it. What a joke. Cappuccino should be the first thing they teach the baristas to make. read more

Great Peet's location. Pretty consistent drinks and mostly very clean. Always friendly. Always seems to have more business than the Starbucks literally across the street. One note: avoid at all costs on Sundays, especially pre-2pm. That's when the farmer's market is going on just steps away and, being the larger of the two major coffee options, seems to be where everyone gathers - especially on those cold days. The wait can vary, but if you come in around noon, you can wait up to 30 minutes for your coffee. They should definitely account for this with double staff on Sundays, but it always seems like they have the standard 4 (two on registers, two on drinks) and one always ends up grinding beans, so that's why the line backs up. This Peets is definitely your best option for coffee in Montclair, most of Oakland for that matter. Peets coffee anywhere is still the best. I am mostly a latter drinker and sometimes stray to a cappuccino, but even then i order it wet so the difference is minute. As far as the ambience goes it is decent. The new remodel is a bit of a shame. True it does offer more seating but i think it has just become more homogenous in the almighty quest for a strong Brand. I have to say that i don't particularly care for new layout and the tables seem to be a mish-mash of size and positioning. The one recessed family style banquet seating area that is there (where the tea used to be located) is awkward and invariably seems to be taken up by one person sipping a house blend and reading the 2 left over newspaper pages of section D that always seems to be laying around. That being said my wife says i am wrong and she likes it much more then before. The staff overall seems ok. I have noticed a bunch of new faces in the staff since the remodel and have seem some of the original crowd leave. Thankfully the guy with the mohawk is still there but the pixie like blond girl seems to have left. She made the best lattes, and always seemed to have a nice bit or dry sarcasm to throw my way, i found it funny and endearing others may not have. Maybe thats why we don't see her there anymore. Parking is an issue but you have to find your window of opportunity in order to go there. If you want coffee at any of the peek times then parking is a major pain in the a** unless you don't mind schlepping from the parking garage. Unless you order your lattes non-fat the walk will be good for you. Even if you do don't complain the short walk is still good for you. ( by the way the windows are between 10:30-11:15 AM and 1:45-2:30 PM except for the days that the school kids get out of school early. on those days the afternoon slot becomes a bit more hairy) read more

Peets is definately my chain coffee of choice. This location is always very busy in the mornings and in the afternoons when everyone is geting off work, however they can be quick and very polite. They make me the best Caramel latte! My only complaint would be that I although i have been a daily customer for nearly a year now they still have to ask my name. read more

Love Peet's...love this location, but find things are quite slow, even when there are only 1 or 2 customers in line. I think I'm spoiled and more accustomed to the SF 3rd st location where they whirl you in and out in seconds!! Great for weekends when you aren't rushing to BART! read more

Peet's coffee rules and this is my favorite Peet's location when I am in the Bay Area. If I lived around here I would plant myself there every morning. The gal who took my order this morning was very friendly and makes me reconsider my flight back to Illinois later today! Peets isn't quite what it was in the old days - you know that when Mr. Peet opened his first shop on Vine in Berkeley, the coffee was a nickel. Hard to believe, huh? Montclair Village, a pretty sleepy place some years back, received its stamp of approval when Peets opened up here. This location is a great rendezvous point for meetings with friends, and fortunately for me, it's right around the corner from my condo. The decor keeps to original time-honored dark oak, and the coffee, as it has been since the beginning, is still potent and full-bodied - snake spit my grandmother used to say. The hills staff is friendly and most efficient, and the recent remodel added seating which is ample - except during the morning rush. Come up and get buzzed. read more

Sometimes when I have staff meetings I get some refreshments. Last week I had a morning meeting and decided to get some bagels and coffee. I stopped by Noah's bagels in Montclair and thought it would be a problem since I wanted 45 bagels. I was out in 5 minutes. They were great!! Put those in the car and went into Peet's a couple doors down. When I ordered two regular and one decaf Peet's to go, the person taking the order told the other person like she was telling her someone just died. The person who needed to get the order was upset. Needless to say, I did not feel welcome. I was told it would be 10 to 15 minutes. I waited patiently for that amount of time and it was obvious I was the last priority. I told them I needed to get my son to school and would be back. One of them yelled across the room at me as I was leaving that I should call first and allow 15 minutes.OK. When I got back it had been a half an hour and the items still were not ready. I waited while they s l o w l y bagged them. I bearly made my meeting. Noah's had it together, Peet's was really bad. Now I realize you can pre package bagels and need to have the coffee fresh, but I have gotten Peet's to go in Berkely several times without the drama. read more

I love peets. This store is almost always under staffed and the people don't work very quickly so don't be in a rush.

Please inform the employees on how to pull shots. Morning crew kicks a** with some exceptions now and then. Night crew needs a bit of work. If you watch closely, you can practically see your shot being cooked to death as it sits. People pay a lot of money for these beverages and I would hope that they'd be up to par. Whether it's iced or hot, I'm constantly receiving these foul, bitter, unsavory drinks regardless of the type. I'm not going to be "that guy" and return it because I simply don't have the time. But it would be comforting to know that I was receiving a quality coffee as advertised. read more

I always get a medium latte and they are inconsistent. Sometimes they are made properly with a little bit of foam on the top and sometimes they are made with the container filled with frothy foam that reduces down to half a container turning my medium latte into a small. The other day the drink actually felt lighter and I went back and asked them to put more milk in. So the staff needs training in how to make foam correctly. If I pay $3.60 for a drink I want it done correctly. The other thing is they frequently say my name wrong turning it into a man's name, which is super lame given that I have a common woman's name. I usually spell it for them but the coffee makers still get it wrong. read more

I've been going to the peets in Berkeley almost every morning for years and love the baristas, the coffee, and the service. I just moved and switched peets and am really frustrated with this one. They never seem to have enough staff - with 2-3 people in front of me in line, I'm often waiting 15 minutes for a latte. They also often get my order wrong - they missed 2/3 today (regular instead of decaf) and the wrong type of muffin. They usually give me a discount, likely due to the extreme frustration on my face after waiting for 10 minutes behind 2 other people but I'd really rather just get in and out of there and pay full price. I know they are trying and working hard but hope this message gets to management to up the staffing in the am. read more

I love Peet's but their return policy is HORRIBLE. I purchased a Gaggia espresso maker for $300.00. I later went in to exchange it for another model. Do to a price discrepancy on the receipt, I was told I had to wait for a refund check before they could do the exchange. It has been two weeks. They have the machine and my money. I have called corporate office twice and get little info on when my refund check is to arrive. Needless to say I will not be purchasing any high priced items from any Peet's store again. read more
