It's cool, but if you're like me and like modern interiors or at least historically authentic spaces, this may not be your thing. This place is usually busy. Sometimes we can't find a seat and have to go elsewhere. When it's packed, the space can feel too rushed and noisy for us. It can be hard to converse or hard to just read and sip a cup for an hour. The coffee is more old-school, comforting, and predictable than you'd find at a third wave shop. I was disappointed with the last cup I had which tasted as though flavoring was added either to the beans or perhaps from a residual preparation. For a purist, this can be a let down. It's great that they offer a few pastries and light sandwiches, although they are a little pricey for the portions. The counter staff and baristas are usually very friendly.

Instead of the light, airy matcha sponge we normally look forward to, the texture was heavy and gummy, almost like it had been sitting in the display fridge absorbing moisture for days or the fruit had not been properly prepped. I really appreciate the great customer service here, which is why this review hurts to write, but the quality control on the bakery side this time around was unacceptable. I really hope the management addresses freshness and shelf life standards because we would love to keep coming back.

I quite simply do not understand why it takes so long to make a medium iced vanilla latte w/ oat milk. Sure it's busy and there are plenty of variables that equal the sum of the wait time, but they're fully staffed up front. There is seating, both indoors and outdoors, but it is limited, so you may have to share space with your fellow coffee lovers. While I did not partake, they do offer a small variety of pastries, baked goods, and other breakfast sandwiches/meals. Service was decent. I initially was asking questions about the Kyoto style of coffee, but the barista just took my questions as an order and kept things moving. The drink was pretty good; I'd definitely get it again. They used freeze dried strawberries in it, which I would not have known if I hadn't actually tried to eat the strawberries (my favorite fruit). I'm curious if they make it with real strawberries when they are in season, and if they do I may be here often in May and June. This location is not terribly large but isn't the most crowded I've ever been in either. You'll often find students in here amongst the business folk and tourists since DePaul surrounds the place.
