I called at 7:18 pm immediately leaving Midway Airport. I was told 25mins for order to be ready. It's now 8:10pm there's no one here but me. I knew before I came here from California that their wait is beyond normal time. The ONLY reason I came to this establishment was to allow my teen to taste these only in Chicago tacos. Great people and great tacos. This was a homestead on Chicago's West Side. Glad to have a location near south. Do try!

Best black tacos in Chicago! But, definitely call ahead! They are notoriously slow. Try mixing hot and mild.

Ordered the plate of Gnocchi with roasted butternut squash and Chicken Madeira, both the lunch size entrees. The waitress knew we were going to split the meals in half so she brought the meals out separately and in two separate plates. Doing so gave us time to savor each meal on its own and not have to try and divvy it up ourselves. I loved it. The food was phenomenal! We also had the bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer and that did not last long on the plate. Upon leaving we were trying to buy a couple bottles of wine. We tried getting the attention of the staff, yet were told they were busy. We waiting a good 10mins and still didn't get any help. I'm not sure why they were so short staffed for a busy afternoon, they could literally have 1 or 2 people at a register just for takeout wine orders. Or, suggestion, before we leave our table, we put the order in and they have it ready at the register for us to pay on our way out. Either way we walked out of there without wine. This place is big enough to accommodate alot of people and there is a parking garage just behind it, which makes it very convenient.

They carry our favorite beer, Allagash, which was a nice bonus! The food was very good. Cheese curds to start, yum! I ordered a burger that was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, and John had the chicken sandwich, which he also really enjoyed. Everything came out fresh and well prepared. The corner location was quiet when we visited, and while it is winter now, the outdoor seating looks like it would be fantastic in the warmer months. I also loved learning that Kettlestrings is the name of the founding family of Oak Park. A thoughtful, well done neighborhood spot that we will definitely be back to.

We had nearly planned to dine at Cooper's Hawk (CH), but instead chose this establishment after passing by it, as it appeared to be quite peaceful and inviting. My friend, her children, and I--forming a party of four--were all eager to try the fried cheese curds. They did not disappoint and provided sufficient portions for all of us. We placed our orders: the 12-year-old selected the house salad with chicken, which was generously-sized; the 10-year-old ordered chicken tenders with a side of fries, which was plenty for him. My friend opted for the bourbon-brined chicken sandwich with a side of fries and reported that it was delicious. I ordered the Oak Park burger, which was absolutely divine--juicy, flavorful, and satisfying enough to fill me without needing to consume all the fries. I am pleased we chose this restaurant over the overpriced and somewhat overrated Cooper's Hawk. I also enjoyed a couple of Old Cubans as part of the experience. The atmosphere was exceptionally relaxed; the background music and the TVs playing football allowed us to converse comfortably, creating a warm and cozy environment. If I did not live in what I consider the somewhat dull state of Texas, I would certainly return. I am hopeful to visit again soon, as I am already dreaming of that enjoyable experience. My gratitude goes to the chef, the young male server with glasses and curly hair (apologies for forgetting your name), and the female bartender that evening, for providing a warm, cozy, and memorable night along with a delicious dinner.

Most of the offerings taste like they were made just hours ago (because, according to a friendly manager I spoke with, they are) so flavors are still distinct and fresh tasting, not all slurred together from sitting too long. The Basil Turkey Meatballs are excellent: mild, tasty, and very tender, they have a familiar "home-made" quality that I really liked. The Smoky Chicken is also very good. Freshness of the side dishes really stood out to me. Most were more like home-prepared than "fast food," the Spring Pasta Salad being a good example: it's light and very flavorful, not bogged down by sauce or oil. All pasta salad should be this way. Other sides I had were all very enjoyable. The Chickpeas & Feta are bright, citrusy, spring-like and fresh. The Beets & Citrus are light, simple, and extremely tasty; beet fans will admire the preparation. Sweet & Sour Cucumbers are a-bit-but-not-too sweet, crunchy and addicting. Roasted Carrots have a deep earthy flavor, lightly sweet and also somewhat addicting. If you like spicy food and want a rationale to eat (more) broccoli, the Fly by Jing Broccoli Crunch is your ticket! It has a very nice kick of heat, with a notable sesame flavor, and the broccoli itself has just the right amount of crunch. Finally, the desserts were also very good. The Chocolate Chip cookie is soft and tender, and actually kind of... juicy! It's neat and different. The Seedy Cookie is yummy, with enough seeds and grains to (almost) convince yourself you're not actually eating a dessert. The Tahini Brownie is one of my favorites: FARE's Tahini Brownie reminds me of a light and very fudgy version of halvah. It took me a bite or two at first to get past that they are not "typical" brownies, and are excellent on their own terms. (And they are the best gluten-free brownies I've had.) Finally, FARE's Toasted Almond Bread is moist and delicate. I liked it even more after a day in my fridge, which seemed to make it even more moist. In summary, there's a lot of variety here, and everything I tried was very good to excellent. Flavors are distinct, fresh, and fun. You can tell how much care goes into these dishes. Highly recommended!

FARE has quickly secured a spot on that list. The first time I ordered the Smoky Chicken Plate, I was at the house by myself waiting for the furnace to be replaced. What started as a simple "let's get the furnace serviced and cleaned" appointment quickly turned into the HVAC technician politely suggesting that continuing to run the furnace would not be a good idea. At that point I looked around at the mountain of moving boxes currently filling the house and decided I didn't need to start collecting them from the trees and neighboring yards too. When the food arrived, I took one look at it and thought, "Damn, this looks good!!!" and immediately texted my husband about it. I followed that with another message explaining that it wasn't just looks, it actually tasted great too. The chicken was indeed smoky, the harissa potatoes were sweet, and I especially liked the Green Goddess slaw and mac & cheese. We've ordered three times now. The last order was missing the spicy red pepper sauce, which is actually a great on a few things on the plate. The mini cornbread muffin is as described in the screenshot and still somehow disappears faster than seems scientifically possible. Needless to say, when my husband tried it later, he also liked it. In hindsight, at least I wouldn't have had to take the empties out in phases.
