The tortilla soup tasted old, the steak on the steak sandwich was not fresh and had absolutely no seasoning and there were maybe 2 small pieces of onions. My waitress was extremely understanding when I expressed to her my concern, she first offered salt and pepper and then she offered to replace with steak tacos, which I thought was really nice until I got them home and tasted them. The steak tacos tasted like spoiled meat cooked on a dirty grill. This is definitely not the quality of food I'm used to from Amerika's.

It was a fluke that first time when I got it. I finally got smart about it and changed the name on the plates to "MUFFIN PLEASE." No issues since I started this a month ago, until tonight's nail in the coffin... One plate got everything; the other was missing not only the cornbread muffin but the CHICKEN! This is difficult to understand since it was just a "quantity 2." So now we've sworn them off since we've given them a chance for a year and they can't get orders right. (There was another occasion when our drinks weren't delivered either, but that one I don't know if was the driver or not.) Previous: My husband and I recently bought a house in Berwyn, which means we've been on a mission to establish our new go-to takeout spots. This is a responsibility I take very seriously. FARE has quickly secured a spot on that list. The first time I ordered the Smoky Chicken Plate, I was at the house by myself waiting for the furnace to be replaced. What started as a simple "let's get the furnace serviced and cleaned" appointment quickly turned into the HVAC technician politely suggesting that continuing to run the furnace would not be a good idea. At that point | looked around at the mountain of moving boxes currently filling the house and decided I didn't need to start collecting them from the trees and neighboring yards too. When the food arrived, I took one look at it and thought, "Damn, this looks good!!!" and immediately texted my husband about it. I followed that with another message explaining that it wasn't just looks, it actually tasted great too. The chicken was indeed smoky, the harissa potatoes were sweet, and I especially liked the Green Goddess slaw and mac & cheese. We've ordered three times now. The last order was missing the spicy red pepper sauce, which is actually a great on a few things on the plate. The mini cornbread muffin is as described in the screenshot and still somehow disappears faster than seems scientifically possible. Needless to say, when my husband tried it later, he also liked it.

Staff takes too long to come by and service their guests even if it's only at half capacity. Parking wasn't an issue too. I also feel like this is the only place worth checking out in this little downtown.

This hell hole in the wall has all the disrespectful service, ignorant patrons and dubious sanitation you might expect from a finely scripted ghetto nightmare. Open late, Peeples Taco Place is one of the only options in the area and now I know where the inspiration for the Whodini classic, "Freaks Come Out At Night" originated. Frequently crowded, with the most disgruntled customers hanging outside on the sidewalk near the chain-smoking guy with one eye playing bootleg DVDs he's selling of the latest movies still playing in the theaters, you may wonder, "if it's so terrible, why"? With a standard fare of greasy-spoon staples (cheeseburgers, fish sandwich, italian beef, etc.), the family run Peeples Taco Place is best known for tacos (duh). Experienced locals order spiced ground beef or steak on small corn tortillas folded in aluminum foil with shredded lettuce. Mind you, neither the cooks nor the proprietors are Mexican but at just or $1.60 a taco, this lapse in authenticity doesn't seem to bother the munchie crowd who orders them by the dozen. Problem is, the grossly over-weight old folks who operate Peeples Taco behind the plugger and hand-drafted note infested bullet-proof glass are glacially slow, forgetful, hard-of-hearing and with an unabashed snear could utterly care less about your time or patronage. Yes, be prepared to wait... and wait... and wait still some more. Nobody knows why it takes so damn long, but during your crucible of tolerance you're forced to eavesdrop in on the colorfully profane conversations of blue-jean clad local drug dealers and dirty gym-shoe wearing wanna-be gangbangers as they holla obscenities at their various baby-mommas on uniquely decorated cellphones while standing or pacing as they count a knot of small bills. It's not actually unsafe (statistically I don't know for sure which murders sustained a conviction), but it's as close as you will get to feeling imminently in danger without actually needing a tourniquet soon. Nothing revs the appetite more than the fear of getting accosted. This would be a great "dare" or bet for someone you kinda don't like -- "If the Cubs DON'T win the World Series, you have to pick-up 5 hot tacos from Peeples Tacos at 7 past Midnight; if the Cubs DO win, I'll buy you a purple Jaguar with tinted windows." My pick is the Italian beef, which at $2.75 including fries is greasy enough to oil a semi-truck. Generous and cheap. Try not to stare at the preparation or it may be hard to keep down as an afterthought. Somehow Peeples is a sick twist on Chicago comfort food. Familiarity can be reassuring, even if it's bad. Lots of folks have grown-up on this crap. Is it any wonder why obesity, heart disease, and diabetes kill more residents than anything else. If it's before 9, go to the CA Beef joint across the street. pay a little extra but walkout without the caption "If you dare" silently hovering above your meal. Lord help me to never stumble into Peeples Taco again. read more

The ignorant male cook in the back ALWAYS complains about making our tacos crispy, even though it's an option on the menu. Everytime we come he got some smart to say JUST BECAUSE we order crispy tacos. If you don't want to do your job...quit and don't work in the restaurant business. So WARNING to everyone, don't order crispy because the ignorant man in the back will have a problem with it and who knows what he does to the food. Smh he literally said OUT LOUD "DANG. THEY WANT CRISPY?" like what is the problem if I'm PAYING for it plus its an OPTION on the MENU? DONT GO TO THIS GHETTO RUDE PLACE. All black businesses aren't good businesses. Where do I begin... First let me say this is the most greasy, ragety, unsavory, ran down, most delicious, tastey, wonderful food on the ×××damn westside... If you can get over the panhandling guys out front and the drug dealers trying to sell you some "Loud" you can get to the bulletproof window covered in outdated menus and other ill type shit. The large woman sitting at the register will take your order in between watching a 1977 zenith tv set and digging in her nose. I will always love this place. You have to know the history of Peeples to understand what this black owned family restaurant really is about. They sometimes take too long with orders and can be. Rude. But the food is awesome as always. It will never be the same as Pulaski and Van Buren, but it a close second. This is my taco Tuesday night with me babe. read more
