Lack of communication between call center and the Olney office. The receptionist was rude.

We have been going to Dr. Hirsch for almost 3 years and he is the best pediatrician in the area…read more Dr. Hirsch is a sole practitioner, with excellent education/training (Duke, Georgetown, Emory). He has been practicing for several years and was recently named to the Washington Best Doctors. I am really pleased with the way he runs his practice, and with his view and approach to medicine. He is amazing with kids--friendly, quick, and my son really likes him (my daughter is a newborn and she likes everyone :) He is great about screenings and making sure, developmentally, your child is on track, but he does not intervene when not medically necessary. He explains everything to you in a way that you can understand but without being patronizing. Even though I was a second time parent with my baby, he still explained things in a way that made me feel at ease and "reminded," which is great because some people just expect that you will remember! Wait times are excellent. Maybe about 5 minutes or sometimes less. Also, he has individual buckets of toys for kids, which helps maintain the mess, and probably makes cleaning easier. The exam rooms are incredible. He has themed rooms---a firetruck room where the bed is a firetruck! There are orange cones, real vintage fireman hats on the wall, and little fire trucks and extinguishers for cabinet fixtures. He has a jungle room where the table is an elephant, and two new rooms that may not yet be finished--a train and a cafe. The technology is state of the art, and he tries to run things on an electronic health record system, which I LOVE! He monitors progress through an online CHADIS questionnaire, and keeps electronic records. He does print out material for you to take home, which is an important sign of a good primary care provider. We have never had an issue getting a sick appointment when we need one. He somehow manages to fit us in. Between two kids, this is really important. Also, his staff is excellent. His nurse is kind, sweet, and great with kids. On top of that, she is good and quick with the shots, which I really appreciate. Leslie, his front desk/office manager is quick, kind and efficient. I find that either you have a great doctor and an "okay staff" or the other way around. it is so nice to have both!!! Overall, you can't go wrong with Dr. Hirsch. We are truly very happy with him and his office!

We started going to The Pediatric Center after transferring from another practice, and it has been…read moresuch a refreshing change. The office is well-organized, the staff is consistently friendly, and the environment is clean and welcoming. We really appreciate the separation of well and sick visit areas -- it's a thoughtful touch that gives extra peace of mind. Everyone we've encountered has been so kind to our 1.5-year-old, which helps him feel completely at ease during visits. They genuinely interact with the kids and make the experience positive from start to finish. I recently had to call on a weekend and was connected with a nurse who was incredibly helpful and thorough in answering my questions. That kind of care really stands out. We see Dr. Diane Landram, and she is absolutely wonderful. She takes the time to listen, offers helpful and up-to-date information, and never makes you feel rushed or dismissed. This is exactly what pediatric care should look like -- highly recommend!

We started going here about 5 years ago. The doctors and staff used to be wonderful. However…read morerecently the quality of service has degraded, particularly with the nurses who answer the phone. They are snippy, impatient, and rude. While we like our doctor, who continues to practice there, we often have to deal with the nursing staff on the phone for tele-health type questions about illness and having school forms completed. In the past the nurses have been so kind and helpful but lately it has been an unpleasant experience all around. During the past few encounters I've found the nurses to be quite demeaning, impatient, and condescending. While we have had a positive experience with the doctor, we are looking to switch to another practice due to the poor quality of the nursing staff.

We have been taking our two year old son to Metropolitan Pediatrics since he was born and have had…read morenothing but wonderful experiences. The care provided by Dr. Kulp and his team is truly exceptional, it completely stands apart from any other doctors offices I've ever visited in my life. He and his team are incredibly warm and caring. They obviously go out of their way to put your little one at ease, and they genuinely care about them. Today, on a Sunday, our son woke up with what we thought was pink eye. We left a voicemail on the emergency line, and within minutes Dr. Kulp called us back inviting us to come in to get it checked out so that we wouldn't have to go to an urgent care, or keep my son from daycare the following day. The entire appointment, Dr. Kulp was thorough and so, so kind (it's really beyond kind - his bedside manner is unparalleled). He seemed absolutely happy to be there on a Sunday morning to care for our son. This is just one example of the many times we have had our decision to join this practice reaffirmed. I will say, in the interest of being completely transparent, when my son was a newborn we once had a nurse who was really struggling to take blood from my son for one of the routine newborn tests. It was very unsettling to witness as a first time parent (I'm a worry wart at heart but I try to be the cool, chill mom in public), she pricked him multiple times and just couldn't get it. They brought a different nurse in who was able to collect the sample without a problem, and everyone was very apologetic about what happened. I'm sure these things can happen to anyone, but I don't think that nurse is there anymore as I've never seen her again in the many times we've been back. All of the other nurses we've ever seen have been very professional and have provided great care, this was clearly an anomaly. We visited and "interviewed" another popular Bethesda doctor selecting Metropolitan Pediatrics. I know we made the right decision, and we plan to be patients up until they have to kick our adult children out!

The office staff had always been friendly and accommodating when I needed to reschedule appointment or just asked for doctor's advice. My daughter is a year old now and we visited this practice a lot without any complains or any billing issues I noticed others listed in their reviews. We are expecting another baby in December and will continue with Metropolitan Pediatrics !

Recently, I also started bringing my infant here, and I feel comfortable overall. However, I wanted to share a couple of concerns I have. One is about hand hygiene; I've noticed that hands aren't sanitized in the room before examinations. When I mentioned this, the assistant explained they wash their hands outside and then touch the doorknob, which makes me worry about cleanliness. There's hand sanitizer available in the room--using it would be a simple way to improve. My other concern is related to privacy during training sessions. When new tech or assistants are being trained, they sometimes bring in another person without asking for permission or introducing them, which could be a privacy issue under HIPAA. I hope these small adjustments can help make the experience even better for everyone.
