I noticed they moved, but couldn't find the place. The guy on the phone didn't seem too interested in directing a possible new customer to his new location either. In the future, if you're asked for directions, you might want to give the actual address and more than just a street name... and you shouldn't have to be asked to give cross streets. I have a bike that sat on my balcony for a year and then spent a year in my garage. It was in pretty sad shape, and I wasn't even sure where to start with getting it back into riding condition. A friend recommended this place. I took my bike in yesterday, picked it up today, and 80 bucks later it's ready to go. A really nice man gave me free air because my tire was low here, and he told me about routs I could pedal and encounter fewer cars, and fewer tailpipes making me cough as I try to get healthy. He handed me a flier that told about all the services members get, with no pressure, for me to read later, none of the "SPECIAL OFFER ACT NOW!!!" silliness. They evidently don't' work on commission. Unfortunately they'll be moving soon because the city is building a year round outdoor ice rink at BikeStation's current location. He swears he's not joking. No parking downtown, Pine and the new unimproved Pike are half empty and the city is spending my tax money building an outdoor ice skating rink??? That's got to be a bad joke. Look for Bike Station when they move, they can also sell you the registration for bikes that the Fire Dept only down on weekend mornings. read more

me and my friend decided to finally go bike riding together today. the original plan was to ride down pch and the coast to seal beach or so. that didnt quite happen. she thought her tires seemed flat but she wasnt sure. i read about this place on yelp, and so i decied it would probably be a good idea for us to go get our bikes checked out there before riding far away. we probably seemed like complete bike bimbos but the guys were cool and filled our tires with air. i bought a mini pump that can be screwed onto your bike which is just absolutley splendid. the worker screwed it on my bike for me. awesome. thanks guys. read more

I was in Long Beach for a meeting and had a day before everything started to explore. I went to Pedal Movement which was only 2 blocks from the Long Beach Renaissance. The staff was super nice and flexible. I rented a decent hybrid bike for $30 for 24 hours with a helmet and lock. They seemed really flexible in the length and would work with you to do shorter or longer rentals. I rode about 14 miles the first day and 30 the next all the way down to Huntington beach. There is some really easy flat riding. Definitely get a bike from here instead of those hourly slow blue bikes available fore hourly rental. read more

More praise with me lol. The first time I went in to get a new tube and get it installed. This past time I went to get my derailleur adjusted and a new lining for my tire. The guy was working on the wheel for about 20 minutes (not because he was slow, but because he did a lot of shit). Then I asked how much, he said, "well, a dollar for the liner, and that's about it". So it was free to get my wheel adjusted and everything. That's pretty nice. Plus, the people that work there know what they are talking about! I asked the people at Jones in belmont shore about a light recommendation. They said, "ya, that's a good one"... me: "really?"... them: "ya, ok". They could care less. read more

I've been a member on and off for about one year. Pros: 1) Free bike parking during business hours for everyone, non-members included. This is a much safer bet, especially if you need to leave your bike for awhile in the downtown area. You don't ever have to worry about your bike being stolen here. 2) Extremely reasonable monthly membership fees. For a cool $12/month, you can get 24-hour, secured access to their member parking area up top. I would opt for the yearly membership plan of $96, but I don't ride my bike as much during the winter months. 3) The friendly, helpful staff. Everyone whom I've encountered there has been very professional and kind. When I asked about free air for my tires, the guy in the store filled my tires for me. I didn't even ask him to do it! When I renewed my membership after an extended period of time, my key fob did not work. The office in charge was quick to fix this for me and they were very responsive. 4) Amazing location in relation to bars/restaurants and the Metro Blue Line and bus lines. It's truly in the best spot for bike services. 5) Incredible discounts on bike rentals with your membership. The discounted hourly and daily rates are great; they're significantly cheaper than the non-membership rates. Note: there's only one bike rental discount per membership. 5) There are so many other services that I don't take advantage of! Cons: 1) This is not really a con, but I tend to see the same bikes parked upstairs quite a bit. While there is a no-long term parking policy, I think some members abuse it slightly. Summary: I really have nothing negative to say about the Bikestation. This business is a veritable sign of Long Beach's progressive views on urban biking, and I feel truly blessed that I have a very secure, well-lit, and well-managed place to store my bike for those nights when I shouldn't be driving, when I know parking will suck downtown, and for whenever! i have been wanting to visit bikestation for a while now... and as you might imagine i had high hopes... but i had no idea how awesome it would be! i bought my bike last year at jax bicycles and they said to bring it in after a while so they could adjust the brakes. after riding every day for a couple of months i took it in... where my request for them to adjust the brakes met with an empty stare. the guy threw it on the rack, spun through the gears and said it was fine. he treated me like i was some sort of gigantic ass for wasting his time. after that experience i never bothered to go back. I was afraid of riding my bike because i knew there was something wrong with the brakes... however, after i moved down the street from bikestation i took it down to have it looked at. within five minutes the gentleman who worked there let me know that it is normally $7 to adjust brakes but that he would not charge me anything because it was an easy job. all he had to do was tighten the cables. when it came down to it, i was helped by a guy who knew what he was doing and just wanted me to be able to get on my bike and enjoy my ride without any problems. he could have easily charged me for this or that, but he was nothing but helpful and honest. thanks to bikestation i was able to take a great ride down the long beach bike path. even if you do not live in long beach, believe me it is worth the trip! read more

I came in yesterday afternoon with a flat rear tire. I'm not the fastest tire changer and I do not carry a high pressure pump so I was in need of assistance and John was there to keep me riding. John is very friendly, knowledgable and had me back on the road in probably 10 minutes. He found the hole (probably ran over a piece of glass), taped the inside, put on the new tube (showed me the fasted way to change it), aired it up and had me on the way. A hidden gem if you are a self service kind of person. I stopped in becuase I heard that that LB has a 300 dollar fine if you ride your bike after dark without a front and rear light! Ouch! I went in bought the lights started putting them on my bike and lost a nut in the process, they just gave me another. Then I asked them realine my front tire and handlebars. No problem they were done in a matter of minutes. When I asked how much..no charge? Right On! I asked if they were a Nonprofit since I saw a comment about that on here and was told "Kinda". this place is a miracle!!! if you are a mechanical imbecil like myself and own i bike you'll land at the bike station sooner or later. i didn't know how to put the bike up on the stand, they did it for me. they showed me how! they walked me through the tools i was going to need, the different quality of the products i was buying. so nice of them. i felt guided and not ridiculed. they are so honest too! i went back to buy a bike lock, and the staff is really the kind of people that will tell you to buy something reasonable to your needs, not just the most expensive one available. they have every tool you can possibly need, and also every tool you can't find at other stores. they let you use all their tools for FREE! easy, convenient, and cheap. Not a bad combo. This spot is right behind my condo so its a easy place to park the bike without making the condo look trashy. You get a fob key access that's 24 hours so if you feel like a 2 am bike ride you can certainly do that. read more

I went in , not knowing what kind of tire I would need or how the tires differ. Brent explained what each of the numbers on the tires meant and how differences in each would or would not effect the bike and ride. Worst bike shop in Long Beach. Does not sell new or used bikes. Did away with storing your bike upstairs and all the perks that come with it. Bikeshare bikes are way cheaper to rent than Bikestation and they are on the market for foreclosure because the juvenile subordinate co-owner has no clue on how to run a business. Stopped in here to pick up a replacement inner tube for my road bike. Was pleasantly surprised at how nice and helpful the staff were here. I'm a lifelong cyclist so I know some bike shops have a funny condescending vibe but there's none of that here. The young man who helped me was smart, knowledgable, friendly, and replaced my inner tube at a very reasonable price, in record time to boot. Even asked what PSI I wanted it pumped up to & offered some suggestions for a more durable tire to help me avoid future punctures. Offered some kind help on local bike paths too. Highly recommended.
