When back problems started to make it painful to ride my bicycle, I went to Pedal Movement for help. The first solution of handle bar extenders wasn't quite right. I was afraid I would have to pay for them anyway; but instead, they found a different solution -- new handlebars that would allow me to ride more upright. Took my bike in for a break change and installation of flat protection.. Took over 23 days to get my bike back. They never installed the tube protectors. I was called to pickup my bike but when I arrived I still had to wait another hour and a half. I wasn't changed for the labor but I'll never go back. Waste of my time.. read more

I was leaving for EDC Las Vegas ,and needed my chain tightened. It was 10 min to 6pm when I called and spoke to Justin. Although they close at 6pm, he told me to come down. It was 615 by the time I rode to the shop. Justin not only stayed after he was off, he tightened up my chain, brake, and my back tire. Awsome to know there are kind people in the world. Wanted to get my bike tuned up so I figure I'd go here. Went here in the past, but not recently. I walked in with my bike and stood at the counter for 5 minutes. The guy in the back just ignored me, came to the counter and wrote something down, and continued to ignore me. Finally I asked if there was anyone who could help me. He replied, "not with that attitude." I said said "thank you" and was off. Now, not sure what this guy's problem was or what he perceived to be an attitude, but I did or said nothing offensive. Man,I hate this fucking place!! Every time I deal with them, I get a bunch of hipster attitude. The one time I used their services, I asked them to do a tune-up to my then boyfriends now husband's bike. I made sure to tell them that it wasn't my bike and that I needed them to call me when they had finished it. Long story short, less than 30 days and no calls to me later, they sold his bike and didn't even apologize or attempt to make anything right. Had I had concrete evidence of what happened, I would have taken them to court. Recently, husband took his bike over there to get it licensed after buying it on craigslist, and they told him they couldn't license it without a receipt! Get the fuck out of here, the fire dept doesn't even require that. It's a shame that these losers taint the growing bike community in Long Beach. Long Beach aims to be the most bike friendly city in the country, but until they make the people in the industry more accessible, its going to be a hard road to hoe. read more

WARNING: DO NOT SPEND YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY GOING TO THESE GUYS!!!!!! If you just need air in your wheels - go ahead - cause that's all these guys know how to do! I came in at 9 am with my (expensive) European bike because I needed air in my wheels - my tubes are not american and I thought a bike shop would deal with situations like these all the time. The guy in the store was looking at my bike like it was a zebra - he had really never seen a bike like mine (which is a very!! normal European bike). We asked him if he could pump the wheels - which he tried to do in all kinds of ways. No luck! He said I would need new tubes - I guess he was annoyed cause he didn't even offer us to replace them. A guy came in with his bike right as we finished our conversation and I was standing there with a flat bike. The representative started to engage in conversation with the new customer and we felt like we were just left right there with no solution. We discussed for a few minutes outside whether we should go to another bike store at 11 (because it really looked like this guy had no clue) but we had plans for the day and just wanted to get going. So we decided to let him change them. We waited for 15 minutes before he even acknowledged us standing there. We asked him how much two new tubes would be - $25 and it should only take 10 minutes.......... 45 minutes later we're still waiting for this guy to assemble my bike again. It was a very terrifying experience and a few times I was sure that I would need a new bike after this guy's handling. He really had no clue what he was doing!!! So points for him for finally finishing after 50 minutes, taken into consideration that he had never seen anything like it. Here I want to let you know that I did offer to take the bike to another place with more experience in European bikes but he didn't even respond to that. THEN!! Finally done and out. 10 seconds down the street my bike locks!! He forgot to screw back a part for the brakes on the back so my brakes was completely locking my wheels. I almost fell off my bike. Again, he didn't even acknowledge that we came into the store. I told him right away what was the problem but it took him 1 minute to 'check' the bike to see that it was the part that I had already pointed out that was the problem. THEN!! Finally out - again. 20 minutes away my front wheel is flat.. Completely flat. At this point we were just SO over dealing with these guys. We went to the nearest bike store where a sweet girl pumped my front wheel and advised us to go back for a replacement of the tube - she said that they should replace it for free since a brand new tube should not be flat after 20 minutes. SOOOOOO.. We drive all the way back to this place of horror. The guy who had helped us earlier was deeply engaged in the customer mentioned earlier and didn't even acknowledge our presence. Good for him that a co-worker had just arrived. He greeted us and asked what he could do for us. At this point I was just super annoyed that we had spent 1 1/2 hour and $25 for a flat wheel so I told him the story - but as I should have known - no understanding at all. "Our guaranty ends when you leave the door".... Sorry???? When you leave the door?? What kind of guaranty is that???? Should I just drive around on my bike in your store then?? Most products are used AFTER they leave the store as far as I'm concerned. Even though that may be their (weird) policy I had hoped for some understanding and pride enough in their work that they would just replace it - but NO! This guy (Eric) started to get very disrespectful and was talking to us like we didn't know anything about bikes. I grew up on my bike in Europe and have NEVER had a punctured wheel in my whole life. What a coincidence that my front wheel is flat 20 minutes after leaving their store. Eric could not see what was so weird - I could have been running over EVERYTHING - glass, rocks, animals. I assured him that I am very careful what I run over but nothing could change his mind. "It is out policy" he kept on saying. At this point my husband was so annoyed that him and Eric started arguing - which was unnecessary but that's what happened. I won't defend what my husband said or did but he was not near as offending and disrespectful as Eric - the customer service representative. Among other things Eric told us to "get an education" (we both do!!) and said he was "gonna call the police so they can beat your ass up". Before we left the store he flipped us off - WHAT!!!! Never in my life have I ever been flipped off from a representative. This guy must not care about his job because he gave us the WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE IN OUR LIVES!!! I didn't have the same experience that my fellow yelpers have had at Bikestation. This morning I walked into a shop empty of customers, and was chatting with an older gentleman about the services they provide. I was ready to ask about repairs (my brakes are missing an adjustment screw - hard part to find), when a women walked into the shop. The guy talking to me immediately turned and asked her how he could help her. Then he walked over to her, leaving me hanging. He didn't ask me if I had other questions. He didn't ask me if I was okay. I felt dismissed - lady I am through with you. I decided to wait a few minutes at the counter to see if he would come back. No luck. So I left. This was pretty much the same attitude they displayed the first time I checked them out about a year ago. Silly me! I thought, based on all those glowing reviews that they might have changed. I know they provide good services, especially bike parking, but I won't be back and cannot recommend this place. read more

Now that I'm no longer commuting to Los Angeles every day, I'm not using the Bike Station much, but when I did, it was well worth the price of admission... which is free (for now. they should be charging.) during regular hours. Things you need to know about Bikestation. * A good, safe place to keep your bike. Beats locking it to a tree or light pole * The guys know their stuff about bikes. I'm not sure what kind of parts they have on hand, so you may not get same day service, but they seem to always be tweaking on the bikes of waiting customers when I go there. * Don't go for the warm and fuzzies. Dominic and the boys are no -nonsense, good at what they do, but not exactly Chatty Kathies. * Active in the Long Beach community, trying to make the LBC better and safer for riders. * They're friends with Russ Roca, which is like being next to bike-godliness I think. If you don't know, you better ask somebody. Long story short, if you're going downtown during the day, take the bike, stash it at Bikestation and have yourself a good time, but remember to pick it up by 6:00 or you'll be in bike-jail for the night. read more

After inheriting an old Univega Bicycle with a bent rim that needed replacing and not knowing where to take it to I asked the professionals. My Coworkers @ Trader Joes and my fellow Yelpers! They all said, "Go"Go to the bikestaion in Long Beach." I arrived feeling anxious with my bent bike and Travis, the wonderful man who works there reassured me that all we needed was to replace the rim. He racked up my bike then showed me the correct rim that would fit, The rim only cost ed 45.00 and for labor, only Ten Bucks! He told me it would only take about a 1/2 hour so my boyfriend and I went and had lunch nearby. When we came back Travis looked disappointed and told us that the "new" rim looked like it had been used before but it was not damaged and all it needed was a quick lubing up. Also my old tube didn't fit with the new rim so he threw in a free tube for my troubles. He then cleaned the chain, greased the gears and tested out the shifters, and gave my bike a clean bill of health. When it came time to pay it was only $45.00. He told me he knocked 10.00 off the rim Gave me a free Tube... and Gave my boyfriend and I two free Chocolate Power bars since we had to wait once we came back. If you need your bike fixed or need to learn how to change a tube in your bike this is the place to go. Their "PATIENT" & "KNOWLEDGEABLE" staff go the extremes to make sure you leaving feeling satisfied and your bike ready for the road. Since I'm completely naive about bike repair I would come back to this place since you can use their tools for FREE and they'll even take the time to show you how to work on your bike. read more

I just recently discovered this gold mine and now understand why I never found it without the aid of google maps. Its location is convenient in nature, given that it's located at the transit station on 1st street. Somewhat inconvenient though b/c 1st happens to be a "buses only" driving zone in the downtown area. In other words, its best to find the bike station on foot or bike. I dropped by for some minor adjustments on my bike, the guys were really genuine and helpful (not arrogant) - first good sign. For future repairs, they even offered me the option to bring my bike in and use their tools free of charge - cool! The bike station opens at 7am, which can be extremely helpful if you're looking to beat the crowds. Their prices seemed very fair and my ride was ready in a couple hours. Services offered: - Bike rentals (not just beach cruisers) - Bike parking (FREE during business hours, fee otherwise) - Bike repairs (i tried this today - satisfied customer) - Bike(s) and accessories/parts sales (i'll def. be back) This is just one of those places that brings a smile to my face, knowing that i live in a city that cares about bicyclists and clean public transportation. read more

I brought my bike in to get tuned up - they have two levels of tune ups the basic for $30 and the works for $60. My bike hasn't been cleaned since I moved out here two years ago, and i ride everywhere... including the sandy beach. I dropped it off at 7am and got it back later that day $30 dollars later it's looking like a brand new bike! Highly recommend the guys at bikestation, very friendly and helpful. A bike shop that happily sends you elsewhere if they don't have a part A bike shop that happily will help you repair your bike at no cost! Or just as happily will fix it for you if you don't have time. At a reasonable cost. Storage to leave your bike for a while if you need to. Then there are all the membership benefits. I went in and asked: "can you help me fix my bike?" Said Dominic the Manager: "sure" Then he helped me replace all the cables, change out the lower bracket and the cassette. I got to do all the work, he just pointed and gave directions (and helped once in a while) I didn't even know what a cassette was when I walked in. Cost to me for instruction and oversight: FREE! After researching the many places you can rent bikes in this town, I decided on Bikestation for a few reasons. 1. Great customer service (they had to sit through two phone calls of my endless questions 2. Selection ... I didn't want a beach cruiser (though they have those) and they have a variety of bikes to choice from. 3. Great prices. Of course, they had me at 1 ... My rental was an older hybrid which was perfect for a beach/city combo ride. They even swapped seats for me as I'm not a fan of the big cushy seats - bonus. I was given some great directions about how to get around. All the guys were awesome, I worked with Will the day of my rental and he really helped get me check out & on my way. My cheap Walmart bike somehow managed to last me ten months before the first repair was needed. Having been years since I owned a bike, I really had no knowledge of self-repairs or bike shops in the area I could take it into. I pass through the Long Beach transit mall almost daily, and it occurred to me I should haul it into Bikestation and see what they could do. A total of twenty minutes later, and the very nice man there to help me had not only managed to retrieve my air valve from sinking into the wheel frame, but he also did a couple of adjustments to the back tire before handing it off to me. When I asked how much that would be? FREE. I dropped off what I had on me into their tip jar, issued a million thanks and was back on the road in no time with a bike that rode smoother than ever! I have been parking my bike here for close to a year now and love it. I work just off the Blue Line in South LA, but living about a mile from the closest station had previously made taking the Metro a little bit too involved (taking a Bike on the Blue Line is not fun). With it's indoor bike parking with electronic key entry, the Bikestation has simplified my commute and saved me a ton of gas money. $20/year membership + $12/month parking pass + Metro fare is much less than a tank of gas/week + traffic stress. I've also had my bike tuned up and repaired a couple times here, and the technicians are always straightforward and helpful. I highly recommend this place. read more

On the one hand, I feel like it's hard for me to criticize something that's free. But on the other hand, I have a duty to my fellow Yelp users to honestly share my experiences! So here it goes. My partner and I rode our bikes down to the Long Beach Grand Prix this year (since parking is always miserable), and due to proximity, I figured this would be a perfect time to try out the Bikestation. I'd read the reviews, but I still didn't feel like I knew quite what to expect. All in all, everything went fine, but it left a little bit to be desired. So, all we needed was a place to store our bikes safely, since they are not allowed in the Grand Prix grounds. Bikestation offers free bike parking during their normal open hours, we we headed over there and walked our bikes in through the main door. We were helped right away when we came in by one of their staff. Once we asked to store our bikes there, he wheeled them over to one of the walls and leaned them up against some other bikes that were already there. Then the guy at the desk asked for our names, and seemed to type in the make and color of each of the bikes into his computer. They told us that they closed at 5:00 that day and that storage was free for the day or for a fee for overnight. He also gave us some bike maps, which was cool. I wasn't all about having my bike leaned up against other bikes, honestly. They have these cool racks on the walls, and I figured that our bikes would go up onto those. It just didn't feel very secure. Also, I wish I would have had the chance to lock my u-lock to my frame and back wheel so that no one could walk away with my bike and/or I could prove it was mine (since I have the key). I didn't really feel great about just leaving my name, and not showing ID or getting a ticket or something. I mean, you get a numbered ticket from a valet for your car... and at the dry cleaners...so getting one for my bike would have helped my peace of mind a lot. Anyway, we went off and enjoyed some car racing, then came back and got our bikes no problem. No one walked off with them or anything, so I'm probably just being over-anxious about it. And there's no better price for a bicycle valet than free, so they still get four stars out of me. read more

Bike Rental: This review is based on a bike rental. We rented a bike a few weeks ago from Wheel Fun down on the beach. I got a call from one of my friends that heard about our day and wanted to go out and do it with us. I was like GREAT! ...but we are not renting bikes from the same place again. Bikestation was easy to find and just around the block from their old location. The building looks really cool. We were greeted promptly and given a choice on bikes to rent. The bikes were all in good condition and were a pleasure to ride. They even offered us complementary bike locks so we could lock up if we decided to get off and get a bite to eat. A few minutes in the shop and we were out the door with bikes. Had a great day and if someone wants to go biking with us again, I will defiantly be heading back to Bikestation. It worked out to $30 for 2 bikes for around 3 hours, so I think it's $5 / hour, but they have complete pricing information on their site. read more

I am pretty surprised to see how many good reviews this location has, although I'm sure a lot of them are due to rentals rather than getting work done or having to interact with these people much. The attitude these guys have when dealing with people is by far enough to have me not interested in coming back, but even still, that's not my only complaint. I brought a tire in here on a Friday, was told they would replace the axle on it (which I brought in the new axle, just wanted them to put it on) and they'd give a call when they were done. Which was fine, and they did. When they called, around 2 I told them I would be in at 4, which they said was fine. They were closed. As you can see by the hours on here, they don't close till 6, apparently the guy wanted to enjoy his Friday evening. I called from 4-6 to no avail, no answer- nothing. Saturday, the guy who answered was awfully rude and obviously lied in saying they were just out on a short break, I didn't know short breaks were considered 2 hours?! But anyways, we went to go get my tire, but the axle that was originally on the bike was not given back to us. Again, I brought in the new axle, paid for them to put it on, there was no way they had a right to keep my old one. The guy just had no ideas and shooed me away to call back when the guy working Friday would be back. I eventually got a hold of manager and he checked it out. I got my axle back, but not without loads of excuses about what happened completely trying to avoid taking any fault or any responsibility in their rudeness and unprofessional behavior. read more

While in Long Beach, I upped & decided to Yelp a bike rental. Bikestation was one that popped up so I checked out the reviews and prices. All seemed well, so the four of us decided to give this place a try. Turns out this was the perfect time bc my car decided to give me some troubles. We dropped our car off at Firestone a few blocks ups and walked down to pick up our bikes. Royce was the friendly greeter at the door and assisted us with all of our biking needs Very nice guy. We gave him a bit of trouble between the four of us girls but he handled us with ease. The 3 guys were also the same three workers when we returned our bikes the next day. Was like walking into a place with friends the second time. We paid for the least expensive bikes but they didn't have enough so they upgraded two of them for us for free. Even though he could park his bike inside his work, he likes to go visit with the dudes every day before and after work, and they do the best fix-it jobs ever. His bike looks like new. One small drawback...it would be nice if they were open just a bit later, though not so nice for the employees. :) read more

Always stored my bike at bike station when I went to the farmers market on fridays cause it's faster and safer than locking my bike up (and it's free). More recently I've found they have good prices on the few items they do keep in stock and they also have a couple bike stands and a set of tools that they let people use to fix their bikes! I'd thought about heading out to othe bike kitchen in l.a. to work on my bike but we've got something just as good here in long beach. Let me start by staying, I have been a Long Beach resident for over 20 years. I have used Pedal Movement, formerly "The Bike Station" for as long as I have had my bike, which has been for over 5 years. Until recently, their customer service has been great. Two weeks ago, my tire blew out. I took my bike to be serviced. Due to the corona-virus, there was a sign on the door that stated, you have to make a phone call to schedule a appointment, however, when I arrived, the service woman spoke to me and offered to help without a appointment. I was told I needed a 26" tube, which they did not have and they said would take take over a week to order. Sounded strange to me since it's a very common product. It's like a Tire Shop being out of tires. They were dismissive and acted as if my business was not of value. So, I walked about 1.2 miles to another bike shop, which I will mention shortly. When I arrived, masks were required and social distancing practiced, didn't need a appointment. I waited outside to be helped. Not only did they have the tube, they laughed when I told them I was told it had to be ordered. I was told some non common parts are difficult to order, but tubes for tires are not on back order and can be purchased easily. They showed me their inventory, fully stocked. Again, "bikes need tires, we are stocked with tires" I was told. My bike was fixed within a hour. Today, my bike chain broke, went to Pedal Movement, wanted to give them another shot. Maybe my issue previously was a one off. Before I arrived, I tried to call several times for appointment and was hung up on. However, I figured, maybe they would still be able to assist me. I was wrong. I am completely aware of the coronavirus situation and how it is affecting businesses in our community, however, all that was needed from the salesperson was compassion, act like your care and work with me to a common solution. I was told "You need to call corporate offices if you were hung up on, I can't help you", I was told rudely. The salesperson was rude and dismissive to helping me. Can you just act like you care? Words were exchanged, some I made I'm not proud of to be honest, but at the end of the day, he just didn't care (his hair was in a bun, mid 20's). I brought my bike back to "Bike Your Way" on 1906 E 4th Street Long Beach, CA 562-336-1423 . They not only assisted me, they were helpful, fun, engaging and worked with me (fully staffed, wearing masks and social distancing). Bike fixed and I even bought a bike from them for my friend. Bottom line, Pedal Movement feels they have so much business, you aren't important to them. Its a shame, because I was a fan. Walk or ride 1.2 miles to Bike Your Way, they will take care of you. I will never go back to Pedal Movement and they are 2 blocks from my home. If you have issues with staffing during the highest rate of unemployment since the great depression, that says something about your business. If you can't service your customers effectively, efficiently where am I with good customer service, then, don't open your doors. Hope this helps. I don't like to write bad reviews, but I gave them two chances, I won't give a third. There are waaaaay too many other options in here in Long Beach. I'm sure management will counter my review, but I was fair and honest even admitting my own faults. There is no excuse for not being kind in a service industry. I happened upon the "Bike Valet" at Friday Downtown Farmer's Market. I parked my bike with them for no fee, and got a free safety check. The safety check was beyond my expectations. This was a great service to the working class. Next I flipped my bike which I'm using for transportation, and I derailed the gear shifts, completely. The bike was bought cheap and it was not equiped with factory gears, but they were working, before I ate it. I returning to none other than the bike valet and purchased a $50 tune-up. They went above and beyond to make the gears all work despite having destroyed the main gear and the both not being original parts - they made it work. I brought a Schwinn Sidewinder to the in pieces and the fixed it right up good enough for a min. 8 mile per day commute. A killer team that seeks to promote more biking for life and the positive changes that life change brings. You should really check 'em out at one of the farmer's markets. Since my original visit Bikestation has moved from its little building on Ocean to Broadway, just W of Long Beach Blvd (which would have been good to know the time I decided to bike there and spent an hour or two riding around, completely lost). In addition, it has moved out of the nonprofit sector and is a for-profit company now, voted one of BusinessWeek's top social entrepreneurs of 2010. Fortunately, that hasn't stopped it from providing wonderful services at an unbeatable price. One guy there,Travis, has on several occasions gone far above what was expected and helped me fine-tune my bike to make it accommodate me perfectly. The great think about this institution is that it's full of people who are really passionate about cycling and sharing that enthusiasm with the community. It may look different from when I first came here a few years ago, but its heart is in the same place and it's still keeping Long Beach pumping. Or pedaling. Now is the perfect time to go support this awesome local business. Aside: some quick research shows that funds were allocated just last week to build a huge new facility for Bikestation downtown with showers and way more parking spaces! I was incredibly impressed by the responsiveness, value, customer service, competence, and quality of this bike shop. I rented a bike from them for a few days to ride down to San Diego. They provided great advice and were just amazing in every way. I would highly recommend them to anyone look g to rent a bike or for service. Good selection too! read more

How can this be any less than a 5 star review? It can't. Hubby's chain was having issues and constantly falling off. After close inspection we find that one of the links is actually broken on one side. It's Saturday at 4 and we'd love to be able to ride the bike the rest of the weekend. We peddle (slowly, due to chain) on over to Bikestation. There's a short wait and then the guy (Jason, I think) asks what's up, and then begins on the bike. He tells us the chain will be $9 "Is that OK?". He thought he could just use a link from another for free but realizes he has to charge us. He seems so concerned, it's just so refreshing. Chain replaced, plus a bottle water, $11 total. What a great service. We tried to tip but they couldn't add it to Visa so he just asked that we come back AND WE WILL!! Highly recommended. read more

What a concept! I was on vacation and feeling sad that I was unable to fit my bicycle into my carry on luggage. The bike paths on the beach are incredible. I walked over from the hotel and rented a bike for three hours. The place was clean and the rental bikes were new. The staff was friendly and spent time pointing out the best routes on the map. The coolest thing was that commuters were coming in and dropping off their bikes for storage and catching the bus just outside the door for their commute to work. Wake up, Fort Lauderdale! read more

I had always passed by this bike shop when i was taking the train, or the bus. its in a really cool area where all the buses meet, and in a niche spot right in the middle of downtown Long Beach... I have my own bike but my friends from out of town didnt, they wanted a tour of downtown, and i figured it would be easier to take the bus into downtown and rent them a few bikes... the service was great, the bikes were available and they were nice bikes. Went to Bike station today, they are awesome! I walked in, well rode in, and said, "I think I need a tune up." They checked it out and said, "nope, just have to adjust a few things." How cool is that? They could have totally charged me for a tune up and I would have had no idea... They kept my bike, I went and got a coffee at Starbucks across the street and had my bike back 30 minutes later. Awesome. The ride home was great, my bike rides brilliantly. Decided to bring my husband's bike here during the week to fix a flat tire after reading the Bikestation's good reviews on Yelp. There was only one employee working and he had the tire fixed in the time it took us to walk around the block. $12. As my husband was riding home, the bike wouldn't stay in gear. Something got tweeked when the tire was put back on obviously. So the next day we took it back and the bike tech realized what the problem was and fixed it in 1 minute and now the bike actually rides better than it ever has. read more

Great service! I walked by today and found their new, temporary location on Broadway. The middle-aged guy working there enthusiastically showed me their bike rentals, which are also for sale, and their secure bike parking. He encouraged me to take a test ride on a few bikes and was happy to point me to the cheaper ones without any attempt at upselling (he said a 3-speed internal hub was plenty for anywhere in town short of Signal Hill), and he knew most of the details about the frames and components. Clearly, this man enjoyed his job, and was happy to help out a customer who was new to the field. I will let you know how things go if l end up buying from them, and I plan to go there for service and parking in the future. This place is a great deal. read more

Very cool idea. This is a great way to hit as many spots in Downtown Long Beach in the shortest amount of time. Parking can be a challenge, and some of the best spots are spread out to where you may not want to walk. There is no fee to park a bike. As someone who doesn't frequent the area often, this seemed like the best way to get familiar with the terrain. Heads up: all of the bikes they rent out are coaster bikes. This means that all bikes have only one gear (ascending hills produces sweat) and that you will need to press backwards on your pedals to activate brakes (stay alert). Rented a bike for a couple of hours and cruised around the venues, streets and the beach. My only regret is that I went close to their closing hours, so I only had enough time to venture throughout the Downtown area and get some cinematic/ photographic views of the bay while cruising along the boardwalk. I think the fun lasted two hours, then I had to return. The guy behind the register was patient enough to let us get a feel for the bikes outside. They are all pretty much the same, but you want to take the gamble with the fewest risks. Returned the bikes a few minutes late and the guy was cool enough to let it slide. I wish more cities offered this type of service. I'll use it again. read more

I've had this bike rack for about... 5 months. Never managed to put it on my bike, and then I lost the hardware. Bikestation put on the rack, adjusted my rear brake, and trued my rear wheel in about an hour. Reasonably priced and it's super nice to know that my bike's in good shape again! read more

I don't know bikes, but I promised to help my brother get one of his bikes repaired. While this shop is inconveniently located for anyone bringing in a bike that can't be ridden or even really wheeled to the store, the service here is great. These guys aren't snobs: please, people who ride bikes aren't necessarily all riding fancy specialty bikes that weigh less than a smart phone :D My bro had a bike that had some kind of accident and it required a new wheel, tire, & tube. It wasn't a fancy bike, although it was pretty new, and they just took it in and told me what needed to happen to get it working again. They ordered a tire of comparable value and I even got back to my car before my 24-minute meter expired. The location and layout of the store with upstairs parking and central to Long Beach buses, trains, & taxis with large maps of where in LA and Long Beach you could bike instead of drive inspired me to consider a nice outing all over town with a friend, two bikes, and lots of sunshine. Ok, I know the name is generic, so lookout for a building that looks like it stores bikes and has vertical orange stripe-like items. It faces the section of 1st Street where you can't drive your car. The staff are very helpful giving you directions by phone if the downtown sections of Long Beach with the one-way streets and metered parking are less familiar to you. read more

I brought my unicycle in.. I bought online and installed myself. I brought it in so they touch up my installatiion. I was helped by Dylan and Jake. They were very awesome. They also did not charge because it took them 10 minutes to install. Also Jake asked me to ride it because he has installed many unicycles and has never seen a customer ride it. lol. I could not at the time because I am still learning. In exchange for their great service and deal, I will bring in my other bikes. The customer service is horrible. Don't go!! This morning my family (children ages 10 and 12 and boyfriend) and I decided to go on a bike ride. We love doing this together. We opted not to go to Wheels for Fun. The big baskets on the front with the huge signs are a bit dorky and we didn't want to look like tourists. We headed into the shop bright, chipper and with smiles. I even cracked a joke or two. All was met with a thud. The guy behind the counter looked at us like he didn't even want us to enter the store. No good morning, no smile, no witty or funny retort. The guy behind the counter grabbed our bikes. After signing our waivers he informed us that is would be a $600 deposit. WTF!! Thats more than it costs to rent a car. He explained that the tires alone cost $200. I don't care. I didn't want to buy it, only ride it for a few hours. To add to matters, he practically threw us the keys to the locks with no explanation on how to use them or which went with each. He didn't offer to adjust the seats or bother to say have a nice time! Next time we are going to Alfredos. Between the $600 deposit and the horrible service its not worth it!! read more
