We got the braised short rib, which is seen in the picture. We also got the bruschetta for the appetizer, which was a little bit on the expensive side. The reason I gave it two stars is because the service was so slow. It took the servers a very long time to get us food or even take our order. It took even longer to get the food to us. We were one of only a few tables that were occupied. + Maple pecan old fashioned ($12) - best cocktail I had + Enchanted Spice ($13) - an older menu was in included in the menu I received. This was a "drink of the month." It was okay. + Two-person charcuterie board ($24) + Chicken noodle soup ($5) + Scallop sauté ($32) - I enjoyed this paired with the Texas caviar fried rice + "Aftershock" ($8) - we were real fans of the ice cream, but the cookie was good (too spicy for my kiddos. I would give 4.5 stars if I could. We easily found close parking and enjoyed seeing the lovely lobby of the hotel complete with fresh flowers. The door of the restaurant is very nice and upscale. We were promptly greeted and seated, and our server arrived right away. Did you know that some of the staff here are students in the hospitality program at Tech. Our one disappointment of our meal was that we immersed ordered a grilled cheese for the toddler who was dining with us, but her food was not delivered until the grown up meals came. We chose Pecan Grill after a Google search of "best restaurants in Lubbock, TX". TripAdvisor gave them an award in 2022 for just that and we happily made plans. We were promised a short wait for our table and the friendly hostess didn't disappoint. Our server was friendly, probably newer to the restaurant (she didn't understand the question "What is medium here?" when we were ordering our ribeye, but at least she seemed to make good recommendations, or so we thought. Appetizers were disappointing. Watermelon caprese pieces were way too small, maybe marble sized. And the watermelon in the watermelon caprese tasted like it was turning sour, but they were so small I chose to overlook it, thinking it was a one off. The smoked steak Oscar was supposedly ordered and loved by two patrons before us. I was not impressed by the flavor or texture combination at all, but we ate it, all 3 pieces for the 4 of us for fear of the entrees being miniature after seeing the appetizers. To make things even worse, unfortunately, 2 of our 3 entrees weren't very good either. The Shrimp with Linguine was supposed to be shared between me and my youngest. But it had an unpleasant taste - similar to vinegar or a not very good, turned white wine, no hint of any other taste, and my son refused to eat it. Totally not like him to not eat a shrimp pasta dish, but I wouldn't eat it either because he was right, it tasted "funny". We also ordered the ribeye medium and were promised a "hot pink center" - perfect, we thought. Keep in mind that my husband worked at a steakhouse when we met and knows his steak. Sadly, the steak came out overcooked (hardly any pink throughout, see photos). It was late and just past our kids' bedtimes already, and we needed to get up early to get them to their competition. Our shrimp pasta dish was bad, but we didn't think we had time to order any replacement meals, so my husband offered half of his meal to my son and me. Reluctantly, we decided to choke down the tough-to-cut steak. When the manager came to address the shrimp dish, we mentioned the steak amd showed it to him and he apologized for both, seeming to indicate that he would remove both from our bill. It turns out he was only willing to remove the pasta and we were left to pay for our overcooked $44 ribeye. The great news is that the staff were all friendly and the ambiance was nice as well (hence the 1 star). The one entree that wasn't bad was the Tuscan chicken dish, while not bad, was not impressive either. But my teenager wanted his protein intake for his early competition so he ate most of it. Be assured that we will not be returning here or referring it to anyone either, because the MAIN reason to go to a restaurant is for the food and we feel there are better places to eat and especially to spend $130 on dinner. read more

I've been pleasantly surprised on both occasions, when I've dined and had drinks at the Pecan located in the lobby of the Overton Hotel and Conference Center. It's a little pricy but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." I've been impressed with the food quality. My most recent visit I had the Pecan Burger. I asked for it medium rare and it was.... I love when that happens. The patty was huge, juicy and delicious. The cheddar, jalapeño bun, and veggies were fresh and complimented the patty well. The fries, which are more like wedges, were excellent, I just wish they gave you more. I also ordered the chicken and rice soup. It didn't look like much but tasted homemade. My previous visited included a sandwich. I've since forgotten what kind of sandwich it was but remember enjoying it, along with the clam chowder soup. Employees are friendly and ambiance is great at the bar, dining room, and outside patio. When the weather permits, I would definitely take advantage of the outdoor area. read more

Our waiter was a younger male and was about the rudest person I have ever met. We had to get our own silverware and he never came to see if we needed anything. The restaurant was very slow and we were only one of four tables. Our meal took about 2 hours from start to finish. We waited an hour for our entree. A waitress noticed us waiting and asked if we were waiting on our dessert! I told her that we were still waiting on our meal! We got the meal for two people that had the steak, some pasta dish, beans/greens, and ice cream. The steak was good, but the pasta was so dried out and the beans and greens were literally cold canned beans and spinach. There was no flavor. The ice cream was so freezer burnt and barely even edible. It was honestly disgusting. I was so disappointed. We spent $200 on a very mediocre meal. Terrible terrible terrible service tonight. The issue that had occurred tonight could have been handled way more professionally by the restaurant manager on duty. Three of us ordered to go. The server offered to send our food up as room service with no extra charge, which we gladly agreed to. She informed us she needed a manager to help her void the service charges and that she would be right back. Unfortunately, we were left waiting around for an hour for our receipts, however, The female manager on duty said she watched us when we came in, and insinuated that we were lying. To be more accurate on the actual time it was 54 minutes. She then informed us the time our tickets were actually put in, which just validated that our server had forgotten to put the order in. People in our group who decided to dine in had ordered 20- 30 minutes after we did and received their food in a timely manner. Our credit cards were taken for payment and held for over 30 minutes. Which is always unacceptable. There's was no communication to what was going on and why. Our server apologized for the mistake and situation, which we appreciated, but it would have been nice for the manager to empathize, listen, fix the situation, and have a genuine apology as well. We are staying at the hotel and have show tickets for the following day. He said his manager told him it's the policy. So, I asked to speak with the manager, and he confessed that it's actually him. WHAT A COWARD! The advertisements around the hotel say nothing about offer only valid on the day of your tickets. Even after pointing this out, he still would not honor it. This is an ok hotel restaurant. Not over priced like most places. The basic brunch is $12 and the buffet brunch is $19 and includes the basic items as well. The basic brunch is ok. The eggs look like that fake foam bubbly stuff but the bacon, sausage, fruit, oatmeal, waffles, etc are decent. The seating at the tables is comfy and there's plenty of space for large groups. The decor is a cute Texas theme fitting to west Texas. Service is absolutely horrible. It takes a while to get dirty plates removed and even longer to get a water refilled. For breakfast you'll wait 20-30 minutes for a table of two because they don't bus tables quick enough. Overall a decent place to eat breakfast. Prices aren't horrible and the food is ok. Everything was excellent!! The restaurant smells like a pecan pie candle. Very comforting and homey atmosphere. Service was fast and friendly! We started with the kettle chips and warm blue cheese dip. 5 out of 5 stars on that! The prime rib chicken fried steak was a huge platter! Major comfort food and no problem substituting mashed potatoes for home fries. BLT was plenty stuffed and choose from several different sides. Meh. Super disappointing experience all around. This was my first stop on my week long trip to Lubbock. I ordered the "smoked" deviled eggs and the Texas Bourbon Wings. I was expecting to be wowed by the deviled eggs, since they are a signature dish. They were extremely bland and the bacon Jam was the only part that was supposedly smoked. At $9 for 4 deviled eggs. Went for Thanksgiving dinner after numerous recommendations. Quite possibly the worst service and food I have ever had. It look 30+ to be acknowledged by our server. We were never offered any drinks other than water. Other patrons were served hot rolls, but we didn't get ours until we had already spoken to the manager, and then we weren't given any butter. We waited 90 minutes for our meal, and when it was served it was inedible. The turkey was burned, and brittle; stuffing had large chunks of very dried bread that couldn't be chewed; green beans were cold and mushy; potatoes were like wall paper paste. The only edible part of the dinner was the cranberry sauce. Kobe (a shining light in our evening) attempted to bring us dinner off of the regular menu, but it was just as bad. We finally gave up and went home after 2 hours without having our turkey, and very disappointed. Our server was absent for most of our evening. I did request to speak with Kobe's (the manager of the restaurant) general manager who was working that evening, and he never came to speak with us. Overall, the evening was an epic fail, but I have to give props to Kobe. He recognized the the horrendous food, and did everything he could do to fix it. I wish his manager was as visible and helpful as he was. You've got a star with Kobe...too bad you can't clone him! I would welcome communication from the powers that be! read more

This is a very nice looking restaurant. The ambiance is good but tonight was a down night for this place. The wait staff was very nice but since it was 5ish it seems they were required to do other things besides take care of patrons. They were running around but not always to tables. I order the lobster fritters which were ok but the they seemed a little dry and over cooked. Not tasty enough to want to order again. My entree was a medium rare ribeye with Crab Oscar. Well it came out with out the Crab but I told them not to bother since it took so long to get food. As I cut into the steak it was medium well with almost no pink. I would have still ate it but it was so bland and the meat looked gray with nice heavy grill marks. I told the manager about the steak and he took it back. When my new steak arrived it did have the Crab Oscar. The steak was properly cook but still low in flavor for a steak of this caliber. The crab was good and thankfully had a nice flavor. The sauce though was overly lemony and took away from the food. The green beans I had were well seasoned and tasty and the second plate had warm broccolini this time. No one was impressed with t their entrees but the Cessar salad got good reviews along with the Brussels sprouts and potatoes. When the bill came, they charged me full fair for the steak and the crab and no apology on the ticket. So I would suggest looking to other venues if you are visiting Lubbock. read more

Parents came in to visit and we went here for dinner. VERY below average. Prices are a bit ridiculous and you could totally tell and taste that the food wasn't fresh and just heated up. My brother ordered a 10oz steak and when it came out it was absolutely not 10oz. It was tiny and looked like they thinned it to be half of a steak. The service was not good and awkward. Don't set foot in this restaurant anywhere near Valentine's Day. They will spring a $70 per diner prix fixe menu on you once you're already seated. (A prix fixe menu is one with a set price, from which one must order every course from an abbreviated list.) I called to make a reservation on Feb 11 for the following day. They made no mention of the special menu. An email confirmation of the reservation also did not mention it, nor did the hostess as I asked to be seated. Only after my date and I were seated and the server approached was the menu mentioned. This was a *first date.* Obviously this made her uncomfortable, and although I was annoyed, there was no graceful way to back out at that point. The charcuterie board was half overripe fruit. The salads were wilted. Entrees were fine. The dessert was overripe chocolate covered strawberries. The meal would have been a poor value at half the price. In a more relaxed social situation I would not have eaten most of the food, as it should have been thrown away at least a day before. I won't return. read more

I ate here with my grandparents on a Sunday night. We arrived around 6:20 p.m. and to start off they took forever to bring us water which was warm with no ice. As more people were seated I noticed their water had ice, so I'm guessing our pitcher was sitting there for a minute. We looked it over and it took at least 30 minutes for our wine order to be taken, and another 15 to let us know they didn't have that wine. Prices were extremely high. The sides were exquisite and so good. Two people at our table ordered the 12 oz. ribeye medium-rare, and when we finally got our food after an hour, they were definitely underweight closer to 10 or 9 oz. One steak was definitely medium-rare where the other was probably medium-well. The restroom was not well kept and very dirty. As we were leaving, we noticed so many parties waiting to be seated which was unfortunate because I knew they closed in 45 minutes. I've eaten at the Overton many times. I've enjoyed mostly everything I've eaten. The smoked Gouda bacon Mac n cheese is decadent. The breakfast skillet is probably my favorite. Two eggs over brisket with potatoes onions and mushrooms and covered in cheese. But what made me decide to write to review was specifically their potatoes in their breakfast dishes. They are always cooked just right. I've never found that uncooked piece of potato that often happens with breakfast potatoes. They have been tender every time but don't fall apart. As an at home cook I had to give them kudos because as simple as this sounds it's difficult to get a breakfast potato "just right" but they've mastered it. I haven't been disappointed by anything in the menu although I wasn't a fan of the tomato grits with chorizo, the sausage was a little too spicy for my taste . Maybe it's the southern purist in me. But the fried green tomato on top was good. I highly recommend. I've had the burger and deviled eggs and I still plan to have the peaches and cream French toast.
