In previous years we have had reasonably good service from this location, good enough to give them our business every year, but 2013 brought problems for each of our 4 family members. For me, it was related to the eye exam. The prescription they wrote did not contain an important piece of information - the fact that I needed bifocals - it was in the file but not in the actual paper prescription they gave me when I said I would not be getting my actual frames from them because I didn't like any frames they had. The other vendor I used made single-vision glasses from the prescription, and then neither company wanted to take the blame when I got glasses that didn't work for me. Pearle Vision claimed that the other vendor "should have known" that they were bifocals, but JC Penney Optical said the prescription clearly did not say this. It took several tries to get this straightened out, and it cost me extra money to get the glasses I needed. Soon after, my younger daughter's frames cracked after she wore them less than a month. We got them replaced, and the new ones cracked after just a few weeks. Then my other daughter's frames cracked. Neither girl is careless, the frames were just crap. When we bought them, I asked the salesperson why they were on sale, and specifically if they were "cheap" frames. She responded that they were good frames that were being phased out. Well, that wasn't true. Later on after they cracked, a different salesperson told us that she wasn't surprised they had broken since they were cheap frames and what did we expect since we got them from the sales rack. (!!) To be fair, Pearle Vision did help me replace them with better frames, applying the price of the initial crappy pairs to the new ones and not charging me for the new lenses. I appreciated their assistance, but would have liked to have good glasses right from the start and not have to go through the process of getting them replaced. As far as my husband, he got new lenses for existing frames, and wanted to get a replacement piece of rubber on one side. We ordered it, and then waited and waited and waited and waited, calling and stopping by until they cringed when we showed up. Eventually, Pearle Vision gave him a new frame, which we appreciated. So... problem after problem after problem, but I do have to say that the staff was responsive to 3 out of the 4 problems (the eye doctor never did accept any responsibility for messing up my prescription and was quite rude to me - we will never go back to her again, they lost 4 customers there) and the Manager ultimately did his best to make this series of unfortunate events better. But... I wasted an enormous amount of time trying to get what I had paid for. No matter how good their reaction eventually was, we should not have had these multiple problems in the first place. I'm conflicted as to whether I will trust them with my business again... I do very much appreciate that they stepped in to fix the problems when I brought them to their attention. read more
