I LOVE PEARL NAILS. They are the one nail salon that is consistently amazing. I used to go to them every other week a few years back before I moved to Korea and they were a few doors down. I get my pedicure done quite regularly and try out new places frequently to see what I like. When I initially called, I was quoted $45 total for a gel pedicure and gel removal as my toes were painted already. I ended up being charged $50 m, $5 extra for a leg/foot massage that I thought was part of the service at the end as I had already declined the 50 minute massage she offered me. I felt cheated as I was apparently sold a service I didn't even know I had been offered. Second, the nail tech cut my cuticles so deeply on the sides of my bigger toes that they were throbbing all night while I slept and it physically hurts to wear my shoes today. I had to put Neosporin on it as it was swollen and red and I was afraid of getting an infection. On top of that, she mimicked me when I verbally expressed pain and did not apologize. The only reason why I'm giving 3 stars is because the actual paint job was decent and they took me as a walk in very quickly. However, that's not enough for me to come back here after the experience I had. read more

I have been coming here for year and I feel like its a hit or miss. I would say because the prices are cheaper than most nail salons you get what you pay for. Depending on which tech you get, sometimes they go a little too heavy with the manicure. I walked out feeling like I need to put a Band-Aid or some ointment on my fingers sometimes. But again, they are cheaper than most place. They do take walk ins, but making an appointment is easy and they almost always have room. They upgraded to a larger spot in the plaza since they first opened. They treat regulars really well from what I see (I do not go often enough for this and quite frankly I prefer if my tech doesn't talk to me). My girlfriend brought me here for Mother's Day as a treat for both of us. We were seen pretty quickly at our appointment time. The service was really good, so I came back about three weeks later and showed them a picture of a nail design that I really wanted. I wasn't sure they were going to be able to do it but they sent Hailey my way and girl, she was Confident as hell with a capital "C" in her skills. She knocked it out of the park with how professional, meticulous and talented she was. I only want her to do my nails from now on! The shop is always super busy, so reservations are recommended. The only two cons I can think of are: 1) They charge you a $1.00 fee to use your card to pay. I've said this many times before that it's their cost of doing business and shouldn't be absorbed by the customers as customers are already patronizing the business; 2) They charge $5.00 to remove gel polish, no matter what. I've been to shops that do not charge the gel removal if you are replacing it with another gel manicure, which I think is fair. I don't like the nickel and diming. Overall, still a very good shop but due to the credit card surcharge and mandatory $5.00 for gel removal, I will consider going to other shops. read more

So unfortunate. My nails have come out beautifully the few times I've come here. Last Thursday I came for gel x by Sunday one broke and another broke yesterday. I've gotten gel x at other places and they never broke. Again the pedis are mediocre. My two thumbs broke so I came to get them fixed last night and the lady who did them seemed bothered the whole time. I wanted to change my nail color and she looked at my nails and she said they look fine. So I could tell she didn't want to do it so I said never mind just please fix my broken nails. I wanted them cut shorter so she cut down my two thumbs nails. I changed my mind and asked to change the color. God forbid I changed my mind. I don't know how bad you have to be to mess up on gel manicure. JUST A BASIC GEL MANICURE and they can't do it. I chose a basic color and after TWO days only, the whole nail paint came off...it didn't even chip slowly or anything like how gel nails normally do. I came in on 10/5 Tuesday at 12pm with my friend and got the lady on table 2. My friend sat on table 3 and her nails were SUPER NICE AND FILED. First of all, the technician who did my friend's nails asked her "what shape do you want?" My technician DID NOT ASK ME. She was super rushed when she did my nails. She added THREE coats because she said my nails are wavy..... I think because she added 3 coats, it started to fall out in ONE piece after TWO days!!! I called them and drove 20 minutes for them to fix the one finger nail, which they did! (That's why I'm giving them another star because they fixed the finger for free) Even though the technician did not shape my entire nails, I was still happy because it looks okay from far away, plus I only paid $25 + $5 tip. 4 days now, another WHOLE PIECE is falling off like how the index finger did.... I normally go to this nail place in El Monte and THEIR GEL NAILS STAY ON FOR AT LEAST 1-2 months. If you come here for gel nails, it will stay on only for 2-4 days.... My go to nail salon because the pricing is great. I made an appointment for 7:15 pm and still had to wait for a technician to open up to work on my nails. They recently renovated and moved a couple of stores down in the Rosemead Square shopping center. The location is much more spacious and feels more modern than before. They did increase their pricing slightly but the price is still reasonable. It cost me $21 for a gel manicure and $18 for a regular pedicure. I was assisted by Sandy and Connie and they both did excellent jobs! They really pay attention to detail. I'm very indecisive when it comes to choosing my color and am always second guessing my choice but I'm always happy with the results when I leave the salon. read more

UPDATE: 4 days after my manicure with Pearl, the thumb that Nancy snipped is horrible infected. It's painful to the touch and pus has started to form. Their utensils are NOT CLEAN!! I've attached a picture for reference. The gel polish started chipping just 2 days after my manicure. This was just the worst possible manicure experience. Getting your nails done is supposed to be a relaxful, stress-free event. A time where you can just shut off the rest of the world and pamper yourself. At Pearl Nails, this is not a possibility. I've given this place three chances already because friends and family all give such rave reviews. Pearl just leaves me feeling bitter and unsatisfied as I walk out the door with a half done service. On the last (ever, no more chances) visit to Pearl, I made an appointment for the boy toy and I to spa day together and I chose Pearl because they have the big spa chairs for pedis. Boy toy only spa days with me two or three times a year so we need to spoil him with big comfy chairs. Just like the past two times, they completely overbooked their clients and still took walk-ins so they sat him in the only available chair and asked me to sit in a Mani table for my gel mani first. They promised me one of the chairs next to him once one became available. About 15min in, I watched as they filled the spa pedi tub and sat someone else to his left. And then 10min later they filled the one to his right and sat someone else. Completely forgetting about me. The client to the right of boy toy was carrying a baby so the entire store was focused on the baby. Nancy, my nail tech, ends up shipping my thumb as she stares stupidly at the baby while cutting my cuticles. It's a baby. Please focus on your job and not on the baby. As my Mani is near completion, the owner walks up to us and tells Nancy in Vietnamese that she can do my pedi and to use whatever chair opens up when she's done. She then tells Nancy to charge me $40 before she walks away. I tell Nancy that I won't be doing the pedi because I was promised the chair next to boy toy and instead it was given to two other people. Nancy calls the owner back over to let her know and the owner tells her to say that they both had appointments and to brush me off. Umm. Excuse me, but I also called ahead and made one for the both of us. We do spa days together because we want to be together. But also because they try to scam him into getting services he doesn't need. His $30 Mani/pedi turned into a $40 one because he added unnecessary add-ons that they pressured him into getting while I wasn't seated next to him. While paying, the nail tech up front tried to defect the blame again saying they had appointments. So I countered her telling her not to promise me a chair next to my boy toy once the next available one became available if they couldn't keep their word. Because I'd be expecting it. They can't just give my chair away because that client is holding a baby. I was clearly there first and had an appointment. Pearl is a ridiculous establishment. This was my first time at this shop and I was a little nervous at first because they were sooo packed. You know how sometimes you make an appointment, but still have to wait 30min to be seen? I made an appointment a couple of days prior for 12pm, and was seated by 12:15, so not too bad. What I really appreciated was their cleanliness. They have automated temperature screening and hand sanitizer devices for you to use when you check in. They also have separate clean and dirty pen cups when you're signing in (and I did see someone come clean the dirty pens w/ a chlorox wipe). They have plastic partitions separating each manicure station. The nail techs also sanitized the stations after each client. Everyone of course had a mask on, so overall, I felt very safe. On to the nails. I love my nails! Sandy was great, very personable and bubbly. I showed her a photo of what I wanted and she was able to replicate it to my liking. I appreciated the fact that she went over the pricing before she started, so I knew what I was paying for. After each step, she made sure to get my approval before moving on. I debated over a few days on whether or not I wanted to post about my most recent experience. All my other experiences with Pearl Nails were great and I never had any issues until a few days ago.. I came in for a gel manicure and made an appointment for 5:30. I waited for about 15 minutes and in that time, the owner was super nice and was helping me choose the right color just based off a photo I had. I told My (my manicurist) that I wanted round nails and these are for a wedding. It's like I wasn't clear, but she kept shaping them as almond and she had to fix it... but she only filed it down even more and it's still shaped more like almond/oval than round. Needless to say, my nails are beyond short now and I'm completely unhappy with the shape. The application of the polish was uneven, sloppy on the sides, and very clumpy (see photos). Everything about my recent experience was absolutely horrible and there's no fixing it because my nails are just SO SHORT. 1 star for My (avoiding her moving forward..), but still 5 stars for everyone else. read more

They finish with a cuticle oil so I always leave and my toes look great! I am apprehensive with getting pedicures done because in the past I ALWAYS end up getting ingrown toenail's on the sides because they usually cut that area and cut it wrong, but not here I never had to worry about leaving with ingrown after Ao I give them 10 stars if I could just for that alone. She was very attentive to details and even caught minor mistakes that I didn't even notice. When working with acrylics, she made sure it looked very natural (none of that thick, puffy mess!) They are efficient and they will get your nails done on time. However if you don't come here often I'd recommend you confirm the price of what you're getting upfront. I had called to ask and was quoted $24 for gel nails but after everything was done, my total was $34. I understood vietnamese and had overheard the manicurist asking the owner how much they should charge me and owner said an additional $10 for the glitter. So something to be aware because if it's your first time, you may feel you were treated unfairly because of the increased prices. Another reason for the 3 star is I noticed the manicurists quality of services really varies. A group of us got our nails done but one of our nails were already chipping and color deteriorating after a week whereas others are fine. We got the same designs too. So beware of who you get.
