They have been independently and family-owned for over 40 years, and they are a must-stop for all book and music lovers out there. This store is HUGE with over half-a-million books, movies, music and memorabilia. However, I think what makes them extra special is the curated selection of Horror and Thriller books, including some very unique collectibles. I am more into contemporary, so keep in mind those books are located on the top floor of their second building. Their children's book section was also incredible but frankly I didn't have the patience to go through them. This store can be a little overwhelming so definitely take a breath and ask for help if you can't find the genre you are looking for.

However, I don't know if we caught them on a bad day, if their inventory was really low after Indie Bookstore Day the weekend before, or if the stars just weren't aligned that day but the store itself was very empty. The book selection was minimal and the staff was not exactly helpful. Frankly the store felt too big for the minimal amount of books they had. Also customer service was absent that day and after asking some questions to the person at the counter you could tell he just didn't want to be there. The difference in customer interaction between this store and others around Denton was like night and day. Would I come back to Patchouli? Maybe, but it wouldn't be my first stop when visiting Denton.

The children's section in the Denton Barnes & Noble store has the most visually exciting displays I have ever seen! When I walked towards the children's section and saw the fabulous displays on the walls, it drew me in, like a child walking into the storybooks we have all loved. Anyhow! I was finally able to visit the store in-person and was pleasantly surprised by their incredible selection. They carry mainly romance, romantasy and fantasy books, but I ain't complaining since that's what I read. On the back of the store they have a private seating area that feels very speakeasy-type. I then actually applied for the job of Police Officer for our local police department, and was interviewed by a sergeant in the living room of our Roberts St. house, where I grew up with my three sisters and brother Scott, who was a very good French Horn player who went to the world famous and notorious North Texas State University, where he honed his musical performance skills to the apex playing in the Washington, D.C. based National Symphony Orchestra; his pastor wife, Leslie playing alongside. The National Symphony Orchestra is simply the best representative for these United States on the performance stage, and they share a place in my heart, because I actually was blessed with the sacred fortune of joining the orchestra in St. Petersburg, and Moscow in the year 1990. Students of history will remember that the Berlin Wall came crash down, and I was blessed with fortune of witnessing history in the moment of finality and sincere graceful end. Take it from someone who actually stood in freezing snow, in Budapest then the former Soviet Union, now basically retired and resting. Give Caesar what is Caesar's, and dare enough to turn over the evil tax collectors's tables; Jesus Christ saved us all with His blood shed on the cross at Calvary; I am blessed with a short enough memory to fill in the blanks of my rough and tumble daily routines, all of which are currently being stress tested, found to be safe and robust and currently found to be lacking in some ways, including the nebulous and vital ways. Remember, one cannot "study" for a typical physician ordered stress test, unless you consider the very logical process of changing our dietary habits. The store is very inviting and cozy, and the layout makes it easy to find whatever what you are looking for. The employees were friendly and informative, and you can tell that they are proud of this new store. The employee who helped me check out, even took the time to explain their free rewards program, and her help was much appreciated. The new location also has much easier parking, with plenty of spaces just outside their front door. They verbally confirmed we paid for those items. When we returned to pick up our items they said we had to pay again! We have the receipt. They are refusing to acknowledge they agreed that we paid for items. We requested video evidence from their cameras proving the clerk didn't handle those items. They refused to prove their case. The price quoted was a lot with a 10 week wait! But after they explained what repair entailed and what to look for when purchasing a BIble that lasts, I understood. I didn't get the name of the person that spoke to me, but she had excellent customer service skills and she used them, taking time to explain the process so very kindly. I decided to just buy the kid a new Bible (one not glued, but sown together, her recommendation) but if I ever need a book repair service, they will surely get my business. And, I'll be sure to pass on their info. Customer service is a lost art, but not at The Book Doctor!
