I had the unfortunate experience of opening a evite dinner invitation attachment on an email from a known acquaintance which turned out to be a Remote Access Trojan (RAT). I tried several times to clean my hard drive with Nord VPN Threat Malware and Malwarebytes programs which found nothing. A backdoor was established on my laptop and I could see the intruder's mouse pointer navigating throughout my laptop while my mouse pointer was disabled. The only solution to stop it was to sever the internet connection. The issue persisted for several days when I would reconnect the internet. The intruder wasn't always present but I could see when they were. The intruder got into my Google password manager, Quicken account and attempted to make Amazon purchases. I was running out of airspeed and ideas and recognized that I needed professional assistance. I researched locally for an I.T. firm and found Will Get IT Done. I met with Will who examined my 7 year old laptop and he recommended I simply replace it as the cost to wipe it clean/replace the hard drive and reload would be comparable to a replacement. Although working just fine prior to the intrusion, given the age of my laptop I took Will's advice and purchased a new laptop. Will and Nicholas transferred all of my clean files from the old to the new laptop in their lab leaving the RAT in the old hard drive. I am now back in great shape. The screen quality is worse, which is to be expected, but also the battery drains like mad now, the touch screen is overly sensitive, finicky, and inaccurate, and worst of all the touch screen will stop responding so I have to either wait til it starts working again or hard restart my phone I did not learn how to hard restart my phone until one day the touch screen was unresponsive for over 12 hours (i could still use voice command and the buttons) so i went back to phdfix and he was very impatient with me. Yes, I wasn't happy, but i was not trying to pick a fight with him - i just wanted to ask what was going on with my phone. He quickly jumped to the conclusion that the unresponsive touch screen, which didnt start happening til after the screen replacement, was due to my phone being slow due to having low storage (i have used about half of my phones storage capacity) and wasnt willing to explore any other possibilities. He then hard restarted my phone, the touch screen became responsive again, and he didnt explain how he did it so the next time it froze i had to hop on a computer to look up how to do so: hit the volume up button, then volume down button, then hold the power button for about 10 seconds. It had restarted so many times that some security feature was preventing all logins. First, they had to solve the login problem by cracking Windows security. Then they ran diagnostic tests that revealed RAM faults, requiring a new motherboard. In a few days, the new motherboard arrived, and now the computer is back home and working perfectly. This is the same sort of experience I've had before with the Computer Technology Center, so I was not surprised. Their office is open--they don't take your machine to another room. They'll do the diagnosis right in front of you. If the repair is simple, they'll make the repair while you watch. This openness gives one great confidence in their work. The price for the work was very reasonable. I hope I don't have another computer failure soon, but when I do, there's no question where I will go.
