This is the same sort of experience I've had before with the Computer Technology Center, so I was not surprised. Their office is open--they don't take your machine to another room. They'll do the diagnosis right in front of you. If the repair is simple, they'll make the repair while you watch. This openness gives one great confidence in their work. Alex, the "chief geek" (his words, not mine) and owner, helped me out. He was very professional and helpful and even said he would try to fix my computer if possible, but only if it was cost-effective. He wasn't able to fix my computer, but was able to get all of my data off my hard drive. He also offered a free estimate (or rather, it went toward the cost of the data recovery) and recycled my old laptop free of charge. And he gave lots of good advice on what computer to buy next.
