Our family-owned business only uses one computer. So when that computer decided to go on vacation, I was in a panic. I took it to the Latin location, and the guys told me it would be a few days before they would have a diagnosis. I got a call back the next day! There's no better service and warranty on a product purchased! I'm totally impressed, especially since my computer is 9yrs old; but, I was in a money/time crunch and needed to be able to run an editing program. The editing program was reading my video card as inferior and would not even allow me to download the software, much less use the program. I didn't know if I needed a new video card, more memory or a newer computer. Turns out Kevin removed all ghost drivers and installed the latest driver, which I had already attempted. Sounds simple, but I could NOT have figured all that out. These guys are experts with all the right skills and tools. Took my super slow, malware infested family computer to PC Laptops after hearing an ad on the radio that they will scan your computer for free! Well, the scan was free but to have PCL actually clean the computer and remove the bugs it was going to cost $275. Now, for some reason I had believed I would be getting my computer cleaned for free. Wrong. Scan is free, repair not free. Once I got past the angst of my incorrect assumption I decided to go ahead and get the work done because: 1. Staff at PCL obviously know more about everything than I do; and 2. *bleeping* computer was inoperable so I may as well get it repaired (and I had already unplugged it, loaded it in the car and driven all the way to PCL; I was invested). So, throwing caution to the wind and good money after bad I decided to go for it because: 1. I did not know that I could get the computer repaired for less elsewhere; and 2. I'm lazy and didn't want to call around for quotes. As a gambler at heart (not really), I decided to go all in and in addition to the virus removal I took PCL's recommendation to replace the glitchy hard disc drive with a 1 TB SSD. All told the work cost close to $500. $500 is a lot of money but I think i made the right choice because: 1. To repair my computer would cost less than buying a new computer (not beyond economic repair); 2. PCL has been around a long time and really seems to value its customers. PCL did a good job. The computer runs fast and reliably. I felt valued as a customer and will probably go back next time I need computer work. Last words: the free scan offer is a brilliant way for PCL to get people in the door and generate work. However, if you have to pay to remove bugs you could take your computer anywhere. They may not be the cheapest but PCL is competent and should be on your short list. read more

Brief: $4400 Gaming Desktop with lifetime parts and labor warranty. Dropped it off for recommended annual maintenance. Call today says they no longer honor their warranty, demanding several hundred dollars for parts and labor. Detailed: The liquid-cooled system they used in building this monster of a computer has found itself in need of maintenance for the second time in five years. I received an offer today to 'upgrade' my cooling system with something half the size that runs 10℃ hotter and compromises the aesthetics of the LED lighting system. As it's an 'upgrade', this won't be covered by the warranty and will cost several hundred dollars. I told them that I was happy with the warranty work performed last time this happened, and to just stick with what we know works on the machine. If they need to replace a part here or there, just make sure it's comparable to what is being replaced and is covered under the warranty. This is when I received the bad news. PC Laptops has determined that they will no longer provide warranty work on certain parts of desktop computers. Cooling systems are on the list of things for which they will no longer support. I asked where I could publicly find the updated list of things that are no longer supported and was informed this is an internal list. I asked for a copy of this list, and was notified that he had to ask his manager for permission. You can go to their website right now and see an interview where the CEO Dan Young says everything they put into a desktop is covered for life. It's a shame, because up until now, I've had great service through them. In Summation: 'Lifetime warranty on parts and labor' is now "that looks bad, and you thought you were covered under the warranty, but we've made recent internal decisions and the bottom line is you owe us money." read more

I bought my desktop computer from PC Laptop, with some trepidations, because of cost, back in Feb. 2016, and wanted to leave an update on my 8-year-old computer. It is running as well now as it did when I first bought it and just as fast. I take it in periodically for maintenance or any problems, and they have been great about free maintenance, even on this older computer, of course always trying to get me to update to a newer computer, but I won't give it up. I have been very pleased I bought it 8 years ago, and the service has been great, knowing I can call anytime I need help. Although it was expensive initially, it has paid off over the years with all the help and maintenance. We moved a few years ago, and it sat in storage for a year before I got it out and started it up again. Not a problem, started right up without any problems and has been going strong since. Layton PC laptop was used to be my computer place to go But NO MORE !!!. I took my computer to the Layton store because it wont power on. They send out my computer to find out the problem but when I called or visited the store to see the status on my computer, none one can tell me what is going on except Kevin who always absent (not in the store) every time I called. back and forth without any of my questions to be answered! Upon receiving a text that I need to return their "loaner" computer, I got my computer back without knowing whether it is fixed or not as I have decided to go somewhere else. Later on I received texted to either bring my computer back to the store or pay $150 (for I dont know what!!!) or I will be reported that I STOLED my OWN COMPUTER from the store that I send to fix for me??? Crazy bunch dummies!!! After the previous layton manager Mike (a great manager) left, it is a SHAME this place have changed to a ridiculous store with bunch dummies!!! My Dell 2710 all in one just turned 2 years old. The screen went black and I could hear it boot up just couldn't see anything. 2 days later I received a call that they had "horrible news". My computer is shot and what would I think about buying a new one from them! Before they even told me what was wrong with mine! When I asked what was wrong with mine he told me video card ( which I expected) and the motherboard was "going bad". When I asked how much to fix it he couldn't even tell me! He just kept saying I can have them build one similar for $2000-$2600. Needless to say I will be replacing the video card myself. Crooks! I have to update my review from a 1to a 4. The District Manager called me and was very polite. He informed me that the Store Manager was mistaken about never carrying the 960M 4GB version. He said they no longer have that model but he could make me a deal on a new laptop. After trading in my current model I'd still owe close to "2K". While a good offer, it's not what I wanted. At PC Laptops we want you to be 110% super ultra, mega happy... Yeah right! About 3 1/2 years ago I took in my Dell laptop because I couldn't remember the password. PC Laptops was able to recover everything off my old laptop and sold me a new one for $3500 (my Dell was 7 years old and outdated, unfortunately!). Fast forward to the beginning of May 2020 and now that same laptop won't turn on. So I take it in to the Layton store to get it checked out. Supposedly the motherboard is shot. I was told they could replace it but that it would be at least a month or longer as, surprise, surprise... it had to come from China! Or of course I could buy a new laptop. As I didn't want to wait a month or longer I opted to buy a new laptop. So, after buying my old laptop back they sold me a smaller sized scratch & dent one for $1200. By this time I'm late for work and without a computer. I use my computer to track my checkbook, bills, expenses and other things with Excel and MS Word. A few days later I picked up my new laptop when it was ready, but guess what? Here is where the problems start! I can't log in! Why? They put my password in incorrectly! (going back to the laptop I'd bought 3 1/2 years ago, they were able to transfer everything over without having the password and I didn't have any problems). The technician said he may have fat fingered it. However, my Microsoft Office programs didn't transfer over. Now they tell me they would have to go back in using my Hotmail account info. I said okay. (I still hadn't had a chance to check that everything was transferred over correctly). I had to leave it with them again. Later, I get a call saying my laptop is ready. I go in to pick it up. The technician removes a post-it note with somebody else's name on it off my laptop. I didn't think much about it. I'm able to log in and I take it home. Everything is okay, right!?! WRONG! Not only are most of my wife's downloads missing, I still can't access my Office programs, namely Excel (PC Laptops can't transfer MS Office over, probably having to do with licensing. Yet they're able to transfer all the other programs over without a problem). Here's where this gets to be a privacy and security problem: I have lots, when I say lots I mean LOTS of info that isn't mine! I have six years worth of tax returns (including SS#'s, address, full name, etc...), tons of photos, medical info and downloads for a total stranger and family! My wife is concerned now because how do we know that PC Laptops didn't put our tax info or medical records on someone else's computer? Oh, and I still don't have the hard drive out of my laptop. So, I go back in to PC Laptops and ask to speak to a manager. No manager. Assistant manager, none. The lead technician comes over to help, I inform him of what's on the laptop and what isn't. Their solution... They'll go back in and transfer everything over. So, after having to leave my "new" laptop with them again, four trips of at least 35 miles one way, I wait. Luckily it doesn't take them but a couple of hours. I go in to pick it up. Most of my wife's downloads are on it, but so are all the items not mine, except the photos. I had moved them all to a folder labeled "Not My Photos", those they deleted. PC Laptops explanation, "we didn't want to delete anything that was yours." Yet they'll leave all the info that isn't mine on the laptop and trust me to delete it? Needless to say I'm not satisfied! I got my hard drive back from the "old" laptop, kind of a half hearted apology and a year of service from them for my troubles (for the fat fingering of the password, Not for the privacy issues). Yet after five trips there and back I still can't access my Excel or other Office programs, and they left it up to me to delete and clean up my "new" laptop. Why couldn't they have just offered to wipe the "new" laptop and transfer everything from my "old" laptop to the "new" one or even better yet a totally different laptop so that there wouldn't be someone else's info on my laptop! Now I have to wait until June 5 when my MS security info will be replaced! So NO, I'm most definitely NOT a 110% super ultra mega happy or satisfied customer of PC Laptops! read more

I took in my 1 year old Lenovo laptop that was running really slow to the Layton location and asked them if they could help. They said they could and it would cost $50 for a diagnosis. I came back 24 hrs later and they said they couldn't find anything or duplicate it. I promptly duplicated it but still the answer was nothing they could do. Another company fixed the issue in a short period of time. **Note: After expressing my concern at the store, they promptly fixed the situation by refunding my money and provided additional assistance. It was impressive how the owner himself and the manager of the office expressed concern this had happened and made quick efforts to take care of me. My first experience with the store went from bad to good with them exceeding my expectations in taking care of the mishap. Mistakes can happen, but when they do, its great to see a company step up to the plate to make it right. I was impressed and will be back. read more

The casing on my laptop was breaking. I took it in and upon describing it they immediately tell me that I should just buy one of their computers so something like this wouldn't happen. I asked how much one would cost and they spend 20 minutes talking about details of the new computer, with the price at the end. It was out of my price range so I just asked them to fix the casing. I get a phone call from them the next day saying they haven't looked at it yet but to expect a call tomorrow. A week and half goes by and I hear nothing. I call in and the person gives me something along the lines of "It looks like the parts haven't been shipped, I'll check and call you back in 10 minutes." Two full days go by and I hear nothing. Finally they call, but I am at work and cannot answer. No voicemail or email. I call in the next day and no notes have been left on my case and the tech isn't in, so they can't tell me anything. They said they'll have the tech call me. A week goes by and I haven't heard from them. I call in again, and get the exact same thing I listed above. 48 hours later the tech calls at the exact same time I couldn't take a call last time, so I couldn't take it again. I call back in and get told that the tech will be in at 12:30pm that day (which is a time I can answer) and that he would call me. No call ever came. The end of that week (a full month has passed at this point) I go in to the store. Turns out they have been waiting on me to authorize repairs and pay them. Except that, you know, no one has told me this. I got one email from them at one point that instead of telling me this information, just said to call them. I now have my laptop back without repairs. The casing is now in a much worse condition than it was and I'll have to go elsewhere to get it fixed. Oh and when I went in and they explained that I should really just buy one of their computers. read more

We took our old computer in and they told us it could not be repaired. It was too old. It's was the latest and greatest 2 years prior. They tried very hard and finally succeeded in selling us a new one for 2200.00. OWe took our old computer somewhere else and they had it repair the next day and told us it was the ram board or chip and plenty of parts are available out there to fix it. All pc laptops wanted to due was sell us a new computer and take our money. Don't pay for expedited service at this store. I paid $79.00 to have my computer "put at the front of the line" and I was told it would be done at the end of the same day I dropped it off. I never heard back from the store. Concerned that I wouldn't get my computer back before the store closed, I tried calling several times within 1.5 hours with no answer. I finally drove to the store to check on the status with the hopes of picking up my computer. The attendant, who checked my computer in, didn't remember me and informed me my computer wouldn't be done until the next Monday. I was irritated to say the least. This is the second time I bought a computer with them. Yes, they are expensive. But I've bought computers in the past where I paid $1000 and it gets outdated really quick. I do believe they build their computers with better quality. I bought a hp laptop a few years back over $1000 where it overheated inside the motherboard after two years (this is with me doing a cooling fan all the time underneath to prevent overheatness). HP refused to help. They refused to do a recall on a known problem. The cost to replace the motherboard was the same as to get another computer. I do feel PC laptops, even though expensive, will help me in the long run. The other computer I bought from them a year and a half ago is running more than strong. I did have a problem initially with their solid state drive but they replaced it for free, no questions asked. read more

I've tried to get my computer repaired at the Layton location three times, and been to a few of the other locations with similar results. I bought a laptop from these individuals, and that they seem to be able to do. It's actual servicing of computers they can't seem to do right. The first time I needed a new charge cord for my computer they said it could take up to a week to order, Two weeks later it still wasn't done saying that they were waiting on the warehouse (I'll get to that more in the second visit) Talking to the manager who seemed at the time to be the only competent buisness representative offered nicely to give us the one they had on hand for free. That was really nice, but I credit it more to that specific individual and not the location as he had been changed in his location management by the time I had the second repair. Repairing the keyboard that was under warranty was the second repair I needed. It was going to be done for free. It was suppose to take a week at most to order the part then a few minutes to put it in. They didn't follow up, and a month later when I asked about it they said they were waiting on the warehouse. I then called the warehouse and they told me that they get orders more than one day a week and they hadn't received any such order at all, and could receive said order today. Calling the place back they had no idea what I was talking about and it took another two weeks for the repair to take place. After I did all the calling that basically made them do their job. Strike three came when I need to have a laptop CPU fan replaced, I did some digging and found that they can be a pain to replace as you have to get the exact right model. I knew it was the fan having problems and told them, I asked specifically for the time to expect the repair to be complete. They told me 2-3 days. 2-3 days later they said 7 more days, They never followed up in calling me, I had to call them each time. At that point I went to a different location Riverdale, they gave me a seven to 10 day time period. Calling on the 10th day they had no record of my visit to the location and no record of ordering the part I needed rather quickly. That day I fixed the part temporarily myself, It won't last long, and went to a different Computer repair store all together, and they got it ordered in 24 hrs, They got me a tracking ticket, and it will arrive in the relative time of one to two weeks as the part was coming from china. In Summary do not seek any repairs from PC Laptops most of them haven't a clue what they are doing. You'll only get frustration and no professional treatment. Look elsewhere. read more
