I stopped in with my laptop which needed to be repaired. The power plug connection had been broken and needed to be replaced. I brought in the broken piece and asked what it would cost to have it replaced. I was quoted at $200. I told the owner that my laptop only cost me $200 when I bought it, and he told me to try and do it myself. I figured I would give it a shot, and asked if he had the piece I needed. He laughed at me and said there was no way I could do it myself, and that it would take a week for the part to arrive. I sighed and said okay well thanks for your time and started to leave. He halted me and said hold on one minute I may have something. He went into the back for a couple minutes and came back with my piece in a little plastic baggy. I looked at it, and it looked used. I asked him if this was the correct piece and he said it was. He charged me $27 for it. I find out later the going rate is $5. He wanted to charge $200 because he had to "resodder" it and this required expertise and precision. Long story short, the connector he gave me wasn't the correct one, and he probably just jacked it from a computer in his back office. Well ... I talked to a guy at HH Greg and he told me that I could buy the entire board with connector included for about $15 on ebay and that there was no need to "sodder" the small connector to the old board. So that's what I did. I fixed it myself using a video on youtube. The owner at this store will try and rip you off if you let him. Thankfully I only lost out on $30 on a $5 piece, but I'm still irritated that he wanted to make a small fortune off of me for such a simple task. Do yourself a favor and talk to someone who isn't in the business of price gouging and selling used equipment that doesen't even fit your computer. read more
