Food was decent here, the family enjoyed the pizza and also the steak as well. The shrimp garlic was also perfectly fine. The location of this place is the real draw given where it is conveniently situated and they have a nice outdoor seating area that we enjoyed as well. Honestly this is probably one of the best places to eat from a proximity to shopping and tourist area POV. It's not like it was the best meal we had in Portugal by any stretch but it was fine enough that it didn't feel like some of the more obvious tourist traps we ended up at (not out of our own choice more b/c of timing purposes). After a day of exploring Sintra, my friend and I were starving. We decided to eat at Paco Real as it was very centrally located in the heart of the city and was one of the first restaurants we walked by. It was a nice day out so we sat outdoors in their patio. At 5:30 pm, it wasn't too crowded and most people were only drinking. I started with the prawn with garlic (13€) and got the daily fish in the oven cooked Portuguese style (18€) as my main. My friend got their vegetable tagliatelle for 14.90€. The food was okay but didn't wow me. The prawns were about what I expected, and the daily fish, which our server said was some kind of local white fish caught nearby, was a bit bland, even with the tomato sauce. I think I enjoyed the potatoes more than the fish itself. My friend said his pasta was pretty standard. Portions were pretty generous for the prices. On a very busy street in Sintra not far from the Sintra National Palace, this was a great restaurant to grab lunch. They have a nice menu and you can sit outdoors if you wish to, we did. We ordered the grilled octopus (tender and flavorful) and the pork Alentejo style, which is a pan fried pork in wine, garlic and spices, served with boiled or baked potatoes. Very short wait for food! Fish soup was very good, not very "fishy" tasting if you're not sure how much you like seafood (no shellfish, just white fish and some shrimp). The Portuguese style pork was incredible, wonderful flavor with lots of garlic but not overpowering. Tried some green wine and an Imperial beer as well. Ambience was awesome! We dined outside in the middle of Sintra town center with lights, music, and shops surrounding us. It was December and the weather was 60 degrees (Fahrenheit). I couldn't ask for more as far as the ambience. Service was amazing. Staff was friendly and they even let me charge my cell phone there. Food probably gets a 4/5. Think of it as a touristy restaurant in a great location. Bread was mediocre. I expected more out of the Pizza. Risotto was great. Prawn with garlic was decent. This review is a little dated. I ate here in October 2021. People in Europe don't seem to use Yelp very often. I'd like that to change, so this is my little foray into that effort. I had the best pork I've ever had in my life at this restaurant. I believe it was called Pork a la Portuguese. Paço Real was a fortunate find, just about across the street from the Sintra National Palace (a MUST visit when you're in Portugal.) Our eating schedule never seemed to correspond with the opening hours of most restaurants, but we got lucky here. My sister had the Portuguese pizza, and was very happy with it. We just arrived at Sintra for the first time in the evening. Looking for a place to eat around 9pm. Paco Real was the 2nd place we shopped. We looked at 6 other options in the area. We ended up coming back to Paco, mostly because they were very friendly and I wanted the Bife a Paris (cheese sauce steak). My wife was thinking about the Apple shrimp risotto, but we ended up selecting the bacon carbonara. THEY WERE BOTH SO GOOD!! Really cool staff too! Cute little outdoor seating area. The Risotto was basic, very bland by itself. Goat Cheese Puff was nice, well balanced with pairing of Wild berries, walnuts and argula salad. The eggplant was not cooked well, curry was fine. We visited Sintra on a day trip from Lisbon (September, 2018). We had a later than desired start and Sintra was jam-packed full of tourists. It was still early, around 11AM, and we were looking for lunch before seeing some sites. We decided upon Paco Real and were not disappointed. We had their house pizza (ham, arugula/rocket and shaved parmesan) in the shade on the patio. The food was good and the beer was cold. That's what we needed for fuel for the day. High prices. Decent food. Poor service. The first time we went, we were seated quickly but watched as two other tables were seated after us, given menus, and had their orders taken before we got our menus. I chalked it up to the way things are sometimes. The prices were higher than we've been used to in Portugal but were also higher than what we see in Chicago--$15 for a bowl of pasta seemed excessive. On our second visit, we ordered the margherita pizza and sangria. The pizza was good but again, pricey. The sangria seemed to contain little alchohol--I wasn't eating and had two glasses but didn't feel a thing, not even the slightest buzz. We then had to wait about ten minutes after our dishes were cleared to get the check--which I only got because I went to the waiters' station and asked to pay...after trying to get our waiter's attention several times from the table. It has a great location and perhaps coasts a little bit on that. You'll find much better options up and away from the National Palace. read more
