It was our first time visiting Paws for a beer, and we were not disappointed. Total opposite of it actually! A day membership fee is only $6, but you can buy a month or year at a time for a discount. Paws for a Beer is an off leash Dog Park, that allows humans 21 + to accompany them. Dogs need to be spayed or neutered, and up to date on their vaccinations. A great place for doggos to socialize, sniff each other, play with balls, sit on furniture, and walk around freely. They own the joint! We are at their beck and call. There is no other place in Whatcom county like Paws for a beer! Furr babies are free to roam as they please. There are ropes they can hang from, obstacle courses to conquer. Furr parents can hang out and watch tv, have a beer, wine, or other fun drink that they have available. The majority of the play area is uncovered, but a good section is covered with lots of space heaters, and a small indoor area to sit, and also where to can get your special baby some treats, food, bones, or toys! Absolutely love Paws! It's such a fantastic place to bring our doggo, she's so excited whenever we go there. The play area has fantastic drainage, even after downpours it's been fine. Beer and hot toddy selection is fantastic too, they even have a loaner coozies to keep your hands warm! The bar area is also fantastic, heaters and log burners keeping the chill away. I've not yet been there in summer, but in winter it's been a godsend so I'm expecting it to be incredible when it warms up, They also support all the local shelters, seriously this place is the dang best. read more

Paws For Beer is an amazing concept. I recently relocated to Bellingham from California with my 10 month old labradoodle puppy who was in need of socialization. She immediately took to the place and in no time, she was running around and playing with the other dogs while I enjoyed a great beer. For me, it was an opportunity to socialize with other humans. I brought my dogs one day and my boy isn't fixed and they let me go in ! thought it was ok to keep coming back but I went again and he kicked us out because of it! we enjoyed coming there and my dog minded his own business, what's weird is he is so about the rules of his place but he doesn't check other dogs paperwork to make sure the girls are fixed and I know that for sure because one of my girls ain't fixed but they didn't know because she doesn't have balls. You enter (pup or not, all are welcome) grab a can of whatever from the extensive collection of options and wonder out to the grounds where you'll find a mish mash of seatting options. Furry friends roam about freely playing fetch and catching up on the fire hydrant gossip. Dog parents drink and admire eachother' s four legged offspring. It's delightfully casual. The footprint of the grounds is significant too, it takes up a whole corner of a block. (Important to note because it's size is what makes it, I think) The boo and I were celebrating our 10 year anniversary with a little tour de Fairhaven and happened upon this spot. No animal accompanied us, but we were greeted by many a wagging tail regardless. I snagged a delicious watermelon cider and we hung out for a half hour laughing at the antics around us. I want to love this place but cant. I grew up showing and training dogs, take courses in dog behavior, am involved in rescue, and before moving here was taking classes with Nationally known dog behavior experts. I know dog behavior better than the average person. I have a dog that loves to play and knowing that the average person doesn't watch their dogs and some take overstimulated dogs out, I always watch my dog like a hawk here. My dog was playing well with a lovely Golden and suddenly a couple very over stimulated Corgis ran up to referee as corgi's do. One became over stimulated, snarling and nipped my dog as she wrestled with the Golden. I immediately removed my dog from the situation and the lady who works there came up to me and asked if my dog has issues. No, I know dogs well enough to never take a dog with social issues to a place like this. Also I follow around instead of ignoring her like other owners do at places like these because I dont want her to he around dogs that are over their social threshold. I think she was thinking I watch my dog so closely out of concerns for her behavior not the behavior of other dogs... The problem isnt my dog its the corgi whose owner was nowhere to be seen. Anyway, sadly, like all dog park situations, go here at your own risk. Half the time I'm here there is always at least one dog thats being bullied, overstimulated, nippy, etc, with owners that are not paying attention or think its cute or "good for them to figure it out". The dealbreaker for me is when their employee assumes my dog is the problem because there is no way the cute little corgi could be aggressive. The owner is a great guy, but sadly I'm over it and going back to setting up playdates on private property and her small private doggy day care for socialization. read more

TWO DOGS $8/day or $30/month or $165/year. Just recently opened, I'm sure Paws For A Beer will grow and develop over time and I anticipate a full house in Spring and Summer. Dogs and beer! Great combo! No dog necessary to enter. This bar is in a good location too, right by the train/bus station in Fairhaven. When I was there they had plenty of beer options, and understandably can only have 2 beers on tap, one of which was a local IPA! Yum! Good beers and good prices. I only wish they had reusable cups instead of disposable cups. If you bring a dog they have to be a member to get in. To be a member you have to pay a yearly membership fee and they have to be fixed which is awesome! Staff was very nice and helpful and all of the dogs were sweet. read more

Bellingham! You lucky dogs. The first place I've ever been to that was BUILT in order to cater to dogs and their owners. A few days ago, I was talking to a friend from Germany about how Seattle has (had? I don't know how old my info is) the highest # per capita of dogs to humans--sharing that I'm that dog owner that pushes the envelope at places that may not allow dogs (or large dogs for that matter) but once they meet my sweet girl.. ;) She was surprised to hear the statistic. But here we are. Bham, a second town to me growing up, pioneers the path for us (!) There's a member fee for bringing your dog; you can do one day, or you can do a full membership. I paid $5/one day to be able to bring in my takeout from Man Pies (mmmm Man Pies) and feed my dog and I. The extra $5 I paid was for the delicious Dawn Patrol beer (Dawn Patrol!) that you can purchase there. Paws is clean, welcoming and the COOLEST people and dogs can be found here. They have indoor and outdoor seating, so every season is covered. I loved that indoors, they had couches for us to sit on (I wonder if they have board games?) Outdoors, there's a wee agility course in the dog play area. There, you can park your booty at one of the small tables to enjoy your newfound friends! (The port-a-potty is adjacent to the entrance inside. ) Would I come back? A thousand times YES! They just opened several months ago and have a LOT of plans in mind so BELLINGHAM LOCALS AND VISITORS, give these guys your business. Don't let cat cafes be the norm (sorry, Helium, I love you baby but you kinda know I love the dog a little more.) Help businesses like these thrive. A couple of beers on taps? Indoor restrooms? Paws for a beer is growing hood in the dog park. Hops are very poisonous to dogs and Paws For A Beer KNOWS this and they do not care. Hood raise a dogs body temperature to levels that can cause seizures and death if not treated quickly. They also sell the hops that have been peed on by dogs to other breweries and the public to use in making beer! Yuck! It would be one thing if they didn't know but they do and they just don't care. I will never bring my dog to a place that can knowingly kill them. read more

Thoughts of sipping a cold one while our dogs ran and played off-leash were the stuff of dreams in our generally very dog-friendly - but understandably leash-requiring - local beer gardens. And while there are several off-leash dog parks around, they're all in public parks and, well, I'm guessing beer-drinking is strongly discouraged (if not downright illegal). Then along came PFAB to fill in the niche! So, yes, the rumors are true. PFAB is a huge, fully-fenced, indoor/outdoor dog park *with* a warm, cozy, inside bar in the center where you can sip a beer, cider, kombucha, or wine while your four-legged furry friend runs his a** off on the back forty. But here's a secret you might not have thought of: YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A DOG TO GO HERE! In fact, as a dog owner, I almost prefer to go here without my dog. It allows me to sit and drink my beer in relative peace, without having to worry that my dog is causing a ruckus, slobbering on people, or being his generally lovable-but-annoying self. No really, give it a try. Pull back the tab on your beer, sit on one of PFAB's comfy couches, and just wait for one of the resident pooches to bring you a tennis ball. Paws for a Beer is a great concept for a dog owner. And it's well carried out too. It's an off leash park with a bar for the dog owners, and it works really well. The first time has a bit of registration work, but it's worth it. Large outside area with toys and poop bags, and an indoor ate with beer, wine, cider and dog treats. I like it enough so today I bought a month membership for my dogs. They don't serve food or coffee, but you can bring your own or have food delivered. Oh, and you don't have to have a dog to come in. Awesome place, but last time I went, I felt harassed and discriminated against by a fellow patron who overreacted to my dog's interactions with theirs. Most owners here give dogs a little bit of time to work things out between themselves before intervening. Especially the first few times I went, people were far more forbearing than I was prepared to be, which helped me be more at ease with my dog's behavior. Not in this case. I was singled out - the other owner acted like my dog was attacking their dog and approached me in a very hostile, insulting way. When a different dog engaged the exact same behavior, no reaction. Zero. When I confronted them about the disparate treatment, I got more hostility. To that other owner, I say - check your bias and your privilege next time. I think I know why I was treated the way I was, and it made me deeply uncomfortable. I don't know that I'll be back, even though staff is great, beer is great, and the vibe is great 9 times out of 10. read more

How do the owners handle patrons that bring in misbehaving dogs. We were there for about an hour. Loving dogs all playing well together one dog came in. Within a few minutes. Attacked our dog and within another 10 minutes attacked another. There should be an extremely strict policy on this. Once...ok your dog just snapped another from all the playing and new experiences.
