I told him no and he ask why lol I said I have a coupon from Fromms and I'm checking the condition and he's like ok fine. Such horrible customer service. The cashier was unbelievably RUDE! It was my first time popping in and I decided to buy some treats for my animals. I always do my part to sustain our economy by supporting local businesses over the mainstream corporate ones. When it was time to cash out, I used Apple Pay (with facial recognition) and the transaction was declined. I thought that was weird so I tried again and the same thing happened. So I asked the cashier if Apple Pay was working (because obviously I know how much money I have in my account), and she said yes it was. I told her I was going to try inserting my debit card into the machine instead to see if that would work. I used the EXACT SAME CARD as I did with the failed Apple Pay transactions and it worked. So I was trying to be kind by giving her the heads up that it was the same card and that Apple Pay wasn't working and she got so defensive! She kept telling me that it was working and how she didn't know what was wrong with my card. Obviously implying that I didn't have money in my account. There was so reason for her to get as defensive as she did. Especially since I wasn't angry that Apple Pay wasn't working on the machine, nor was I accusatory. She wasn't even trying to hide her obvious judgemental facial expressions. I can only assume that she made a conclusion about me because I'm a person of colour and assumed my card declined. I've never had to deal with this before and I can't believe it's even an issue in 2019. If I wasn't running late for my employment I would've demanded a refund. Overall, this is one of my favorite shops to shop at for my dog. It has everything I need for him from raw food, clothing, toys, bath supplies, etc. and it's at a very convenient location for me. They occasionally have good sales as well. Services: I have a pretty reactive/anxious dog so I don't trim his nails myself. They do an amazing job trimming his nails and he does so well with them! Other: I see there are a few negative reviews about their service but in my experience, I haven't had any issues. I would also like to bring it up it might be a language barrier or culture barrier to how things are said in English. Please be kind to small businesses. read more

I went in to look around as we are getting a new dog soon. The owner ignored me and then when I asked a question, he seemed annoyed and very short. He then followed me around (trying to not be obvious) and made me feel very uncomfortable. I asked him another question to ease the tension and he snapped back "what do you want, what are you looking for?!" I have no idea what his problem was but I'm a new dog owner and could've spent a lot of money getting everything I needed, instead he's lost a customer for life. If he doesn't enjoy his work, he should do something else. I have never been treated so terribly before and will never return to this store! I've been bring my little toy poodle for 9 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. The truth is that she is a tough little girl - doesn't let anyone near her face.... Bob and Maya are terrific because they work together to ensure the dogs never get hurt. The best groomers always work in pairs. Considering how much work is involved, the nature of some of these dogs; I find it very inexpensive. All these people that write poor reviews because the owners were busy with dogs, and they thought the red carpet wasn't rolled out for them - need to get a life. read more

I come here to get the food/boutique items I can't get at pet valu or pet smart. Lucked into finding a leash here for my dog that I absolutely love. I usually come here to purchase acana or orijen food because that isn't sold in more popular pet stores. This store also keeps a log every time you purchase one of those two brands, and after a certain amount of purchases, you get a bag free. The owner has always been nice to me. I haven't brought my dog in here for grooming. Probably wouldn't, to be honest. I'd rather take her somewhere a little more credible for that. I also wish they were open a little earlier so I could pop in before work. They are open generally from 10 am - 8 pm. read more

I shop here for dog treats and kitty litter mostly and have had generally good experiences here. The store is clean and the staff clean up quickly if a dog has done his/her business on the floor. The products are good quality and the shelves are stocked. It is a well maintained store. Depending on who the cashier is, they are friendly. I took my gorgeous Persian cat here to get washed. They quoted $50 for the service. 4.5 hours later when we went to pick him up, he'd been SHAVED. This cat has no fleas or mats. And they billed us $70.00!!! When we asked why the heck they shaved him, they said 'groom' means 'shave' in their culture. On what planet!!! My poor cat's skin looks irritated and fur is uneven and patchy. read more

Didn't apologize, I told him he needed to understand the situation and at least apologize, he said he was laughing about me. I told him my dog was crying and he kept laughing. Are you kidding me? Customer service 0. Also another time they forgot to cut the side nail of my dogs paws. Then the guy tells me not to come back. Are you kidding meeeeeee!!!????? Of course I won't!!!!! I've never used the grooming service but I've frequently purchased treats, harnesses, leashes and jackets for my small dog and the prices are great (same or better than Pet Valu). I don't work in the area anymore but I would actually consider going back to pick up a dog bed, as I'm sure their prices are better than the larger chain stores. read more

One day my friend called and asked if they had pet crates. The owner didn't understand her, as English is her 2nd language and he hung up on her. I called back and asked the same question. He proceeded to swear profusely and slam the phone on the counter many times. I asked him to stop yelling and he told me that he has my number and he will find me. I hung up and he kept calling my phone repeatedly. I called the police and the police officer called him back and asked him the same question "do you sell pet crates" to which the man responded pleasantly. The officer told me to avoid calls from him as he seems to be unstable. I was shaking, shocked and scared. I hope nobody ever brings their pets to this man. If he can act like this to humans who are able to voice their opinion, imagine what he can do to an animal. read more

Worst experience. Called ahead of time to book an appointment for a nail trim and owner quoted me a price on the phone. When I got there, she told me her husband was busy and I had to help her hold my dog down while she clipped his nails in the back of the store... My dog is about 50 pounds so this was not easy. She seemed like she had no idea what she was doing, which made me nervous. My dog was shaking from being so scared. She ended up charging me more for the "hassle". Meanwhile I did half the work??? Had I known this, I would've done it myself and saved the money. I will never go back. Unprofessional and inconsiderate "service". Not to mention she didn't even give him a treat after that traumatic experience... I'm shocked at all the one star reviews! I can't comment on their grooming services, but I had a wonderful experience here today. The store itself is a boutique with lots of smaller Canadian brands that you won't find at the bigger chain stores. Went in looking for a buddy belt and when the owner realized they didn't have the size/colour I wanted, he offered to order it and call me when it arrived. He was very patient with trying the harnesses on my puppy. We ended up going with a Pretty Paw harness and a matching leash we love! Will definitely continue to come here. read more

My dog was horribly abused by this groomer awhile back. My suspicions were that it was by the male owner and not the female. When I came to pick up my dog, she ran to me with her tail between her legs, shaking. My dog's back was thin with little hair, red, raw and burnt. For two days my dog hid in her crate and was not herself at all. She would not eat and was very quiet. I had such a terrible feeling about what could have possibly happened. First of all, I have no complaints about the groomer. She always did a FANTASTIC job with Chloe. However, the last time I was there, Bob (the owner) went off on me. Yelling and swearing! I kept telling him to lower his voice and asking why he was yelling. He then said I was yelling too and that my face was red. I'll admit I raised my voice but that was to be heard above his yelling and my face was red because it was pretty cold outside. As a store owner, his behaviour is death to the business. All this because the previous time I was there, I said "it's no secret she doesn't like coming here". I realize now he took it personally but it definitely wasn't personal. Chloe doesn't like getting groomed and she certainly doesn't like being anywhere without me. The situation escalated very, very quickly. Even the groomer came out and put herself in between me and him. He accused me of ALWAYS ignoring him when I was in the store and said he was human. Anyone who knows me would find that hard to believe that I ignore anyone. But it's now apparent to me that Bob has some serious mental issues. He was making this all about him instead of my girl who hates to get groomed and what could they do to make her experience better. DO NOT GO HERE! Last week I took my three and a half year-old dog to the groomer at Pawland for a regular grooming appointment. When I picked her up three hours later the lady working at the store first brought me out the WRONG dog. After I clarified, found my own dog, and paid the bill I took my dog home thinking everything was alright. The following night as I was cuddling my dog on the couch I came across a giant scabbed-over cut behind her ear about the size of three loonies put together; my dog is only 10 lbs. Panicking and unsure what caused this massive cut, I took her to the veterinary clinic the following day. They told me she had been cut by the groomer not only on her neck but also on three of her nails, which I did not realize were swollen and red. My dog needed to go on antibiotics, get her skin cleaned and de-scabbed, and was stuck in a cone as a result of the groomer at PAWLAND. While this was bad enough, the owner and groomer did not inform me when I picked up my dog that anything had happened. When I went back to PAWLAND to question their behavior they not only belittled me and called me a liar, but also grabbed my dog out of my arms and ripped off her cone in an attempt to see her cut. I have owned dogs my entire life and have never heard of such terrible treatment. The owner was extremely rude and aggressive! This store needs to be shut down immediately! read more

I have lived in the area for about a year and have come to this place for nail trimming, treats, and occasionally food for my dog. The owner and staff have always seemed very nice, respectful, and helpful. Recently I went in to pick up some food for my dog (I had done so 3-4 times previously in the past year and had an account). When I entered the store the owner was in the back grooming a dog and seemed stressed and alarmed to see me there. I asked him if he was closing or if I should come back, he said it was fine. I told him I just needed to pick out my dog's brand of food. He turned and I then heard him swear distinctly as he moved towards the cash register in Korean. I am Canadian but have lived in Korea, studied the language a bit and I know when I am being told 'fuck you' At first I thought maybe he was swearing under his breath, talking to himself so I played it off. When I went to the cash and asked if he could stamp my loyalty card for the brand of food he asked my name, checked the 2 cards that were in the register, and said after a year they expired and he didn't have mine. He was extremely rude about it so I put the food back on the counter and said I'll just go somewhere else. He started to get angry and at this point I asked him if he was swearing at me earlier. He denied it and even denied that he knew what is essentially the Korean word for 'fuck'. I told him at this point that I understand Korean and he yelled at me to get out. As I left I heard him screaming profanity in English at the top of his lungs. I ordinarily don't leave negative reviews but this incident combined with the previous person's comment about dog kicking leads me to believe that this person is unstable and I will not be returning. read more

I've always taken my dog here for grooming and it always took a long time but they usually did a good job. This time I called them three hours after dropping my dog off to be told that she wouldn't be ready for another three hours. Furious I asked him where she was in the process, he said bath, so I told him to dry my dog I would be coming to pick her up. I got there and she wasn't even bathed. She'd been sitting in a cage for three hours. Completely unacceptable. When I go to pick her up the owner sends the groomer out and wouldn't even come I out to talk to me. I have my Portuguese Water Dog groomed at Pawland and they do a wonderful job. I've had him groomed at other shops in the Yonge/Mt Pleasant/Davisville area over the last few years and his grooms at Pawland are the best. Staff is accommodating and helpful. read more

I had a terrible experience at Pawland today. I went to purchase food for my old and sick dog and the customer service was horrific. Not only did the owners tell me they did not know what kibble was or have it at the store (impossible), they did not let me have an ounce of space while walking around the store. I took some time as a I had to verify the proper dog food from my mother as I'm dog sitting. The worker continually came to me to ask if I knew what I wanted yet, this was after I explained to her I was waiting to get a response via text to verify. She did not budge,continued to follow me around the store like a hawk and keep asking what I wanted. They did not know where anything was, have any helpful advice and they seemed happier to have customers leave then stay in their store. Further, I took a picture of a small bag of treats to verify it is safe for my dog, she told me this is not allowed. I explained my dog has 2 diseases, is 16 and has a very careful diet and anything out of the ordinary can make him violently ill. Again, this did not phase her. Rather, she was pushing for me to leave the store. I will never return here and I advise others against it as well. Even worse, at the front it appeared that their own dog had peed and it was just covered with paper towel. Very unsanitary.
