This is a Dubuque Must go to. They serve the old school beers and taxidermy is everywhere. This place is famous and quirky i love it so much. No trip downtown is complete without popping in here. read more

Love, love, love this place! Tom & Dave are fantastic! Burgers are great, don't ask for fries! They don't make them like this anymore....

Chill bar, cool ambiance. Needs more food options, but given the space available don't hold it against them. Burger was good. Bar staff was friendly. read more

This is my favorite bar style burger in the entire world. Such an interesting decor with the trophy deers/Rams/bears/jack rabbits. Highly recommend any out of towner to experience a true Dubuque staple! read more

This ain't no gastropub, this is a goddamn American tavern. So when four hungry travelers popped in, buzzing off some strong brownies, well I tell you brother, from the big game on the wall to the cold brews in our hands, these American boys knew things was just right. Don't come seeking some high falutin' reinvention of the burger, this place serves em hot, cheap, on paper plates the way Americans been serving burgers for thousands of years. We salute you Paul! read more

If you ever wanted to know what a "dive" is, Paul's is a dive in the truest sense of the word. The grill is... well, an antique. It's been around for a while. There are mountains that are younger that the grill at Paul's. There's a good chance it's not been cleaned in a while. But you know what? For a simple burger on a simple food service bun, it's tasty. Possibly because it is what you'd expect from a place like this. If you want a fancy $10 burger, you're gonna come here and say that the burgers suck. Don't bother if you think burgers should be gourmet. If you want your ketchup and mustard in bright red and yellow bottles, you're home. No fancy beers either. Economy is the scale at Paul's. Beer snobs will not approve. There's plenty of other places to go. You won't be able to buy a round for a few people for less than $10, however. Top it off with a who's who of stuffed game animal heads on the wall and the locals who seem to regular the joint, and you have a textbook dive. In a region where people can be cliquish and stand-offish to strangers, Paul's is an exception. Maybe because the regulars are often shit-faced drunk by 5pm. But there's never a lack of folks to talk to. And they're friendly and fun, if a bit inebriated. Rhodes scholars they ain't, more like the denizens of a Bukowski poem. Some might refer to them as the scum of the earth and the dregs of humanity. They just might be. And they're wonderful people, the most beautiful of dregs. It's the only spot I've been to in Galena/Dubuque where I've felt welcomed. Isn't that what you should expect from a dive? I love you all, patrons of Paul's, for accepting a stranger into your midst without hesitation. Paul's is a well-worn pair of jeans. Maybe a little frayed with a funky stain or two, but just what you want to put on to relax. Like Nick's in the weird alternative universe of Bedford Falls, it's a place that serves cheap drinks for people who want to get drunk fast. Relish it. read more

Nothing fancy here. In a good way. The burgers are delicious. Beer is cold. The people and chill atmosphere are what has kept this place open for a long time. I would hang here all of the time if I lived nearby. I was actually passing through Davenport around lunchtime and had to make the detour to Dubuque for a burger and coke. WORTH IT! I love local dive bars. read more

Simply put the greatest dive bar I have ever had the pleasure of stumbling out of. Stuffed dead animals, check. Old Style on tap, check. Salty regulars, check. Great jukebox, Check. Enough good things can not be said about their cheeseburgers. They are the perfect bar food. read more

They have remained un-changed for decades. The burgers here are simply delicious..broiled to perfection in a vintage cooker. A "must stop" anytime I'm in Dubuque. Good Beer, Great Food, Friendly Folks..what more could you ask for read more

Very cool place! Quick burger for $3 and cold Pabst Blue Ribbon. Nice guy bar tending. Place has very cool mounts on the wall of various animals - dive bar you want to be at! read more

Paul's Tavern - Bars Near Me - Dubuque, Iowa

Great cheeseburger, very much a blue collar bar and fairly priced. I would go again.

I don't care how long you're in town, a day, the weekend, or even if you live here..... GO TO PAULS FOR A CHEESE BURGER. They are literally stupid good. Where is Guy Fieri when we need him???? read more

A cheap and tasty hole in the wall. It's a dive with taxidermy on the wall. They have an ancient burger making machine. This is a great place to go for a beer and a basic burger. It's tasty and cheap. We always go when we're in town. read more

I have no idea how the food tastes because we were overwhelmed by cigarette smoke when we opened the door. We left after 5 seconds. Very disappointing. Luckily, Yelp shows several good options just one block away. read more

A hipster's wet-dream. Beyond that: good burgers; shitty beer; odd patrons, on the good side, with assholes of unmitigated ignorance, on the bad; and, of course, ice-cold steins of milk -- a perfect pick-me-up (I guess?) for those wasted nights along the Mississippi. read more

Excellent cheeseburger! They use a grill from the 1930s or 1940s and the burger was very juicy! The place is a local dive bar, nothing fancy, but the burgers are delicious and only $3. Worth the trip! Also had good service - would definitely come back! read more

Inexpensive drinks followed by a great atmosphere with some of the best bartenders that are just so down to earth. They're kind and attentive and just overall awesome! read more

Awesome place for a great burger and a good drink. Amber is awesome but she's off on Sundays. I suggest don't come on Sunday because the bartender only serves men and makes women wait. Thank you Amber for the great service. read more

I forgot that when beer is around people 2 feet away only know how to yell but that is them not me. The burger was ok until cigarette smoke came pouring through the little window by the food from a man in the back smoking inside. Sorry Paul's Tavern, you did not win over this local man. read more

As almost life long Dubuquer I am almost ashamed that this was my first Paul's burger. It was delicious. I recommend and encourage anyone who is visiting Dubuque to stop in and try a Paul's burger! $3.50 for a cheeseburger that you will definitely not regret having. You can even bring the kids! They don't have French fries but they serve a homemade macaroni salad that a regular said was amazing and they have a variety of potato chips to chose from. read more

A locals favorite, but their burgers have gotten national "cudos". Limited menu, just get a burger, they are very good. Check out the animal heads. Kind of creepy. read more

Stopped in here after a long, grueling hockey tournament from out-of-town based on Yelp reviews. Honestly, this is the best burger I've had outside of Wisconsin! Menu is very simple so that they can focus on what they do have. They have burgers, ham sandwiches, and tuna sandwich, nothing else. No fries, nothing, just chips on the wall. The burgers and ham sandwich were amazing. I inhaled my burger and if I were more of a pig, would have had another. Place is like your bar next door, so our son was pissed off with stopping here, but we told him to f off and we ate here anyway... read more

Wheather you live in Dubuque or traveling trough... Everyone needs to experience a cold beer and cheeseburger at Paul's Tavern!

What a great find! Totally a low key bar - Paul is/was a hunter so there are lots of his conquests on the walls (bears, squirel, bears). They serve burgers and ham/cheese sandwiches that they make at the bar in a really cool coal fire oven/grill - they serve them until 1am and are $265 I believe. AWESOME. We will definately go back when in the area. read more

If you are a dive bar maven, look no further than Paul's Tavern. Dank and small, sixty years of drunken aroma, descent burger and a lot of stuffed dead things on display. The locals were friendly enough to give us a few pointers as where to go around town. They didn't make it cozy southern hospitality but enough to feel safe and able to hammer a few pints. Love me some Paul's tap! read more

Great food! Came out quickly and with no mistakes. The atmosphere is great and the staff was friendly and welcoming.

Nice local townie bar. Only had a cheap Old Style, but enjoyed the atmosphere other then the loud jackasses at the end of the bar haha.

Best place to just "be".....meet a friend for a drink, grab a (fantastic) burger, or just stop for one after work.

If you like beer in a frosted goblet or mug, this place is for you! Otherwise, it's the cheapest bottles in Dubuque. And don't miss the best burger in the tri-states! Paul's is a great small bar with friendly people all day every day. Warning: if you are opposed to hunting, don't look up when you enter. read more

This is the ultimate zoo that is no longer alive. Great Bar, Great Burgers, Great Drinks and Reasonable Prices. The atmosphere of the mounted animals is really cool and has some great stories in terms of the hunts that brought these "tigers" into the bar. I'm not from Dubuque, but I try to visit Paul's as often as I can as a visitor. I wear my Paul's Tavern T-Shirt and Hat with pride. read more

First time in Dubuque for the weekend and went to Paul's 3 times! Best burger and great service. The perfect dive bar to stop in during your visit read more

I recently came back to have the famous mini-burgers I use to love, but was disapointed. I have asked around and I apparently came on the wrong night because the female bartender still makes the burgers as good as they where before. The only positive note was that there is still cheap beer and it remains the only place with a polar bear or an indian. Also, don't go if you are an animal lover, you will leave in tears. Paul was a big time hunter. read more

The burger is very good. It is a straight forward cheese burger. Seasoned nicely with a little salt and pepper served with American cheese on a plain white bun. I got mine with pickles and grilled onions. For $3 it is a good deal. The Chili nice and chunky with large tomato chunks and robust but not spicy. They only advertised the chili through lunch or "until it is gone". Personally I would have added some tabasco sauce and onion. If you are a fan of taxidermy then you will like the interior decoration. The menu is short 5; sandwiches and written on the wall next to each booth. I liked it. Realize it is essentially a bar with a small grill behind the bar. read more

Best burgers in town! For the price obviously. $3 for a delicious burger can't beet that. Good tap drink prices also. O I can't forget to mention the game heads on the wall. Awsome little place. read more

Cheap beer and great hamburgers. Just got double charged for a round of drinks so don't run a tab. The bartender with the tattoo on her breast ripped us off. Tried to do the math with her but nobody was home. $10 not worth a big hassle. read more

Seriously the best cheeseburger I have ever ate to this day. The taxidermy, plus pre 70s feel has an atmosphere that's something you can only experience at places like The High Life Lounge in Des Moines read more

First off, this is my favorite bar in town. Best beer prices around and awesome burgers made late into the night. Easily the most dive bar in town with mounted animals and PBR signs everywhere and Johnny Cash blaring through the old jukebox, but it makes everything perfect. Usuals very friendly and everyone seems to have a great time. Highly suggested to anyone looking for a different place! read more

When it comes to Hamburgers this place is great. They burgers are cooked on this weird little carousal machine and are served to you on a paper plate with onions and an average bun.It doesn't look like much but when you bite into it. WOW it is so juicy and marvelous. Best burger we ate in Dubuque. read more

The best hole-in-the-wall bar you could hope to go to. The burgers are delicious and cheaply priced and it is always given by a friendly face. The clock behind the bar just says "whatever!" on the face of it and that is the best symbol there could be for Paul's. It invites you in and allows you to forget about whatever you were doing before you walked through the door. The local regulars are a testament to its laid back energy and I'm sure I would be one if I lived closer. One of my favorite bars, will be back for a burger and a pitcher soon. read more

Burgers are outstanding. Couldn't get a Manhatten here but you can order a Scoop of beer. Works for me.
