Scheduled a repair appointment for Friday between 1-5 PM. Technician never arrived. Called before the end of the appointment window and was told I'd receive an update. Received an after-hours call from the office apologizing because they could not locate the technician. Was told they would check availability for Saturday and follow up. Never received another update. I took half a day out of my schedule waiting and still don't know what happened to the technician or whether the company intended to honor the appointment. I also never heard anything about a Saturday appointment and it's now midday on Monday and they still haven't called back. Apparently my business is not important to them and if the consultation appointment was this unreliable, my guess is the servicing and repair of pools is the same. read more

I had been having issues with my salt water system that needed to be fixed. I tried some repairs myself but determined that I could not fix it myself. I called Paul's Pool Service and spoke to the owners wife who was not only helpful but fun to speak with. The call was scheduled for the next day between 11 and 1 but I received a call asking if they could come early. Mike, the owner, arrive and promptly started to work and within abbot 15 minutes found the issue. A simple switched wire did the trick and the unit came to life. Needed a new Pool Service company for my rental property in Riverside and I was referred to Mike at Paul's Pool Magic. Started using their services in April of this year and we have been 100% happy with our decision to go with Paul's. WORST SERVICE POSSIBLE. OWNER IS RUDE. I have been a customer for over 10 years first time I have an issue I spent 1800 on valve problem. Never fixed. Hire new company only 700 and great service. They are only decent for basic pool cleaning do not use them for any repairs or fixing of motors or heaters. The pool guy that was coming tried to hit my dogs with a stick. A 4lb an 12lb dogs. they wouldn't give me a timeframe so I could put dogs away. They have gone really downhill in the last year. I would steer clear !! read more

Had pool service here for a little over a year. I wasn't impressed. A few things happened that lead me to believe they were happy to take my money every month but didn't really proactively do anything they said they would from day 1. Filter cleaning 2 times per year? You would think they would proactively do this right? Nope. My filters got so bad, the jets in my spa didn't work. I had to call them to have them come out and clean the filters which btw were caked with dirt as if it hadn't been done all year. This was in 10 months after starting service. I also checked the PH and Chlorine with my own kit every once in a while. About half the time, my PH or Chlorine wasn't right. I got the feeling they penny pinch on chemicals. I paid $140/month to these guys for over a year. Not once was I impressed, and I finally just cut them. Go with someone else. That's my take anyway. read more

Great experience! After reading other reviews, I'm surprised that a couple people are shocked to hear that it takes more than a phone call to diagnose pool/spa equipment issues - especially heaters. They are generally 100% troubleshooting! Paul's team was awesome. Super skilled, confident, and had solid answers to all of our questions. They found the problem (we have a Pentair Minimax NT), replaced the right parts, and got our heater running again in a couple of hours. Initially we thought we had found a good company to work with. The other day the pool servicemen came to the house and took apart our whole pump and filter with the intention of replacing it. They did not ask for our consent for this replacement project that would end up costing over a thousand or two thousand dollars. We had asked him to come back and replace everything he had done but he refused and hung up the phone in our faces. I don't think this is a very trustworthy company. Very unprofessional. Said he couldn't diagnose over the phone. Wanted 75 dollars just to come out and look at it. He did tell me over the phone that my equipment was outdated and I would need a completely new system. I called another company that told me what was wrong right over the phone and how much our would cost. Basically i needed a higher voltage timer for a new pump I had just installed (125 dollars). When Paul owned this business and came out to troubleshoot or service the pool, this was the best in town. Now, forget it. I am constantly struggling to get the sweep to run after the pool cleaner has been here. When I am not successful, I call and leave my message because they never answer the phone anymore. They do send someone out, but it shouldn't be necessary in the first place. Apparently it never occurs to them to take one extra minute to make sure the sweep is running properly before they leave. We used this business to replace our pool pump June 2017 and were very happy with the service we received. LOVE the new quiet pump! A year later, I accidentally let the pump run dry for HOURS (oops). I was dreading the phone call thinking I ruined the pump. Pump wouldn't prime or if it started to, it wouldn't stay primed. Mike came out and started with a few obvious repairs (very low cost) and we tried that out. Still wasn't the problem but those items needed replacing anyway. Mike came back out and ran a few more diagnostic tests and he then moved on to how our filter was working. Ran a quick test and it was determined that we needed new filters. Works wonderful now! Basically what I am saying is that Mike was very diligent in finding out what was wrong and very good at what he does. It was just a coincidence that what ended up being the problem happened at the same time I let the pump run dry. He is honest and did not try to upsell repairs that didn't need to be done nor even suggest we buy the filters through him. We will definitely keep using them for all of our needs. I had an extremely reputable company come out and charge me $300 to detect that my pool was leaking and i needed to replace the skimmer...would of cost me $1900 and they needed to rip up my stone work and they would try to save the stone but i would still have to cement it back in myself. I decided to get a second look and boy am I glad I did. Pauls pool magic came out and did a pressure test and another test with dye ...the discovered there was a gap between my concrete and skimmer and they sealed it..no need to replace the skimmer and didn't charge me any where near 1900..thank you for your fast, reliable and clean service! We hired Paul and company to assess what was wrong with our leaking spa and fix it. They came out, tested it, and determined that the skimmer needed replacing. We paid him almost 3k to replace it, and they assured us that they back their work. The spa continued to leak, so they came back out, did further tests, determined that there was another problem as well, and did what they determined needed to be done to fix that. When we notified them afterward that the spa was still leaking, Paul came out and, smiling, told my husband "If I were you, I would just cover it and put a table and some chairs on it." My husband was appalled by his attitude. The upshot of it is that we are out almost 3k and have a spa that is still leaking and unusable. read more

Words alone can not express my gratification for these guys. I had another company, refurbish my pool. Re-plaster, re-tile, and install new equipment and some plumbing. DE kept piling up in my spa and polluting my pool. I contacted the company that did the overhaul and, they sent someone out to check out the filter. This Pentair guy, did all he could. He replaced the internal parts, cartridges, and even the filter with a brand new filter. As everyone from the pool contractors, to the Pentair people were stumped and months and months later, I finally called another pool contractor. Paul's Pool Magic. After 10 minutes of looking at my pool, spa, and equipment, a $30 part, this seemingly endless problem was finally resolved!!! The funny thing? Nothing wrong with my filter...I love the way these guys analyze the issues, consult with each other, and come up with their plan. The other pool contractor, well, they looked, and looked, and wanted to look some more, just making a huge mess, etc. I highly recommend Paul's Pool Magic. I have never seen my pool and spa look so beautiful. I don't know what Paul would have charged for this one fix, however, they also replaced old valves and plumbing that should have been done during the refurbishing. Also, the other guys left a huge mess of DE all around my pool equipment, down my driveway and in front of my neighbors. Without even asking, Paul cleaned up the mess, leaving our home beautiful. I was having problems with suction allowing the pool sweeper and filter to do their jobs. After trying a couple of things (including waiting on Leslie's Pool Supply for over 2 weeks because they kept ordering the wrong part -- Leslie's gets a zero on my review), and replacing pipe that I thought was the issue, I went on line and contacted Paul's Pool Magic. I explained my problems to a very nice lady, Lena, who set up an appointment for the next day. There is a $75, non-refundable service call fee, but it's well worth it to find problem. Paul and Mike came out and noticed air was getting in as well as problem with water flow. They replaced valves, deck vac, filter gauge assembly (note: pool was built in 1989). They then had to bring in leak detection machine and discovered I had an underground leak. Paul layed out possibilities, best and worst case, but was pretty certain it was due to large tree near spa that had cracked pipe. Fortunately (best case), that was it...would have cost more had the skimmer been damaged. They replaced pipe and filled hole back in. I also had them do thorough cleaning of shock and algaecide since pump had not worked properly for nearly a month. They found problems, explained options and completed all work in less than 2 days. Owning a pool is not cheap...but I was treated fairly and professionally, they were sympathetic to my concerns and did excellent work. Paul and Mike are good dudes and are without a doubt good about what they do. Paul was out to do leak detection for an in ground pool at a rental property. After 2 short visits to my house he determined it was the pool skimmer that needed to be replaced. I asked him to give me a quote on repairs and he did. He was also paid for the leak detection job. He quoted me 3,000 - 3,500 for the repairs that were needed. As with any home project, I have the practice of getting 3 quotes and deciding based on price and quality. A few days later after Paul provided the quote he gave me a follow up call to see if I wanted him to do the work. When I requested something in writing about his findings from the leak detection phase of the job, Paul became aggravated and told me that he doesnt do that and it would cost me $150 for him to give me that in writing. He was very upset because I was getting other quotes. He then proceeded to attack me personally for "screwing" him. Paul was paid for the work he did and it was never implied he would do the repairs. As far as written documentation, it is a lie that it is not industry standard to give customers infomation in writing. Paul is old school and doesnt understand that word of mouth deals just dont work anymore in this day and age. Also, his price was significantly more than the other companies that were out to provide bids. Stay away not because this company does bad work but because this gentleman does not provide good customer service and is very unprofessional when he doesnt get the job. I have read the other review about not being able to diagnose the problem over the phone and charging 75 dollars for a service call...what did you expect ? $75.00 for a service call seems reasonable to me.. you must work for the government or have no idea what small business cost are for fuel, insurance, equipment ,government licenses, taxes, payroll and so on. yes I'm starting to rant. read more
