However, it is the Piñalava Sunshine that really caught my attention as it seems to have everything going for it!

They have these "app only" deals but here's the kicker - the store has no service! so tonight I'm standing online holding up the entire line trying to get this app to show me the deal on broccoli so I don't have to pay $10 for broccoli... everyone behind me is aggravated and rightfully so! Like human beings are not stressed out enough now we have to deal with this? The cashier is just standing there... finally he gave up when he saw that I wasn't just gonna give up and pay full price and just scanned the barcode for me and I just looked at him like sir, You had the barcode this whole time and you had me here fighting with an app holding up the line pissing everyone off like, are you for real? I've been saying I'm going to do this for a long time but tonight I finally had enough. I'm going home to research and invest in a meat box, a vegetable box, looking up all my local farmers markets and probably going to re-join thrive market because I just cannot with this place anymore. That's how sick to death I am of them. I hope AI takes all your jobs!

The kit comes with 4 small size regular marshmallows (nothing home made) and 4 TINY pieces of chocolate that wouldn't even cover one s'more. It's all Graham cracker one marshmallow and a smidge of chocolate. See photos. Yes they include a tiny bit of caramel sauce and peanut butter sauce on the side, but I'm sorry, these don't even make complete s'mores. More expensive ingredients...ok. But not including enough to make an ok s'more is odd. The Graham crackers are also run of the mill. Maybe try the s'mores made there? A take home kit your better off getting a bag of large marshmallows, higher end grahams and a nice block of fancier chocolate for $20. I have ZERO problem spending premiums on food and good ingredients...but this kit is a rip off do not do it.

I'm not really a s'mores person, but wanted to check it out since it was new. The owner (I presume) said they've been open for about 3 months now. Décor was cute inside. They have kits you can purchase or you can order individual s'mores. They have a vegan option too, so you'll have plenty to choose from. Good service. Small s'mores, but I guess the vegan and organic ingredients make them a bit on the pricier side ($7-8/s'more). Not complaining, just thought they would be a bit bigger. But I guess I don't need the extra spike in blood sugar anyway, so it's all good. The Classic was good. I ordered mine with oat milk chocolate. This place is still new, so hope folks check it out. It reminded me of a s'mores shop in Portland, Oregon.

It was on the warmer side and they didn't have any shaded seats available, but I love the sun and wasn't bothered by this. The servers were very attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and provided too notch customer service. I love when they can speak to the menu and offer suggestions. Me and my friend opted to share a salad and pasta because we weren't super hungry. We ordered the very fren salad and the Malfadine pasta. The salad was fresh, crisp and had a great flavor. The seeds at times felt like I had them all in my teeth, so needed to do a teeth check afterwards! Haha the pasta is made fresh and was light, but so flavorful. We did not leave a morsel on the plate! I only walked through the inside to find a restroom. It looked like they had a lot of seating for larger parties and a private dining room as well. Super clean, simple design, but felt warm. Wish I lived closer to dine here often, but it's definitely a spot to try if you're in town visiting!

For our first appetizer-type courses, we ordered sliced sourdough with butter and roasted cabbage - both great options. The roasted cabbage ended up being my favorite part of the dinner. It was like a Caesar salad on a juicy, tender cabbage spear with a slight char. I felt like I definitely needed to order some bread to try some element of the bakery. We got another taste of the bakery because we also ordered pizza from the kids menu. I snuck a piece and that was great. We ordered two main courses: one pasta dish and the other was a braised rabbit with morels. The pasta dish was fine but my wife and I weren't planning to share it. We had to share it because the rabbit dish took so long that I had to cancel the order. It was unfortunate because I was really looking forward to that. That was one inconvenience. The other hiccup was they didn't have any beer available because of a cooler issue. They had really good beer on the menu too, so finding that out after I ordered was a let down. I entertained ordering wine or a cocktail afterward, but passed. We were sitting by the bar and the cocktails they were making looked really good. With those issues, the manager spoke with us and sent us home with a slice of lemon meringue pie to rectify. We appreciated the gesture and the service we had all night was good. I'm sure this place gets 5/5 stars most nights. It's a super cool place inside and out.

Maybe I come from a different viewpoint as a retired chef. And ..... that being said ~ everyone at the table said they thought it was an experience. It's because the people in charge and the people cooking have Michelin training. It's because they are more than open in every area, to growing. I'm building a Restaurant Community, and so are they as they educate you about the many intricacies of the beautifully plated food. I must say all of us we're totally impressed at their new $100 dinner. We came in to just get a meal and within minutes we all agreed to go for the $100 choice. Debbie says: "I know they said 4 or was it five courses, but this is certainly way beyond that. I've stopped counting the number of courses". I will give you a little 'sneaky peaky' in the pictures. And I do agree it's an abundance of food and an abundance of flavors. One word of caution: do not go here for regular American Chinese style food. That's not what this is. It's way better, certainly than anything we get in San Diego called Chinese. I normally share comments in this space from the people I eat with. But this time around (since they're always changing up the menu) I don't think would be fair to you. If I talk about a dish that is unbelievable, an incredible combination of flavors (which most dishes are) you'll go in and want to order and it will no longer be on the menu because it's "chefs choice" for $100, with the waiter asking what your preferences from the menu are. So I will hold back a little in details. What I will say is this: you should absolutely try this restaurant once. And if you can afford it, invest in the $100 experience. Otherwise ask them for the top 3 dishes people have ordered and enjoyed the most. Last recommendation (because they've had it on the menu for a while, always equally good) "Don't miss the duck". The next day I was reheating leftovers (4 containers of leftovers) and still thoroughly enjoying their food and 'wow'd' by how they carefully cut the meat (not just the duck). Wines are pricey right now. But they're working on it. With garlic, gusto & gratitude, Chef Marian San Diego & Carlsbad Foodies

DONGPO PORK BELLY with tallegio-scallion polenta cake and daikon was a confusing. I love pork belly. I love grits. but in the dim lighting, it was hard to distinguish contrasting flavors and textures. I needed more visual clues. I did not properly visualize the dish until we got home and posted photos that were light-adjusted. the duck was a survey course of five regions. Lanzhou: AROMATIC CHILI and DUCK FAT condiment was one of the five regions from the duck series. server recommended as an add for the other four regions, but portion was insufficient for two, much less the other four. Guangdong: DUCK NECK CONGEE (duck-rice porridge with duck-skin cracklings and puffed wild rice). It was a lot more complex and interesting than I would have guessed from the menu description. really quite good. Shandong: caramelized honey crisp apple, parsnips, smoked bamboo, and crispy duck crackling. a muddled and incohesive dish. no center to hold things together. more quiet cacophony than robust harmony. Sichuan: Zhangcha jasmine tea smoked DUCK BREAST with charred scallions and duck jus. perfectly cooked, gorgeous presentation, but underseasoned. would have appreciated a sprinkling of flake salt and cracked black pepper to finish. the Hong Kong BREAD PUDDING with coconut-caramel sauce fell short. I'm a huge bread pudding AND caramel fan but was just okay. genius concept but for me, their reach as often as not exceeded their grasp.

If you have the time, try the four course tasting menu with the beverage pairing. We are not big drinkers and we went with our teens, so we all tried out the non alcoholic pairing. I love food. I love food experiences. This was a delicious food journey and I am thankful my family is always open to try things with me! Beautiful decor inside and out. We had made reservations and were sitting outside. It was like we had our own private seating area, even though there were other patrons. I didn't even notice them until I got up to wash my hands! If you want something more upbeat, inside seating looked like the place to be. Upbeat but relaxed and chill at the same time. The kitchen is mesmerizing and is out in the open so you can watch all the magic. Every member of the staff was SO welcoming from the moment you walk up. Our server Noah with the help of Chelsea led us on our food journey. They made it personal by learning each persons name & food style. Answered any questions and had the best recommendations. Ryan, the Sommelier had fun pairings. It was our first non alcoholic food pairing experience and he explained everything from ingredients and what flavors will bring out certain flavors in the food. He always followed up after each taste. There is literally an army of people taking care of you. The food...so many delicious & decadent layers of each dish. Fun combinations. Fresh, local ingredients. Perfectly seasoned. It was hard to pick one thing from each course! Each plate had a work of art, visually and flavors! I also liked the portions, not too big, not too small. We were able to even share bites with each other. Another fun thing, in the fourth course pairing in the Cerise & Cafe, the ice cube was actually clear without any imperfections. You don't see that every day and just shows the detail that goes into every single thing placed on your table. Already have the menu on my radar to watch for new dishes to go down to try!
