First of all, Yelp lies. They're open on Sundays. At least they were open the Sunday after we arrived. That said, they were slammed and the staff was clearly overwhelmed, even admitting it out loud to the customers in both English and French. I thought this was a bit tasteless. There are some things people should keep to themselves. That and why tell this to your customers to begin with? Perhaps as a tactic to get some of them to leave? Meh. Complaining aside, we eventually were sat and we ordered. My companion had bread and butter, pain au chocolat, and Coca Cola. He was happy with the food minus the fact that he had to ask for butter three times. As for me, I ordered a café viennois and avocado toast. The café was beautiful and tasty, the avocado toast equally so. I think my only gripe about the dish is that the avocado while fresh was missing a little seasoning. Probably one of the better breakfasts we had in Paris. So much so we went to another place the next day and ended up again at Paul for some treats. I stayed at an AirBnB close to Paul so we stopped here for breakfast twice. The first time because we were looking for something and the second time because we liked it so well. The pastries, breads and coffees were fresh and tasty and not too €€€. My friend ordered a latte and got a mocha or hot chocolate, however we believe that she may have confused the cashier with her poor French. If there was a way to online (I didn't see one), we'd do that next time. I think this place is a mega-chain (maybe like Panera) but nevertheless it seemed like a French experience and we enjoyed the food and seating. read more

How in the world have I not reviewed this Paul? This is, for all intents and purposes, the boulangerie I think of when I think of my favorite neighborhood in Paris. Is it a chain? Yes. Do they make incredible bread and pastries? Absolutely, and as such I adore them. Like many in the neighborhood, you'll find me in line bright and early most days for une ou deux baguette(s). One to accompany the butter and eggs I have in the house in the morning, and the second for the cheese I have waiting for me when I get back after a day out and about in Paris. I almost always end up walking away with a tart of some sort (a tart aux pommes if they have one), or a beignet as well. They also have very good coffee, and you really cant go wrong with a cafe american* or a cafe au lait. You can also, of course, sit and dine in, but I've never much enjoyed the ambiance in the back, and if I am staying I'll sit at an outside table (weather permitting). Again this is rare, and I am much more likely to grab a baguette and eat it on the go than to stay. Probably the nicest of the Pauls I've visited, this place has it going on. After a long day of traveling, we needed to get some food in our system and decided to eat here since it was so close to the apartment we were staying at. To our surprise, the employees there were super friendly and nice. We got a pretty good table and had 2 great servers attending to us throughout our dining experience. Since we were quite hungry, we ordered a lot of food--my dad got a slice of quiche plus the drink and dessert, while my mom and I ordered different potato cake dishes (sorry, I don't remember what they're called) plus the drink and dessert. For dessert, we ordered an eclair, a mille-feuille with raspberries, and a lemon tart. And of course since everything was so delicious, we ended up coming here a lot more throughout our trip--once more dining in and two other times for grabbing food to go. The second time around, we had similar food items, but not as many desserts. I also decided to try their hot chocolate, which had looked pretty good the other day we were there, but while I thought it was tasty, it was a bit too rich for my liking. We also tried a different dessert this time--the lemon tart with meringue, which was delicious. It was funny, our server instantly knew what we were trying to order without us even saying anything, somehow he understood the gesture my mom was doing to try to tell him she wanted the one with the meringue on top. He just nodded and returned with the dessert. As for the third and fourth time we got food from them, we just ended up getting a baguette and some croissants and macarons. Oh, and there was a fifth time we got food from Paul's, but it was at a different location (The Louvre), and we didn't realize that we were in line at another Paul's until later on. I guess you could say we were subconsciously drawn to this restaurant chain haha. Overall, I'd say that we had a great experience at this restaurant and I would definitely go back again during our next trip to Paris. Highly recommend this place. read more

Stumbled upon this place traveling between Musée d'Orsay and Norte Dame. This street was super charming and bustling while much of Paris wasn't. At first we were confused if this was a purchase then sit down deal or a sit down restaurant. Eventually we figured out there was both to go and sit down. Out of all the places we ate on our trip, this was one of the few places without English menus. So we took out Google translate and figured it out on our own. The waitress was kind when we needed time to figure out our orders (due to the French menu) and she had decent English. I personally thought the food was just ok, but maybe I just didn't find my dish! Also worth noting, as with many places in Paris, their "ice coffee" is barely cold. read more

Get out google translate & you can figure out most of what's on the menu. Make sure you sit outside facing the street so you can watch all the people walking by. On the go? Go inside and order the Parisian to go with an espresso. So delicious. The crepe & fruit salad was just ok. The eggs with ham was good. The staff is welcoming to tourists for sure; however, I would not be back. Our food was served completely cold since it had been sitting out so long but it was almost like it had been but in the freezer when it was supposed to be a hot dish. It was honestly disgusting how cold the food was. I think our server may had left in the middle of when we were eating and there was miscommunication with her and who took over our table. We have come to Paul for over 5 years and it's always been our favorite. But after the poor service today, we don't think we can come back again. First, they overcharged us for a piece of quiche by 3x the price. It was not on the menu and we were told we could order it at the counter but have it at the table. So we did that. Well, they charged us 12 euros for it when at the counter it only costs 4.80 euros! The fact is that they did not tell us they would charge 3x the price to deliver it to our table when we easily could have ordered it directly at the counter and eat it at the table. Also because it was not on the menu they had a duty to tell us the cost and they did not - they hid the price from us and when we told them that they did, they said there was nothing they could do. Well then put your products on the menu so we know how much we are being charged! It was not a happy surprise to get the bill. Secondly, service was extremely poor. We saw MANY people sit for 10 minutes plus then get up and leave because the server never even came around with a menu. The only way we were able to order was by going up to the counter and asking for the server - and even then she would show up 5-10 minutes later!! We have never had such slow, unresponsive service before in Paris. What should have been a quick in and out breakfast turned into 2 hours of waiting around and being overcharged. Unfortunately after this experience we don't think we will come back, nor can we call this place our favorite anymore. read more

This is by far one of the best Paul's I have been to in Paris. Yes, I know that it is a chain but a few of the other places you may run into may give you nespresso by way of coffee or pastries that were delivered early and never kept for freshness. For my first vacation, we stayed in an apartment around the corner and were able to grab croissants, baguettes and coffee every morning with ease. Now we are staying in Les Halles and actually chose to make the trek across the Saine to grab coffee here instead of other closer locations. It is a large storefront with great outdoor seating and standing room inside. They are always friendly and welcoming with my poor french. Order your coffee to go with a baguette or a quiche and head out to enjoy your day exploring Paris. I always enjoy the pastries. Apple or apricot on any sort of phyllo dough is exceptional or grab a beignet or two and enjoy the way doughnuts should taste (fluffy and not at all oily or heavy). Just remember coffee with milk means latte and black is Americano. I kept forgetting and running back in to ask for small amounts of milk, which they always gladly gave. We rarely stay inside to eat because it is more expensive but they do have a wonderful service area in the back. read more

Paul is located right across from our hotel, which is awesome and dangerous at the same time! I thought I'd had the best beignets in New Orleans, but Paul opened my eyes! These delicate puffs of heaven melt in your mouth and come plain or filled with the most delicious raspberry filling. There's also chocolate, but the raspberry stole my heart! It's wrong to rate a chain 5 stars, I know. But. These were the best and most consistent croissants I had while in France and we tried quite a few places. Paul's turned up warm and perfect each time - at least at this location. I don't have any photos of Paul or the croissants. I was too immersed in the addictive process of inhaling croissants to give a second thought to my camera. This location of Paul is perfectly positioned for people-watching. The prices, as at most places, are different for sit-down versus take-away. In an effort to streamline things even more, there's a special line for people who are ordering "bread only" versus another line that includes people ordering drinks. So things move pretty quickly here. The beignets and croissants are the only things I tried because I couldn't bring myself to order much else. The lightest and most lightly-sweetened doughnuts you can imagine, these beignets were floating in the clouds. The croissants put me in a trance. They had a hint of omelette-eggy flavor, but prominently composed of butter and flakes, just a tad warm, and full of endorphins to boot. When you order one in the morning, they're removed from the baking tray behind the cashier, not from a display window. Heaven. To sum up my love of the croissants here, you only need to know of the conversation I had with my husband on our last day before catching a cab to the airport. My husband: "I'll order the drinks. As mentioned in my review for the location in London Paul went above my expectations as a chain. Of course we went to the smaller independent boulangeries and patisseries in Paris but I did not mind when we stumbled across Paul in this location. The seats outside is perfect for people watching in Saint Germain right on the corner of Rue de Seine and Rue de Buci. We ordered a few pastries and a coffee and sat outside to see the locals and tourists pass by. Perhaps everyone who rated this location fairly low had a much higher expectation of this chain boulangerie and was disappointed when it did not meet it. Regardless my experience was that we had a friendly person behind the counter and register, our pastries were quite good (did not say it was the BEST in Paris and Yelp is not about ranking of who you think is the best either, just your experiences with the business). In addition the areas were kept tidy and everyone before us was respectful enough to throw their own trash in the bins after they were finished. Four stars in my book. :) read more

I visited here often during my 2 week Paris vacation. I didn't realize this was a chain until after my first visit. Regardless of that, the baked goods were beyond my expectations! I would go in and order a couple croissants, with the intention of eating one that day and one the next, however after getting them fresh out of the oven I couldn't resist. They were so buttery and flaky and so delicious that I ate both right then and there while waiting for my coffee (before I even made it out the door- my boyfriend did the same). Fresh baguettes...delicious! Perfect crunchy crust and soft pillowy middle. The palmiers, again delicious! Twice while there we ordered coffee (cafe a lait and cappuccino). When you order coffee, you pay for it at the same counter where you get the bread and pastries, then you take your receipt to the coffee counter. The wait is quite long, however the first time, both of our coffees were so well made and tasted so good that we decided to order the second time. The second time the wait was even longer, then to make matters worse the guy stopped in the middle of making our coffee take over some other task, leaving a few customers to wait even longer. However finally, we got our coffee and to our disappointment, the second time just wasn't as good as the first. read more

We had nutella crepe and fruit salad. The crepe was ok, but the fruit salad was disgusting. I tried a piece of apple, and it was all mushy and tasted like it was rotting. I tried a piece of watermelon, and it was also completely mushy, like it had been sitting there for days and days. Really gross. I was shocked that they were actually selling this fruit salad instead of composting it. Service was also extremely slow (not terribly surprising in such a touristy place...) We arrived at our Air BnB apartment in the 6th arrondissement at 4 pm on a Sunday, and it was almost 6 before we got our act together enough to think about dinner. Burned out on restaurants, we wanted to run to the corner store for some supplies to have a simple dinner at home. Ha! Sunday night in August in Paris? Most stores were closed. We were mis-directed to several stores that were shut (you know, big tip: information on the internet is *not always reliable*). When we ran across Boulangeries Paul, I almost wept in relief. The pastries? Incredible! Light, moist croissants (late in the day, no less), delicious simple sandwiches. We took ours home, getting soaked in a sudden shower along the way. Warm, clean, happy ("we're in Paris! Eating croissants!") and full is the best way to spend a rainy evening. Returning to Paul other times, the food was consistently excellent. Very American-friendly, great coffee, pastries, ham and cheese sandwiches, etc. We grabbed a late breakfast of coffee and sandwich here most days during our recent trip to Paris, and found the wait staff to be friendly, the food to be simple but amazing, and the coffee to do what coffee should do. Great little spot in the St. Germain Des Pres area of Paris. It was about 200 ft. from our hotel. It is a chain, so you can find other locations in and around Paris. The food was decent and the croissants are delicious. Best part is sitting outside on the sidewalk and watching the Parisians go about their day. The staff was wonderful and were very patient as we stumbled through ordering using the little French we knew. I must be in the minority thinking this place is a ho hum chain with just okay to good products. Went here for breakfast at the insistence of a friend. Wish I hadn't listened...the decor is old French and it's charming. The crowd is mostly French, which is nice. While it seems that since most of the customers ARE French, the food would be amazing, but that's not the case. A small glass of OJ, a cup of coffee, either a croissant or a baguette with jam is a hefty 12 euros. The pastries are okay, but nothing to get excited over, or to go out of my way for. It's French and the French seem to like Paul. That said, I'm okay with Paul, I just wouldn't go out of my way to have breakfast or a bakery item from here. read more
