There was another small parking lot closer to the trail. We walked past the camp sites to get to the trail. The sites were on the smaller side, but all of them seemed to have a spigot. I used the flushing toilets before starting the hike. We did the Fern Canyon Trail to Falls Loop Trail- 6.2 miles. The first part was mostly flat, but there is some elevation gain for the loop. We went counterclockwise, but you reach the waterfall quicker if you do the loop clockwise. The 36-foot waterfall might not be the most impressive, but it was nice. There's a fallen tree trunk in between the two streams for you to sit and take some photos. We sat on a bench afterwards and enjoyed the views while having some snacks. I guess we got there at a good time, right before a crowd of people descended. Overall, the forested hike was nice and peaceful, and we also spotted a banana slug. There are some muddy parts though. I wished I read a bit more about the park before going. I would've wanted to do the short trail for Devil's Punchbowl which also has views of the bridge. Darn...

Serene quiet park…read more great photo spots! There's the iconic bridge but in order to get on that beach you have to walk on a narrow wobbling log in the water. Pretty scary for me. I finally did it, with the help of a very kind stranger who held my hand and it felt all better. Interesting how a lot of the fear is in your head. Why is there not a better safer path to get there? It was sold in 2008 and is now a time share called Lighthouse Pointe Resort with 40 modern cabins. No more camping or RV's. Closest place for RV's and camping is at the Manchester KOA or the State of California Manchester State Beach campground (when California has it open - sadly the State facility is usually closed due to California's endless funding problems). The KOA is always open and has very good reviews. The beach is within walking distance and offers a fantastic panorama of a little accessed, natural beach.

We were hosted by Craig who checked in with us often leading up to our excursion, offered adjustments to kayaking time to hit the best weather and tide opportunity. He did a great job explaining safety while kayaking, keeping our group together on the water, vetting out highlight areas before we passed through, pointed out highlights to take note of, and supplied all equipment day of. We had the best time of enjoying 90 minutes of beginner friendly paddling, viewing water wildlife, going through small sea caves, and more! This will certainly be a highlight of our trip that I cannot recommend more!

There was a juvenile seal on the beach alone and our guide commented that this was unusual and that he'd be contacting the local wildlife conservationist to check on the pup. Other information shared during our adventure also supported this. We didn't want the tour to end and I highly recommend this experience to anyone traveling through the area!!

Just magnificent! There's a good sized living room, full kitchen and refrigerator, a small 4 seater dining area, a bedroom (almost entirely taken up by a queen bed) with a sliding door that opens onto a balcony and a full bathroom. I asked for decaf coffee ahead of time and that was waiting for me together with a small bottle of white wine from a local winery. There is no internet unless you connect to the property's wifi which is more than adequate - about 60 mbps in this bungalow. The bungalow temperature is controlled by a thermostat and a self-igniting gas fireplace. These are the plus-es. On the minus side, the balcony had no view to speak of at all, looking mostly at the exit road and the side of the bungalow in front of the Albion. (I think the view from the other bungalow balconies is better.) The furniture was old and very worn. The couch/ pull out bed in the living room was hard and not particularly comfortable to sit on watching TV. The biggest negative was my bathroom (but only the bathroom) was crawling with ants. When I mentioned it to the property contact they were quick to say they'll address but, unfortunately, it was time for me to leave before they could. (My fault for late notification to them). In all, it is a comfortable (not luxurious) stay in a spectacularly beautiful area at a reasonable price. It's a solid 3* accommodation in a 4-5* setting at a reasonable price.

If I could give zero stars I would. We check into our room and immediately see a stain on the…read morefloor. I clean it and it appears it was chocolate milk. I then wonder how dirty the rest of the floor is so I take some paper towels and clean an area and this is what it looks like. I emailed the innkeeper and they responded right away and said they would have someone take care of it in the morning. When we come home from dinner I go to turn the light on in the porch area and it's out. So I again email the innkeeper and he responded quick and said he would have the manager of the day call me tomorrow. So I get a call from one of the owners who didn't seem shocked and was semi apologetic. This cabin was over $400 a night and I would expect a clean and safe room. I asked for a discount and was offered a discount on a future stay and I said I would not be going there again and all he said was "okay and bye" and hung up. So some other thing's wrong in this cabin, slider door to patio, lock broken so the lock is a stick. Shower head is about to come off the wall. I will post pictures of that. The entire property is very unkempt, spider webs and weeds everywhere. Not worth the price we paid.

After a long drive, we went straight for a dip in the hot tub to relax. As we settled in for our stay, we discovered that La Puerta is amazingly well equipped for a vacation rental. The kitchen has just about every tool you can imagine and a surprisingly good spice cabinet (when was the last time you saw cumin and dry mustard in a vacation rental?!). They even put out a blanket that says "La Puerta Puppy" for my dog. The location is ideal. It's less than 15 minutes to Mendocino. We spent most of our time at the house, though, just relaxing, taking in the view and the sound of the waves while we cooked and played some of the games from the small bedroom. We did venture down the hill to Navarro Beach and saw some amazing driftwood structures. Even on a sunny, warm day, we had the beach almost to ourselves. Britton was super helpful with information about the house and the area. She responded quickly to every question I had and provided great tips for what to do and see around Albion and Mendocino. We will definitely be back.

There was a port-a-crib for the littlest. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub and sauna. The kitchen is fully equipped, a true chef's kitchen. The owner is a phone call away for any questions but their guide book answered most of them. Location is a 5 minutes drive from the beach, lots of hikes farther away, kayaking and wine tasting. We were there for a week and could have stayed longer.
