May 4 - 7, 2025 - Cloverdale. First off, I want to say that the staff is 5-star. Friendly and helpful. Now, about the campground. It is rustic. There are beautiful trees. Deer come to visit. Acorn woodpeckers are everywhere. It is near the river. That being said, the campground itself, particularly the RV sites, are in need of repair and upgrades. Many of the sites are not level. Quite a few had areas where RVs or trailers had bottomed out over and over, so deep ruts had developed into the pavement. Some had high inclines just to get into the site, so access could be a major headache depending on your rig. There are four camping sections. Some of the sections have cabins, along with RV sites. Each section has its own bathroom, except for the "C" loop. (The C loop bathroom has been closed for a long while and is being upgraded.) The sites are varied--a few have lots of room with no close neighbor. Others are packed tight together. So maybe look at the campground map when you book. They have water and 30-amp electrical hookups. No sewer hookups, but they do have a dump station. Some of the campers seem to be long term, and they have those portable RV dump tanks. They would drive back and forth with their portables--we were fairly close to the dump station, so it was a bit noisy and busy. Speaking of noisy, the campground is near Highway 101. You can see and hear the highway from camp. Highway 101 is on a ridge above the campground, and the traffic noise and truck brake noises seem to travel down. The river is nice, but there is not a lot of accessible area near the river. We walked down to the river, and there was a woman who was fishing and had her two dogs off leash. They were not friendly dogs. Also, it is very rocky. Not easy traveling. There are only two areas where you can set chairs down, and they are rather small areas. I didn't use the restroom facilities, but I did peek in, and they seemed clean enough, I guess. There were two showers, and three bathroom stalls (but one of the stalls was out of order.) Also of note: the restrooms require a code to enter, but none of our paperwork had the code written on it. We finally figured out that the gate code on the parking pass for our tow vehicle was also the bathroom code. Seems like they should write the code on the map of campground that they give you when you check in. read more

Staff is friendly. I'm very glad I have a Class B van now and not my Class A. There are larger vehicles here but for me the roads are fairly narrow and I would have held my breath a few times had I not been in my van. I had one of the sites that has a considerable incline to get into but easy to navigate and one in it's a nice site. My walks around haven't revealed much trash...some but not much. Some dog poo but not as much as I've seen at other campgrounds. Appears to be quite a few long term tenants but the few I've had interaction with were pleasant. Can hear the freeway but once inside and during the night it's been one of the quieter places I've been. I can actually sleep without my white noise machine. Havent used the facilities...peeked in one and it's "ok" but not sure if I'd use showers or laundry. But I really didn't look that close. read more

I am a member ervof Thousand Trails and so glad I bought one 3 years ago. This campground is... ummmm... well. It needs some updating and attention. Showers in C section (where I was) was being renovated (3 more months). Why am I using the showers you ask? There are no sewer hook ups and only 30amp power. Had I realized this, I may have stayed elsewhere. Staff was nice. Wish the bathrooms were cleaned daily. Don't get me started on the laundry facilities, we went in town instead. We liked the cloverdale community. Would we come back... doubtful. We did make a youtube video on Coolest Life. read more

Our site was littered with trash when we arrived. They offer no sewage but then placed us next to restrooms that were out of service and under LOUD construction! This is a big disappointment and thousands of trails should be concerned that locations like this are destroying their reputation! Needs new management! read more

Easy access from hi-way 101. As a member can't beat $10 a night. If we did not have our Jeep to take side adventures this would be a bit more challenging. The spaces for the most part are deep and narrow which is a challenge for outdoor "living" space to put chairs . The water pressure is low. We were told the system had a couple leaks that have been repaired but have seen little improvement. There is river access but the water is low and a very small "beach". There is a lot of shade from the oak trees. They do have a lodge that carries ice cream treats as well as ice. There's also a children's play structure. read more

I think this was our last straw with Thousand Trails. I waited to give this review until our membership was finalized. Our trip was in Spring of 2025, and although we had many issues with Thousand Trails annual price increases, and run down facilities, we thought we would keep this as a just in case we needed it. But every year prices went up about 100.00 and we couldn't enter without reservations, and yet the people paying more money got to reserve 3 mos sooner than us ( we were paying around 700.00 a year at the time.) They always had issues with our rv each time we arrived. And this last trip we showed up at this park with the Womens showers broken and the only hot water coming into the mens showers, so my husband had to make sure the bathroom was clear so I could use the mens, which was in a permanent on position, but had hot water. The laundry was broken so we had to go into town and used a laundromat. We started staying at State Parks from that point on back up to Seattle. We stayed at four of them for less price than one month of Thousand Trails. They had hot showers, beautiful trails for the dogs, Ocean views, and one Forest Ranger lady laughed at us for asking if we had to bring a tent to set up if we wanted to stay in a no hook up site, which is what Thousand Trails was making us do. She said "why would we require that just because your rv is self sufficient? That's ridiculous!" I think we are a little scarred from the treatment of Thousand Trails, but moving from this to State Parks is like moving from poverty up to a 5 star resort. read more

I just want to say that this staff really came through for our family and friends and threw the best party in the rain and made our kids world. We come here every summer. We've never been here in the rain. We had so much rain, we couldn't use the beach as much and hung out at the lodge with all our kids. The staff pulled out all the stops! They were so nice and welcoming and made our trip so fun for our kids they really came through and made this trip memorable despite the shitty weather. My kids didn't want camping to be over. Friends recommended Thousands Trails(TT) so we decided to give it a try. We are bougie- glampers now after years of tent camping. I am/was skeptical of TT. I read lots of mixed reviews and I feel like post pandemic experiences are vastly different. I'm still on the fence but went with an open mind. First - when driving in, I would say don't judge the place based on some of the "campers" along the road leading in, I mean you can judge - but I was trying to have an open mind-plus TT can't control everything. They were decently parked away from the entrance so I didn't feel unsafe. If you know about Thousand Trails- there is no designated spots, so if you have a longer rig, it can be a bit of a gamble to find a pull through spot or one long enough. Being a holiday weekend we went up a day early to secure a spot anticipating the crowds. No sewer hookups- only water and electricity. They do have a dump station on site and offer "honeypot" services which must be reserved in advance. There's several "grouped" areas. Each group/pod of sites had a shower/restroom facility except ours was being renovated. Other ones were within walking distance (but up hill both ways lol) The park is paved in all sites, but there are some tighter turns so I would recommend taking a walk around if needed to scope out a spot before committing. You can see if you have poison oak/ivy and if you have space to set up chairs etc. We had a grove of poison ivy/oak at the border of our site but it was on the hill and we were able to avoid it thankfully. Some sites are near the cabins but other areas do not have cabins nearby. Also if you are near the restroom/showers be prepared for lots of foot traffic. Some sites are more spacious and others literally have no where to put chairs and hangout. The restroom/showers are free but there's only like 3 toilets in each facility and 2-3 showers. Not all of the toilet stalls shut/locked securely. I would bring some flops to wear as shower shoes. Overall the buildings were clean with good lighting. Park was packed so it wasn't well stocked with tp thru the day but I brought a roll with me just in case. I think they tried to keep up but popular weekends I think is just a lot. People are gross and didn't flush well and the toilets seem "slow" but there's a sign to say hold the lever. It seems the staff tried to keep the facilities clean as they could. There is also normally a washer/dryer outside at these buildings (Not sure if free or not) Enough of the restrooms- Access to river is by foot (there's a road or a trail you can use) or car to the "sandy beach" area - word of caution- it is not sandy or a beach. Water shoes required as it's very very rocky. People put pop ups to claim the limited space. Maybe they will clear out more area for access but as of now, limited places to hangout by the water. Lots of people floating and kayaking - and this year the river is cold and fast- def need to be careful. Fishing could be good but we had no luck (trout) but we did see some fish jumping at dusk. The lodge where you check in has a pool table. Some board/family game area and a tv area. We bought ice cream inside and there's a few trinkets/shirts etc. In the backyard is a small patio to hangout if you needed or wanted to for whatever reason and grill. Not sure if you have to reserve it. There's a small playground, basketball hoop, tetherball and an area for playing horseshoes. The location is great to go to Bodega for the day or explore other areas. The drive to bodega bay is beautiful and you can make a whole day of it. Cloverdale has some shops and good food (El Milagro for Mexican!) we got pizza delivered to our camp one night also (mountain mikes). For gas we went to Renner petroleum to fill up- it's a bit expensive and we aren't members but it was roomier to maneuver our fifth wheel vs Sinclair or chevron. The Old Faithful of California is about 40min away as well as the Sonoma Petrified Forest for a day trip. Lots of wineries close by too! Santa Rosa isn't too far if you have to go to Walmart or more "civilization" Oh and not sure if it's seasonal but only propane fires or charcoal on the grill. No wood fires! They do sell propane if needed. Also cell service was ok but a little spotty, they have WiFi-but it's heavily dependent on where your site is relative to the lodge or their service pole- we had 1 bar so it was useless but you can pay for service as well. We didn't want/need it but they can give you info at the lodge. We took night stroll and saw a fox at the lodge and other wildlife is abundant during the day (woodpeckers, jays, squirrels, lizards etc) For the price of membership I think two-three stays will pay for itself although you are limited by region and affiliates of TT. Overall- I would stay again on a non-holiday weekend for a more rustic vs glamping experience.. I might wait for this location to finish renovating the restrooms though. read more

Ok so the wife and I were looking for a place to go camping close and she found this place. Some people told it was not that good but we wanted to try it for ourselves. We like it a lot the doors are first come first serve. So we found a nice spot in A section. You get good signal if you have Verizon there. We were not far from the river. Good to walk around people are super friendly. Super family friendly got played areas. The grandkids loved the River. Unfortunately you can't have no fires up there. Unkept, crowded, and disheveled to say the least. This park needs a complete revamp or just shut down altogether. Looks like a homeless encampment honestly, and there is homeless actually camping all around the area. Very distasteful. We will definitely not being using our TT membership to stay here ever! read more

We've been going here for about ten years and man has it gone down hill. The last time we visited in the beginning of May the sites were not maintenance. Several sites were not useable because of the electrical boxes not in order. The bathrooms were dirty everytime we used them. Pretty sad considering what it used to be. Thousand trails Russian River is advertised as RV and tent camping. However, this place is actually best for RV camping and not tent camping. The terrain is very healthy so it's hard to find a good camping spot if you're using a tent. Also good to note that the bathrooms in section C are permanently closed and have been closed for the past two years; padlocked shut. We visited this location during the heat wave in July 2024. The river was our only relief during our stay. Also, we found that the people who worked and did upkeep for this campground were very unfriendly and not helpful. For example, we were in a large group that was tent camping and all of us didn't have the paperwork when you first check in. So we were unaware that the restrooms were passcode protected. After driving for a few hours to get there we all needed to use the restroom. So when we spotted one of the groundskeeper in a golf cart we tried to flag her down to ask for the passcode and she stopped her golf cart about 150 away and was yelling back at us that she didn't know it and to ask the front lodge for the code. Kinda rude if you ask me. Just a FYI, The area to get down to the river was very rocky and the current in the was really strong in some of the swimming areas, so if visiting with younger children a life jacket is a good idea! read more

We just spent 9 days here. The campground was well kept. The majority of the campsites are spacious. The bathrooms are dated but pretty clean and tidy. We saw kids playing at the playground. Nice trails throughout the park and 3-5 minute walk down to the river from our site. There was rarely people down there when we were there. read more

We stayed here for four days. Pretty well maintained. They are currently upgrading bathrooms and showers. The whole park is very hilly and can be difficult to navigate if you're not very skilled with a trailer. Our trailer was only 27.5 feet which made it easy but if you have a big trailer, I recommend staying as close to the front entrance as possible. Those are the better spots anyway. Not a whole lot to do in the surrounding areas but if you're passing through, this is a great spot to take a break. read more

Enjoyed playing in the Russian River at this great location just a mile off hwy 101 (exit 525). When checking in be ready to show your driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. The day before check-in we received a call to let us know about the documents needed and directions to the campground. Apparently many people's phones direct them the wrong way. We used Waze and had no problem finding it. I do wish that we would have been notified ahead of time that there was a problem with the water line and the water was unsafe to drink. We would have brought a few gallons. Sites/setting: Many wooded sites available. Maneuvering through the park and the poorly marked one-way roads to pick out your site was tricky with our 33ft TT. Loop A sites 1-16 are member only sites and the closest to the river. Since no sites were available in loop A with the space we needed (we bottomed out trying to back into one of them) and we were only staying one night we choice to go in Loop B to be as close as possible to the river and to the playground. Many site pads are short, but they are paved. It looked to have a good number of "long-term" residents. Amenities/Utilities: Water/electric, no sewer but it does have a dump station and a Honeywagon on Tuesday and Friday (service price $25, same day $35) Cell service was great; however, you can only get on wi-fi at the Lodge. The Lodge had a mini store with snacks, toiletries, first aide supplies, etc. It was after store hours, but the manager opened it up for us to shop. There were also games and a pool table with a nice seating area outside. Each loop has their own laundry and bathroom with showers. We didn't use the laundry facilities, but it looked to be clean. Bathroom was well maintained. No dog park, but they do provide doggie bags. Propane filling station current price $2.80 per gallon. Activities: The river was a lot of fun! Very rocky so bring your water shoes with you! I wish we were there longer and would have brought or rented tubes ($14 1/2 day or $20 full day rental). They have many activities for kids and adults most are held on Saturdays. Very nice playground for the kids - it looked pretty new and had rubber mulch. There was also tether ball, horseshoes, and a basketball hoop. All staff was friendly and helpful. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

Booked a stay here for a couple of days because we didn't know what to expect and OMG! It was AWESOME! Staff was BEYOND AWESOME!! Campground has space for tents, rv's trailers and cabins. We booked a cabin and we did have an issue with our reservation when we got there but the staff was beyond amazing and really took the time to help us and accommodate us the first night. One cabin had a queen bed in bedroom and a futon in the living room, kitchen had small stove, microwave and fridge and bathroom with shower. Another cabin had a full-size and twin bunk bed and a futon in the main room and bathroom with shower. The cabin we reserved had a queen bed in bedroom, twin bunk beds in another small room and a fold out couch in living room and bathroom with tub/shower. The cabin comes with a propane bbq outside for more cooking. A couple of them had small pitches that you could sit outside and all cane with a picnic table. The store, playground and food truck were all closed due to the covid 19 restrictions. They have public bathrooms with showers that they clean regularly. There is a short trail walk to the river or you can drive down. There is a beach area where most ppl go but I found it hard to walk down the soft sand and rocks. However there is another section where everyone goes to start their inner tube ride and that section was perfect for us and our kids. You can walk across the river and there are places to sit under the shade. We spend hours at the river with our snacks and ice chest and chairs. I had my chair in the river the whole day and loved it. There are shallow parts for younger kids and deeper sections for the older to enjoy. The kids even floated down a little but stopped before the faster spots on the river. The scenery is breathtaking and the perfect place to unplug! The town of Cloverdale is amazing with small shops, food places, a bakery, lots of markets and a dollar general if you forget something. Tons of winery's and photo ops. We can't wAit to go back for a longer stay! read more

I am confused as hell why Thousand Trails has this in their portfolio. They should be embarassed. We just came back and were very disappointed. So, holiday weekend, they're at full capacity. The grounds has 3 bathrooms and the middle one is completely closed. The third bathroom (closest to us) had one toilet covered in feces, the other was broken, and one of the shower heads was missing, so water just sprayed everywhere. Like, WTF guys. The first bathroom was working, but in desperate need of cleaning. On the website they have a store listed. The store doesn't look like it's been in use in 3 years or so. Horeseshoe pit, where? Game room, where? Sonoma county is pricey and there's no excuse why this place is such a dump. One star due to location (the river is beautiful) and another star because the staff we met were friendly. Will never return. read more

A common sentiment for many reviews on yelp but worth assigning to this place... if I could give less stars I would. This was the first of two stops in California after 10 days through the Oregon coast. We researched and it appeared to be nice with some favorable reviews and photos. We did read a review warning to scout the location because it can be difficult for a large rv. We figured an 18 foot toy hauler would not be considered large. We were wrong. This place is an absolute dump. From the homeless camped out front in tents and broken down RVs to the poorly cared for grounds with rolling driveways causing almost inaccessible sites. The entryway has a large island of weeds and rocks to separate the entrance and exit complete with bent cement poles to protect it. There is no reason for it, as it causes a narrow choke point to maneuver through. A simple painted line would serve the same purpose and allow more room. We have NEVER and we mean NEVER stayed at a location that is "first come first serve." Something that was not listed until after the reservation was made and emailed to us. WE DID NOT STAY! Instead, I drove an additional 6 hours, for a total of 14 hours to our next location. That is how bad this place is. We were considering the Thousand Trials membership if we found this to be a good representation of the company. We not only will not become members, we will actively avoid any location associated with Thousand Trails in any way. Did I mention this place is an absolute DUMP? Stay away. read more

Come Thursday or early Friday to get the best spots as they're first come first serve. Great river access. Can float from several points north of you down to the campground to get out which is great. This is a great place to stay. I read a lot of reviews prior to booking here and was skeptical due to a lot of bad reviews, so here's the real deal: First, the check-in process -- It went great. The lady was real helpful and gave us a selection of sites to choose from based on the length of our TT. We went down and scoped them out and chose the best one for us. Bring your driver's license, trailer registration (and it better be current or you will be turned away), and proof of insurance. The loop roads are not well marked and very narrow, but you can manage even with a larger motor home. If you have an RV and want to pitch a tent as well, it's allowed - HOWEVER - There's simply no room to do so on most sites. Shade is good on some sites and pretty scarce on other sites. Bathrooms have showers -- FREE -- and they were very clean. I've seen a lot of bad reviews about the bathrooms but on our stay they were well stocked and clean; The stalls, the showers, even the sinks. There's a trail that you can walk to that leads to their private beach or you can drive your vehicle down to it too but you'll have to hoof it from the dirt road to the beach (about 100 yards). It's not huge but it's an awesome swimmin' hole. There's a nice little rapids section of the Russian River that runs through it and there's pockets of deep water right there at the beach if you want to jump off one of the rocks into the river or just swim. We drove to Healdsburg to kayak the Russian River. We put in at Veteran's Memorial Park and paddled to Wohler Rd bridge. This is a nice, all-day paddle, about 8 miles. Took us about 5 hours. We only had one vehicle so we walked across the street from the park to Russian River Adventures which rents kayaks/tubes/etc and paid $25 to have them bring me back to my vehicle once finished. They also have an option package where for $40, they'll actually drive your vehicle to the bottom and it will be waiting for you there when you're done on the river. I can't review the store/rec room that's on-site because they close early and I never got a chance to go inside, however I did see a nice pool table through one of the windows. It was quiet the 3 nights we were there, no late partying or loud music, it was a great camp trip. There's a dump station on the way out and it's free. Thousand Trails has sunk to a new low. I'll admit the 100° temperature didn't help but... it started with the very unfriendly face checking us in at the gate. Definitely not welcoming. This was a pick your own site location. Available sites were barely big enough for our RV while renters and small campers used up bigger spots. The grounds were dirt and weeds - the kind with stickers. Great for dogs. Water pressure was really low. I assumed wrongly that there would be 50 amps available since this area is generally pretty toasty. Wrong. Sites were carved in haphazardly so the area around the parking spot were sometimes at as steep slope. Pretty dismal. Would not recommend- read more

I've been a member here for years and been camping here since I was a kid but this summer there are new owners/management and it's terrible! I miss Chester! All the amenities are false, there is no more store, no activities as listed, no ice, no propane or no more Wi-Fi. It's all false now. You pay for the amenities that aren't even there. Members should get an email stating the changes at this resort. Also a refund. The bathrooms are the nastiest I've ever seen them and so gross. The staff well one particular elderly lady harasses you constantly. She was literally driving in a little tiny smart car on my husbands back while he was trying to park a huge RV into a crappy site. You can't enjoy camping here anymore. The last trip our RV was hit by another camper and the staff did nothing about it. The lady that answer the phone at the lodge lol a double wide trailer is drunk on the phone. We paid for two sites and they send out a false letter and accusations but then apologize and refund my card lol they are going to lose people quick. This place has gone down hill terribly. Super sad to see!!! Don't camp here unless you want to camp at a trailer park. I will never go back. read more

I was really excited when I came across this place online. My family of 5 enjoy finding new places close to home to enjoy the outdoors. But wow, what a disappointment. I have 3 kids and we're staying in a cottage and our water didn't work every time I went to give them a shower or when I was cooking dinner. Not worth $140 a night. We had to call twice and once at 10pm with no call or communication back. The "sandy beach" is all rocks, there's also no game room or billiards as advertised. Also when we pulled up to our cabin there was beer cans everywhere in front. The bathrooms located next to our cottage were also completely closed so we couldn't even use them when our water wasn't working. Upon arrival, no one said anything about no working water or closed bathrooms or I wouldn't have stayed with all 3 of my kids. We won't be returning. read more

Stayed here for the first time this summer, actually our first time staying at a Thousand Trails. We were a little nervous reading some of the reviews and hearing negative comments in general about Thousand Trails. We were especially worried about the FCFS aspect, as well as the reviews of how hard it is to get into sites. I agree that there were many sites that looked difficult to get into. That being said, we have a 30" TT and found a site without any problem that we loved. It looked like there were many other sites that would have accommodated us as well. We arrived on a Saturday, so I was worried about all the weekend campers coming in on Friday that would have taken up all the sites, but we really had no issues at all. The campground was beautiful. The river was low, but that may have been a blessing for my little 3 year old who was able to walk across the river in one area. Another area was much deeper and there were older kids swimming. read more

Where to start? This campground is not the place for a trailer or RV over 20 feet. I'm sure it's fine for tents. You pay first and then have to go find a site. I guess it's ok if there are decent sites to choose from, but after a long day driving, there were only a few options - none good. If we hadn't paid ahead and would have been able to get our money back, we would have left. The campground has very narrow and minimally marked 'roads', most of the sites are awkward to get in to, there is no sewage with only one dump site and you will most likely do a bit of scraping. Yes, the Russian River is close, but you walk or drive down a hill with minimal parking and a gravel beach but no sand. We love to visit the Healdsburg area, but will not be returning to this RV 'resort'! read more

The lady working the station was very helpful, nice and knowledgeable about sites and ease of access. However, for a first come first serve place there were tons of sites marked "site occupied" and they were empty?? Later that day a family showed up and I asked how she got the site and she said after driving around the campground without finding a spot she called up front and they told her to take it?? Seems like "spot saving" but no clue for sure. The camp sites themselves were very very small and crammed up against each other. Our slide out was about 2 inches from our neighbors awning! We heard the neighbors alarm clock bright and early!! Thanks for hitting snooze 8 times by the way! seemed to be lots of permanent residents in the camp as well. The saving grace of this campground was the river! Beautiful! Clean, clear water, excellent rapids for floating down stream. Very kid friendly for swimming as the beach area was very shallow. Overall we would return but only for the river access. Don't get your hopes up about camping in a pretty, open, spacious site, it's pretty much dead, dry and crammed with trailers and motor homes. read more

I didn't like this park. Sites are not design well and not wide enough RVs. Bathrooms were very dirty. Homeless camping outside of the park but I think it's still safe. No full hookups. What I did like was nice walk to river, WiFi coverage was good. Even though sites are frost come first server. Staff had a list of open sites so I didn't need to drive around looking for a spot. read more

Good place for camping! PROS: -Very clean: bathrooms, lodge, grounds, the river. Te whole place is nice and clean. Way better than government run camp grounds. -Quiet: most people keep to their RVs, none of those people that have loud music and groups. Nice! -Electricity and water: at each camp site. This is fancy! -Lodge: nice comfy, air conditioned, TV and Wi-Fi. Super awesome place to avoid the crazy heat of the mid day during the summer. -Cell phone signal: is good, since it's close to the highway. -Mostly good people. -Conveniently located: easy access from 101. -Wine tasting close by. -Private access to the River inside the campground! Not crowded at all! -Tubes for the river! Rentals are $15 for the whole day. CONS: -not a tent place: 95% RV camp sites, so if you are looking for a tent camping experience, just make sure you call ahead. -WiFi is slow. S L O W !!!! Don't count on it if you want to work from there. -No camp fires allowed. -More than double the cost of a normal campground. -Noise: you can hear the cars/trucks driving by on the highway. -Closest town is not very "large". So don't count on eating out or anything fancy. -So Many Rules! They are very strict: no camp fires, only coals, no more than 6 ppl, no pool for 18 or younger, etc etc! read more

This campground is in need of some sprucing up, and they really need to do better at communicating all you need to know for your arrival and stay! You need a code to get in the gate. They sent us a code in an email with our reservation confirmation, but we couldn't open the email at the gate because the cell service was so slow, and then, the code was not correct, so we had to call the "ranger" to get a new code. So have the ranger's phone number and the code written down somewhere. Then they didn't tell us that we were supposed to check in at the ranger station just inside the gate to get a packet of info about the place - info about propane, honey bucket service, ice delivery, activities, etc. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay. People were generally friendly and respectful. The "beach" areas are gravel and our small dogs had trouble walking on it so we ended up leaving them in the RV while we went to the beach. The river water was pretty low but still had just enough flow that we could "tube" from one beach to the next, and walk back. There were a few areas that were deep enough to swim also. My husband got hurt by a few rocks on one of his trips, so be watching for rocks and lift your butt and back up! The beaches got crowded sometimes but not always. You can drive and park pretty close to the main beach area. There is a dirt walking trail that gets you pretty close to it too, before you have to walk on the gravel. Our last 2 days, we couldn't use the bathroom/shower closest to us - they had it locked - supposedly for repairs. I would return but hope they do some work on this place and how they run it! read more

Horrible campground honestly. Very dirty and the Wi-Fi didn't work when we were there. It's a good half mile walk down to the river and there are only two tiny spots to access it that are full of people. The worst stop on our camping trip hands-down. read more

Only giving it a 4 star because there were quite a lot of people not wearing masks but reviewing the campground during a pandemic, it was great. It all depends on what you need and want but the spot we got was absolutely perfect. I have so much respect for forest rangers especially right now and Scott, who checked us in was pleasant, detail oriented, organized and super helpful! Access to the amazing river is the only thing this campground has in its favor. The sites are the size of parking lot stalls. The awning almost touched our neighbors trailer and the hill under the awning made it impossible to put out chairs. There was room in the back of the stall however poison oak was visible and with twin 6 year olds, we didn't chance it. We spent all day at the river and in our trailer. This is a great site for one night or as a pass through site or if you're retired and want to hang out in your trailer. If you're adventurous, bring rafts and inner tubes, pack drinks, lunch, shade and hang out at the water during the peak of the summer day. At the shoreline you'll see a beach across the river, set up camp there and then hike up w your inner tubs and take the rapids down. They're not white caps but since the river is low you do have to watch for higher beds of rock. There was swiftly moving water so be careful - we all wore life jackets. Most of this unkempt RV park is occupied by contractors and permanent Rv's. If that's not bad enough, you have to navigate dusty roads to find a hilly spot. The picnic tables are bleeding splinters & most are on an unstable hillside. The website photos show off lush landscaping, which yeah in March it will be greener. There's access to the Russian River but it's a why bother from early June till... So.... if you can, pass this place up and let them have their contractors and full timers. Did I mention how dirty and dusty it is here? Oh and if you need to use the restroom, don't forget your door code. Thousand Trails: shame on you. read more
