This site was small but we made it work. We had a van and a sedan and 3 tents. We were pretty close to other campers and it was quiet by 9pm. We were just steps away from the beach which is wide and mostly free from debris. We even saw whales! The location is great for watching sunsets. Bathroom is clean. Bring your own hand soap. No showers. Water spigot close by. You can get firewood on site. Closest grocery is Pelican about 15 minutes away. There's raccoons. They got into our cooler and ate our grapes and took off with our butter that was in a ziplock bag. Don't under estimate them. Use the wooden food cabinet or lock your coolers. Note: No cellular reception.

Woke up because some guy was walking right by my tent playing a video out loud. that particular site might be only be good for extroverted heavy sleepers with IBS or something. otherwise, the campground itself is in a nice location. pretty easy to get to, beach was gorgeous and weather perfect (june). had cell service and clean bathrooms. not far from civilization if you forget something. no bug/wildlife issues besides the humans.

The front desk lady was upset because the ring on the motel key was bent and asked us what happened. What happened????? You gave it to us that way! This lodge needs serious updating and we will not return. We are so completely surprised by the good reviews we saw for it. People must have very low expectations. I originally booked a room at Ocean Cove Lodge for May 25-26 because the Booking.com listing…read moreindicated that the room had a hot tub. Before my arrival, I spoke with the property by phone and was told that the room I had booked actually did not have a hot tub. Since having a hot tub was important to me and was one of the reasons I made the reservation, I had to book a different room at the same property for the same dates that did have one. I discussed the situation directly with Sam, the owner/manager, and he told me that he would resolve the issue and that the original reservation would be refunded. Booking.com subsequently told me that they could process the refund, but they needed written confirmation from the property stating that the refund was approved. Booking.com contacted the property requesting this confirmation, and I also contacted Sam myself. Unfortunately, despite Sam having already promised me that the issue would be resolved and the original booking refunded, he never followed through. I sent multiple emails asking him to simply confirm the refund to Booking.com, including follow-up messages after receiving no response. None of my emails were answered. This was not a case of me simply changing my plans or deciding that I no longer wanted the room. I rebooked because I was specifically informed by the property that the room I had originally reserved did not have the amenity it had been advertised with. I then relied on Sam's assurance that the original reservation would be refunded. Mistakes in online listings can happen. What made this experience particularly disappointing was the way it was handled afterward. Sam personally told me that he would take care of the problem, yet when Booking.com needed a simple written confirmation to issue the refund, he stopped responding altogether. I gave Sam and the property multiple opportunities to resolve this privately before writing a review. Unfortunately, my repeated attempts to contact him went unanswered. Based on my experience, I would be very cautious booking here. The inaccurate listing was frustrating, but the much bigger issue was the lack of follow-through, communication, and accountability after the owner/manager had personally promised to resolve the problem.

This little guest house was just perfect for our 1 night stay in the Russian River Valley. The home had everything we needed- couch, tv/movies, kitchen, comfy bed and an additional sofa bed, cuteness throughout, great patio with a chiminea to keep you warm, and was nestled in a little country town in the woods of Monte Rio. You can walk to the river which is down the road, and you can rent kayaks for the day as well. Cecile, the owner, lives on the property, but this was still very private. She let us stay until 3:30pm on our day of "check-out". We walked a block to dinner at Cafe les Jumelles (see my review), but when the weather is good you should bring groceries and cook a meal at home, and eat under the stars outside. The cottage itself is adorable, clean, and includes all the essentials (towels, dishes, kitchen, clean linens, etc.) The patio in between the rooms is really cute and feels secluded. Cecile, the owner, has a house on the front of the property, and she couldn't have been nicer about answering our questions about Monte Rio and the other nearby Russian River towns. We probably wouldn't have even seen her if we had not gone out of our way. Monte Rio is cute, quaint, walkable little town. That said, it has plenty of food/resturants and a crazy little local dive bar and movie theatre right nearby. Guerneville (the main little town in Russian River) is also only about 4 miles away and includes more options (a small brewery, sporting options, Armstrong Redwoods, a bookstore, lots of restaurants, etc.) The entire area is a great escape from the city and is only about 1 1/2 hours away! And I would definitely recommend the Garden Cottage Duo over a nearby hotel or inn.
