We hired Paul Coffey Construction to completely renovate our home in 2020 and we are extremely pleased with the results. Paul's proposal clearly defined what was included and not included. The team worked very well with our designer. Paul's team stuck to the budget and clearly communicated all changes. They used trustworthy subcontractors (I'm thinking of HVAC and plumbing as I write this) who stood behind their work well after the project completion. One anecdote...after a lengthy delay getting some door screens due to a supply chain issue, Paul made sure they were installed, well past the project end date. Overall we're delighted with the results and continue to enjoy our dream home every day. We would hire them again for projects large and small. read more

I have recommended Paul/Coffey Construction to everyone I know looking for a construction or remodel contractor. After spending hours researching, calling and meeting with other contractors who never sent the estimate they said they would get to me "this week" (and I wouldn't ever hear back), Paul is a true man of his word. If he says he'll do the job - big or small - he'll get back to you and show up as agreed. In addition to he and his crew doing an excellent job, they also go above and beyond. When a portion of my roof was removed and we had a surprise rain, Paul and his crew were at my place at 6 a.m. on a Sunday morning doing what was needed. More recently, an issue arose and Paul came out at 10 pm to check things out. You're in good hands with Paul Coffey Construction. read more

Paul and team worked on our kitchen, bathroom remodel and ADU, laundry conversion. Our remodel was smack in the middle of COVID and despite supply chain challenges, Paul and team were able to complete the remodel within time and with high quality. Paul's team, especially Tim, patiently answered our questions and came up with unique solutions for last minute and unexpected issues. Paul and his team are super detail oriented and it shows in the quality of work his team delivers. We are loving our home and extremely pleased with how everything turned out. Even months after the remodel was completed, Paul was attentive when we had issues from the historical rains. Even though the issue was not related to work that Paul's team had done, he came out and inspected the issue on a weekend and helped identify and fixed it. We are appreciative of the work Paul and his team have done and refer him to our friends and neighbors all the time. Big thanks to Paul, Tim, Gavin, Steve, Sean and rest of the team for making our dream home come true. read more

The best. First off, we were fortunate enough to live next door to a gorgeous home renovation done by Coffey Construction. So when it came time to choose a contractor for our long overdue kitchen remodel and principal bath build, we already had a "front row seat" to their work. The process of working with them was a quality experience from start to finish and we are thrilled with final results - see here https://www.instagram.com/p/CjkCV7FudKG/ What you don't see is that this was all done during the pandemic! These guys consistently delivered. As you can imagine everything was shifting and changing by the day. Didn't phase Paul + team. They were stellar at sourcing materials and adjusting timelines in order to keep promises and stay on schedule. The were responsive and extremely patient (taking time to answer my endless questions). It's not just that they are experts, made great suggestions and gave valuable opinions, they always went the extra mile to make sure my husband and I were satisfied and that we were all on the same page. Paul, Tim, Gavin, Steve, Sean, you know who you are...we can't thank you enough! read more

Paul Coffee Construction recently completed a large remodel of my home in San Mateo. The quality of work was excellent, the price was far and it was a pleasure to work with each of his team leads that were collaborators. Communication was excellent during each phase of the project. Going through the Permit process was seemless. I would not hesitate to hire Paul & Team for my next project. read more

Paul and his team were great to work with from beginning to end. We did a remodel and addition to our home. We had a lot of engineering involved in our project because we are on a big hill. Paul's knowledge of building and engineering was extremely valuable! Paul's team and all his subs were great, honest and did a quality job. We are thrilled with how our project turned out and would use Paul Coffey construction again and again read more

I needed a job done on my porch. Paul came out and looked at the job, gave a price. Steve came out and did the job in a day. He came back the next day to put the finishing tips on the job. I came home from work and the frosting on the cake was at the base of the post. The job came out, well.......Even better than I expected. I really want them to do more jobs at my house!! I can think of two right now. Paul, I will be contacting you for the other two jobs!! read more

Not enough stars for Paul Coffey Construction! He and his crew are professional, efficient, high quality, and nice, nice guys ... I've worked with them on 3 projects that started with demolishing old original houses and ended with stunning new homes. They take great pride in their work, they don't cut corners, and they get the job done in the best possible way. Anyone who has the opportunity to work with Paul and team is very lucky indeed! read more

Paul and his team are true professionals. Working on project with coffey construction and to say Paul and his team are the best contractors I have dealt with are an understatement. Professional thorough and reasonably priced. 5 out of 5 for Paul and his team! read more

I defintely would recommend Paul. We recently used Paul's company to fix a problem we had with our master bedroom ceiling structure. He came on time to examine the problem. He provided a quote when he said he would. And his team completed the work on time and at the quoted price. We were very satisfied with his work. read more

Paul & Team did a 5-6 month remodel project for me. They gave helpful ideas & opinions, were very easy to work with from start to finish, understanding when a couple items didn't get communicated as we thought, coordinated all sub contractors (and their subs did great work too). They are quick to respond, even months after the project is done. So happy to have found them. Paul and Joe are awesome! read more

Paul and his crew is hands down best in business. This review is long over due. I really needed to put Paul's work to the test before I write this review. Back in 2011, I noticed the windows and sliding door area was leaking heavily. There was severe mold and dry rot already taking place and I needed help fast. My lack of knowledge led me to believe that the windows needed replacing but Paul explained to me the windows may not be the culprit. My siding was over 40 years old and needed replacing I took his word for it and he ended up with replacing my siding, windows, and sliding door in just a couple of days. Winter after winter, not a single drop of water! I also had a leak in a light-well that started back in 2014 and I told him I eventually want to do some major renovations in that area. He advised instead of just doing major repairs, he'll install a corrugated roof. Again, winter after winter...not a single drop. His work and skill set speaks for itself. Paul will remain on the top of my list of contractors. Most importantly, Paul listens! He will take your issues and concerns and present you with a solution tailored specifically for you. read more

Paul and his team just finished a deck project for me. I gave Paul a simple description of what I wanted and he transformed this in to an excellent finished product that exceeded my expectations! Fair price, great attention to detail, very responsive. Would highly recommend Paul and team! read more

I had a great experience with Paul Coffey Construction. Paul was able to fix an upstairs floor problem that others were afraid to tackle. He was able to quickly complete the job on time and on budget. He had a great attitude about the project and made me feel confident throughout. I am very happy with the work he did. The thing I liked most about working with Paul was his honesty. It was immediately clear that he was going to get the job done for a fair price. I didn't get that "salesman" feel that I often get with people looking to upsell etc. read more

We had an amazing experience with Paul and his team! Our project was a slightly bigger one, involving a structural improvement and building dormers into our finished attic of our old house. His team was incredibly fast and organized in opening the roof, placing a steel A-frame, and closing it back up. Because our house is old (1870s!) we of course found numerous other issues along the way, such as our back facade needing to be redone as the wood was so rotten that water was leaking in during the rainy season. When I asked Paul about replacing the back wall, he offered an extremely reasonable price, even though he already has us locked in as his clients and probably could have gotten a lot more out of it. Finally, our project involved the nightmarish experience of getting permits through the San Francisco department of building inspection, and having inspections at numerous points in the project. Paul was amazing at pushing the project along at several points where the city was causing a delay, whether at permitting or inspection. Overall, I found Paul and all of his employees to be exceptionally professional, competent, and hard working. I could not recommend them strongly enough, and I will definitely be reaching out to them if we take on another big construction project! read more

Paul did an amazing job on a new exterior staircase at my house. He was: -FAST. He came by on Friday to look at the site and delivered the estimate on Saturday. He started work on Monday and the job was done by Friday afternoon. -RELIABLE. He and his fellow carpenter Steve showed up for work when promised, on time, no surprises. -Extremely COMPETENT. He seemed to plot out the entire project in his head the first time he looked at the site. He offered sensible advice about replacing a window prior to adding the staircase (and then executed the window swap in a couple of hours). I asked for a few tweaks in the middle of the project, which would probably have annoyed/flummoxed the average builder, but Paul's answer to every request was "no problem." -FAIR. His rates are good for any builder, but considering his skill level, his rates are great. I completely agree with Shawna G. here--Paul just exudes integrity as well as competence. read more

Steve @ Paul Coffey was brilliant on our small/medium project: to split a sunroom, expand the opening into the house, replace the floor & replace all the outward windows & sliders w/ new windows & sliders. Steve was very diligent about keeping our costs updated as we made a few more additions to the project scope. We paid exactly what they said we would pay. Steve and his subcontractors were all brilliant, showed up when they said they would and most importantly did great work and created two beautiful new spaces for us in our home. Highly recommended! read more

Paul and his team did an amazing job, I cannot say enough good things about them. It was a small but tricky project (I was grandfathering a small cottage into the main house to add 2 new rooms). Paul was very diligent, picking up on things that the engineers failed to address to make sure everything would pass inspection. He also added design suggestions such as having a vaulted ceiling versus a flat ceiling, which gave the room a much more airy feel, and my sons piano playing sounds amazing because of the acoustics! He supplied all the materials, including windows, doors, floors and paint so I didn't have to think about any of that. The lads that work for him are great - friendly, respectful and committed to doing a good job. In summary, very high quality work at a very reasonable price read more

Paul and his team recently re-modeled our garage. They did an awesome job and we're super pleased with how it turned out. Everyone was easy to work with and everything was done efficiently and well. Paul Coffey and team were great to work with! Not only reliable, creative and professional, but also personable and engaging. We bought an old fixer upper and Paul's crew helped us quickly realize the potential to turn this sweetheart of an old house into a beautiful gem we call home. Family and friends constantly remark on how welcoming and cozy our home is, as well as how gorgeous it is. It was adding more character that helped us set the flow, from new crown moulding to a deck off our kitchen and a unique, huge pergola in our garden that helped create an outdoor living room, we are loving life! For folks looking for quality work by people with a high work ethic, who are fair and delightful to work with, give Paul and his team a go! read more

Paul and his team handled two projects for me in the last year. They fixed some exterior siding on our house that had warped and they also updated our detached garage to make it a recreation room for our kids. Paul and his team just completed a fantastic deck, serving as a beautiful addition to our house and creating an indoor/outdoor living environment. Paul and each member of his team were both consummately professional and enjoyable to work with. Not only did Paul have helpful and cost-saving suggestions to change our initial architectural/engineering plans, but he facilitated the communication with others working on our project in addition to collaborating with the city, as needed, for permitting. Probably most importantly to those reading this, costs did not change once construction began, a rare feat in any construction project. Paul's team remained on time throughout and were able to accommodate additions that we requested along the way. We all loved having them around and hope to have another project we can bring them in for soon! read more

Excellent experience, Paul was highly professional from beginning to end. I could not be more pleased with the work that he and his crew did in my apartment in Cole Valley -- he was prompt and courteous and the price he quoted me was the price I paid. I contacted Paul Coffey Construction and some other contractors to fix some long-neglected dry rot issues at our home. He responded immediately and did a thorough inspection of our home, even checking out the attic. Paul agreed to do the dry rot repairs, but recommended getting a roof inspection as well. He patiently explained how building codes had changed and how some of our construction was not up to standard. Paul and his crew completed the visible dry rot work quickly, neatly, and respectfully, cleaning up each day. They are true craftsmen, researching and carefully matching our old siding and paint. Their prices are very fair. Paul also recommended a wonderful roofing company, Landmark Roofing, who gave us an excellent price (see separate review). Unfortunately, the roofers discovered more dry rot under the old roof. The crews of both companies worked together to remediate our issues and to provide a beautiful and functional new roof in less than 3 days! I've already planned to call Paul Coffey for another project next summer. We are really impressed with his work ethic, reliability and quality work. read more
