The team worked very well with our designer. Paul's team stuck to the budget and clearly communicated all changes. They used trustworthy subcontractors (I'm thinking of HVAC and plumbing as I write this) who stood behind their work well after the project completion. One anecdote...after a lengthy delay getting some door screens due to a supply chain issue, Paul made sure they were installed, well past the project end date. Paul and his crew is hands down best in business. This review is long over due. I really needed to put Paul's work to the test before I write this review. Back in 2011, I noticed the windows and sliding door area was leaking heavily. There was severe mold and dry rot already taking place and I needed help fast. My lack of knowledge led me to believe that the windows needed replacing but Paul explained to me the windows may not be the culprit. My siding was over 40 years old and needed replacing I took his word for it and he ended up with replacing my siding, windows, and sliding door in just a couple of days. Winter after winter, not a single drop of water! I also had a leak in a light-well that started back in 2014 and I told him I eventually want to do some major renovations in that area. He advised instead of just doing major repairs, he'll install a corrugated roof. Again, winter after winter...not a single drop. His work and skill set speaks for itself. Paul will remain on the top of my list of contractors. Most importantly, Paul listens! He will take your issues and concerns and present you with a solution tailored specifically for you. read more

We had an amazing experience with Paul and his team! Our project was a slightly bigger one, involving a structural improvement and building dormers into our finished attic of our old house. His team was incredibly fast and organized in opening the roof, placing a steel A-frame, and closing it back up. Because our house is old (1870s!) we of course found numerous other issues along the way, such as our back facade needing to be redone as the wood was so rotten that water was leaking in during the rainy season. When I asked Paul about replacing the back wall, he offered an extremely reasonable price, even though he already has us locked in as his clients and probably could have gotten a lot more out of it. Finally, our project involved the nightmarish experience of getting permits through the San Francisco department of building inspection, and having inspections at numerous points in the project. Paul was amazing at pushing the project along at several points where the city was causing a delay, whether at permitting or inspection. Overall, I found Paul and all of his employees to be exceptionally professional, competent, and hard working. I could not recommend them strongly enough, and I will definitely be reaching out to them if we take on another big construction project! read more

Paul did an amazing job on a new exterior staircase at my house. He was: -FAST. He came by on Friday to look at the site and delivered the estimate on Saturday. He started work on Monday and the job was done by Friday afternoon. -RELIABLE. He and his fellow carpenter Steve showed up for work when promised, on time, no surprises. -Extremely COMPETENT. He seemed to plot out the entire project in his head the first time he looked at the site. He offered sensible advice about replacing a window prior to adding the staircase (and then executed the window swap in a couple of hours). I asked for a few tweaks in the middle of the project, which would probably have annoyed/flummoxed the average builder, but Paul's answer to every request was "no problem." -FAIR. His rates are good for any builder, but considering his skill level, his rates are great. I completely agree with Shawna G. here--Paul just exudes integrity as well as competence. read more

Paul and his team did an amazing job, I cannot say enough good things about them. It was a small but tricky project (I was grandfathering a small cottage into the main house to add 2 new rooms). Paul was very diligent, picking up on things that the engineers failed to address to make sure everything would pass inspection. He also added design suggestions such as having a vaulted ceiling versus a flat ceiling, which gave the room a much more airy feel, and my sons piano playing sounds amazing because of the acoustics! He supplied all the materials, including windows, doors, floors and paint so I didn't have to think about any of that. I contacted Paul Coffey Construction and some other contractors to fix some long-neglected dry rot issues at our home. He responded immediately and did a thorough inspection of our home, even checking out the attic. Paul agreed to do the dry rot repairs, but recommended getting a roof inspection as well. He patiently explained how building codes had changed and how some of our construction was not up to standard. Paul and his crew completed the visible dry rot work quickly, neatly, and respectfully, cleaning up each day. They are true craftsmen, researching and carefully matching our old siding and paint. Their prices are very fair. Paul also recommended a wonderful roofing company, Landmark Roofing, who gave us an excellent price (see separate review). Unfortunately, the roofers discovered more dry rot under the old roof. The crews of both companies worked together to remediate our issues and to provide a beautiful and functional new roof in less than 3 days! I've already planned to call Paul Coffey for another project next summer. We are really impressed with his work ethic, reliability and quality work. read more
