I had a bit of a hard time finding the place. So when you go, you need to turn in where it says Somis Ranch Apartments. It looks like Camarillo City Hall is right there also. The berry stand is "behind" Crossroads Shopping Center on the corner of Somis and Las Posas. The stand is set back behind the strawberry field, so it is not right on Somis Rd. Hope that helps! It's located in the beautiful city of Moorpark. Somewhat situated in a semi residential street. There's no parking lot, just street parking. We came around 10 am and there was already quite a bit of people there. There's a sign at the front that says to pick at your own risk. The regular customers came prepared with big buckets or wagons and pruners. They have medium sized white buckets you can borrow at the entrance to collect your persimmons. Then you make your way up the hill, which is pretty steep. There are lots of fully ripened persimmons on the trees of varying sizes. They had another section further up that was still cordoned off, perhaps not yet ripe. They have two different varieties of persimmon trees throughout the farm. We had a blast picking persimmons for a good hour. The persimmons are sweet and at $1.50 a pound definitely worth it! We got about 25 pounds which will last us quite a while. I'd definitely come back again next year prepared. *** I wouldn't recommend it for elderly with difficulty walking since the hill has some steep areas and is not level. Also beware with toddlers walking around by the trees as there are several small branches sticking out that are perfectly eye level. Today there was a woman that had a nasty fall while picking. Paramedics had to come and take her to get medical assistance.

It is $18 a bucket but that is SO MUCH! 3 of us picked about a half a bucket in 45 minutes so it was about $9. There are about 60 long rows to pick, chairs or benches at the end of each row and restrooms if needed. We have come with 3-15 year olds and always have a really nice time. Quail Run Ranch is a unique and one-of-a-kind ostrich farm that is basically out in the middle of…read morenowhere. You might not realize how huge and dangerous some of these birds really are, but they average about 9 feet to 12 feet tall and from 250 to 350 pounds. And, they can be quite deadly. During the mating season, the males will instantly try to attack you if you get close. They've got about 6 to 10 different ostriches in separate fenced off areas. If you pay a few dollars for a tour, they will walk you down and show you the different ostriches they have, as well as provide some pretty interesting ostrich facts. Their feet are crazy as they are the only two toed bird on earth. Looking at them it is easy to see how they are related to dinosaurs because it looks just like a dinosaur foot. You can also buy ostrich eggs if they have them available, which are equal to about 24 to 36 eggs. The flavor and consistency is actually pretty good as well and very similar to chicken eggs. They also sell honey and a bunch of other things. Also, in certain times of year, you can go and see the baby ostrich chicks that they raise. If you're feeling adventurous, this is definitely worth a trip, especially if you have kids. This has become a fun stop we started making on our annual visit to the California Poppy Preserve in Antelope Valley. I would call ahead and see what's going on with tours and everything else.
