I have a lot to say about this place. My first time here was amazing. I fell in love with the food, the location (it's near my house) and the owner seemed really kind. I tried the kibbeh, rice, vegetarian and meat dolma. The kibbeh was not that great. The inside was sort of soggy, I didn't care for it. The rice was amazing, and both dolma were amazing. My boyfriend and I loved it. At this point I would have given this place a 5. I returned again and placed a to go order. This time I got a chicken shawarma, fries, and rice. I wanted the meat dolma, however, apparently they didn't have any. This was disappointing to hear because they were so good the last time. The first time I came in, the owner jokingly made fun of me for eating rice with kibbeh. However, the second time he was being very rude about me eating rice without meat. I felt very attacked. I don't see why you would ridicule a customer for this. You should be happy for the business. Furthermore, the chicken shawarma was very greasy. The fries and rice were good. Although, I got ripped off! I took a picture of the receipt as proof. The chicken shawarma is supposed to come with fries. I was charged for them separately and paid more for the fries than I did for the rice and even the chicken shawarma. I tried telling the owner that the fries are included in the order of the chicken shawarma and I showed him the picture of the menu as well as my receipt. He was ACTING clueless. I gave up, 6 dollars is not the problem but being deceptive and ripping off customers is a problem. At this point it's a generous 3 stars I returned once again a couple of days later for the meat dolma. This time they had them, however, this time they were not good. I also got rice and it was mediocre. This was very unfortunate because the only reason I had come here previously was for the meat grape leaves and RICE! Shocker. I don't know if the grape leaves were old or what but they did not taste as good as the first time. Also, they were falling apart. I hardly ate any. Therefore, this place only deserves 1 star. One thing that I do like is that they don't ask for tips, however I'd rather have the option to tip than be ripped off or overcharged. The menu should reflect what the customer is receiving. If it is included on the menu, there's no reason why I would pay an extra 6 dollars for fries. Although they were pretty good, could get better and cheaper ones for a dollar at Mcdonalds. I have never seen plain fries at this price. Especially at a place like this, especially since they were supposedly included. Customer service is very important in business and ripping off your customers is not a good idea if you want them to keep returning. Also, consistency in food is important, especially if you choose to rip off your customers. read more

A tidy, friendly little place With some sweeping, Homemade flavors! I grew up with a Lebanese grandfather who taught me how to cook a lot of this food. this place is more modern Syrian, taking the flavors of that era and turning it up quite a few notches! The seasonings and the cooking style make this food much more colorful and interesting! The cook is the owners wife and she is all smiles and friendliness. They left a successful clothing business in Syria to come to the USA. He still wears very nice shoes to work! His business style is classic retail, which is sorely missed in this modern age. Very attentive and all-around nice. We had tabbouli, chicken kebab with rice, beef Kefta, crispy pita bread with muhummara (A walnut and sweet red pepper dip), karnabeet (Fried cauliflower), kibbe and hummus. This place offers one of kind and fresh food. Being from Dearborn I am very picky about my middle eastern food. However, Pattternz provides very flavorful and fresh food that it's worth the drive from Dearborn to Sterling Heights. It's owned by an elderly couple who have years of experience of cooking. I recommend trying Berek, which has a very creamy. Also, the ambience is unique with pictures of Damascus placed all over the walls! I was worried at first because I've never had "Syrian" food, but after reviewing their menu and the positive reviews on Yelp it appeared that the food was similar to Mediterranean or Lebanese food, which I love. I went in today to order and was greated by the owner, super nice guy and very nice, clean and beautifully decorated (my wifes words) restaurant. I ordered the vegetarian grape leaves, yogurt, fried Kibbie and hummus. I can honestly say this was the BEST food I've ever eaten from this genre, EVER. And yes, I've eaten in Dearborn etc. I can't recommend this place enough. I will be back and recommend you go too. read more

Great food, wonderful owners, extremely clean. We arrived at Pattternz for the first time right as the were closing. We would have come back another day, but the owners welcomed us and insisted we stay regardless. How often does that happen nowadays? We weren't very hungry so just shared an appetizer and an entrée. We had the muhammara which was excellent and the Dawood Basha which was great as well. Both were large portions and very reasonably priced. The owners were very kind and we really enjoyed the meal. If you want something slightly different than the typical Lebanese food you find all over Detroit, I would recommend Pattternz. We'll be back. read more

Can you say rip-off? We were there today & ordered a Chicken Schawarma DINNER. We were quite surprised when the waiter appeared with a small plate that contained perhaps a tablespoon of hummus, 1/2 cup rice, a small mound of salad & approx 3 oz of chicken. We thought that was the salad, but the waiter claimed that was a "dinner." All for the princely price of $15.95. They didn't even give you bread or water with your dinner. The food wasn't great & to add insult to injury, they add a SERVICE CHARGE (for waiters) to your bill. We told the waiter we'd never be back. This is a small restaurant in strip mall, but don't let that dissuade you, as they serve phenomenal Syrian food. The owner works the front and he was very friendly and accommodating. My wife and I love Middle Eastern food, but had never had Syrian food. We are glad we came, and we will definitely be going back. We ordered a lamb dish (Kabsah), a beef dish (Dawood Basha) and a chicken dish (Mloukhiah). The flavors of each dish were so good, and so different from each other. I just want to start by saying that I don't write reviews for any restaurant and for me to be writing a review about this place means that I like it a lot! When I first read the Yelp reviews, I saw that the people that gave this restaurant a low rating were complaining about the owners accent. I would just like to say that you're eating authentic ethnic food that is not from your local white man trying to experiment with spices. Therefore, authentic ethnic food comes with ethnic people and reviews are based on the quality of food, NOT the accent of the person. Furthermore, I've never been to this restaurant before and I have no affiliation to the owner, therefore my judgement is fairly unbiased. The food here is truly remarkable. I can confirm that they do serve authentic Syrian food that tastes like back home. The chicken shawarma is delicious and it has just the right amount of spices and garlic. It's fairly hard to find any truly authentic food in the states, and the fact that this place has that, is very impressive. The owner is also very kind. Just had lunch here for the first time it was all excellent. Have to agree with all the other reviews (except for Angela's). I had baba ganoush which was very different from any I've ever had but much, much better. The flavors exploded in your mouth. I had the lunch special chicken shawarma with rice and fattoush salad very good. Again just a tad different but net is reasonable since it's a different part of the Middle East. I thought that the owner was very pleasant briefly met his wife. You can tell he's very proud of her cooking, for good reason. Also the restaurant was very, very clean. Such a hidden gem! This was my first time trying Syrian food and I was impressed. We ordered beef kabsah and meat sandwich- both we delicious. Kids had chicken tenders/fries - it was terrific as well. The restaurant is squeaky clean (including the restroom). The service was fast and the owner seemed really nice ( gave us free rice pudding which was outstanding). Great, great great!!! Stopped here in search of a Mediterranean restaurant and was totally surprised Had the roasted cauliflower, delicious. My husband had the Laban & cucumber salad, he ordered the small and still more than he could eat. They also brought us the Muhammara red pepper dip and pita chips it was great also, very flavorful. For our entrees my husband had the "Meat in Platter" he thought it was delicious and huge helping, he could only eat half. I had the lamb Kabseh with rice, so tender, moist and delicious, it was a huge serving I wasn't able to eat half. The best part was the owners daughter, she told us she was six, she brought us our menus and talked to us while we reviewed the menu, made suggestions and was a delight.
