As a Syrian myself, I can attest that this is genuinely the best Syrian Food I have had anywhere other than in Syria itself!!!!!!! I ordered the grape leaves (with meat) and this is the first restaurant to ever get it right. And not just right, perfection. I swear to God it tasted exactly like how it does in Syria. Like I said I never had this experience in the United States other than when my grandma visits and cooks at home. Delicious food! My boyfriend (born and grew up in Lebanon) said that this was the most similar to his mom's cooking Super friendly people that just want to give you good food and hospitality! A cozy, homey spot, fairly quiet and laid back. The owner does it all here, has some help in the kitchen at least. He seems pleasant. They placed chairs between tables, not sure for what purpose, it made it an obstacle to get out of chairs mostly. They gave us a bottle watered after sitting to help quench us upon arrival. I have to give all a head up, they do charge $1 for each bottle, found that out on the bill later. We started with 2 of their fresh lemonade and mint beverage, 6 piece order of falafel, small hummus and a small baba ghanouj, medium pattternz salad, small 3 piece grape leaves, chicken shawarma, chicken mloukhiah. The muhammara is sweet, we were given a small plate to try it out. The lemonade with the mint is nice and quite refreshing too. The baba ghanouj here is smokey and slightly sweet from the pomegranate, which is the drizzled sweet sauce on it. It has minced garlic, diced peppers and the pomegranate sauce atop. The hummus is yummy and so smooth. The veggie grape leaves are moist, slightly tart and quite flavorful. Each leaf has a potato slice on top. The chicken shawarma is moist and really nicely flavored. The salad with the shawarma is really tasty too. The rice is even flavorful, slightly sweet from the raisins smattered about. The 6 pieces of falafels were piping hot, unbelievably moist and nicely crispy on the outside. The mloukiah is stewed spinach, it's not bad, the spinach and chicken is lacking in flavor for me. The chicken is perfectly cooked and moist. The spinach is earthy and healthy. We ordered way too much food. It's all good. The pattternz salad was not as good of a dressing for me as the fatoosh that came on the side of the shawarma. The fatoosh is a better salad for my liking of the two. I had this place on my list for a while now, I missed the Yelp event that was there last year but read all reviews and was very curious to try them. Finally decided that today is the day to try Syrian food. Ordered via doordash which ended up being an issue since I arrived to pick up my food but the order was not there. Had to wait 20 minutes for making it. It's ok, I understand things can happen. The owner was very friendly but barely spoke English so keep that in mind. Don't recommend ordering via phone, better option is definitely doordash, although not everything is on the list. I wanted to try falafel and fried kibbeh but it's not available. That it's a shame, hopefully the owner will adjust the menu options on doordash to include more items from their large menu. To the food... It was amazing! We ordered Horak Isbao (Main Dish) Vegetarian Meal (Mujjadara, salad, cheese berek & Muhammara), Meat in Platter (Main Dish) and Yalanji (Appetizer). Everything was very good, meat dish and cheese berek was for my Hubby, but the rest of the items are vegan so I could enjoy them all. Flavor is so different than your typical kabob places and you definitely taste that it's homemade. Grape leaves (Yalanji) were the best I ever had, but the most amazing thing was the Muhammara. Soooooo good I could eat it with a spoon just as main dish lol. Next time I'll definitely go with the full portion. Horak Isbao surprised me with a flavor, no spicy at all with a decent lemon flavor. Wasn't sure at first but the more bites a took the more I liked it. Husband said the berek was amazing, so was the meat platter. Portions are very good, we had a lot of leftovers for another full meal. This is my first time visiting Michigan, and I wanted to try authentic Middle Eastern restaurants, so I found this place close by the hotel. Their food was really good, a little bit over priced!!! The Foul Medames with yogurt is for $15.95!!!!!! (Too much for Foul)... Anyways, we were 2, so we ordered different plates to try them. I am very slow eating, and in the middle of eating the owner surprised us with the bill!!! Then he brought the containers, while we're still eating.... I felt like I'm forced to stop eating and put the left over in the containers. Felt like we're not welcomed anymore!!! It's customer service issue and I think they need to work on it. Wowwwwwww this place was a find! It's quite small,m and unassuming, in a shopping plaza that resembles all other shopping plazas. But the food and service is incredible! The signs and menu make it clear that this is Syrian cuisine, so if Dearborn middle eastern restaurants are what you're used to, the flavors here are slightly different but share many menu items. That said - the food is incredible. Baba ganoush, grape leaves, lamb shank with the most amazing rice.... and don't skip the dessert! All wonderful. Definitely a little bit of a hole in the wall sort of place if you don't know what you are looking for. Hidden inside a little strip mall, this place has some really authentic food. The staff takes great pleasure and what they do, and the chef pays so much attention to the fine details of each dish while making and serving it. Something you probably can come but the food here is very colorful. It is also very tasty! I think the lamb rice is probably their best dish. They've got a lot of vegetarian options as well. Have not eaten here and will not patronize this establishment because anywhere that charges you a three dollar fee per person just to sit down at a table to eat is ridiculous. There are many Middle Eastern restaurants in the Sterling Heights and Troy area but I am not familiar with any that are Syrian. I have had little or no exposure to Syrian cuisine. Thus, I was excited to see this Syrian restaurant open in my neighborhood. The food here is quite distinct from that of the Egyptian and Lebanese restaurants. The fattoush vegetables are marinated in a subtle dressing, making this salad less sour and biting than the Lebanese version. Hommos is not garlicky, letting the tahini and the chickpeas set the flavor. The eggplant, tomato and onion in the baba ghannouge are whole, not pureed. Everything that I have tried is good. Though I like Pattternz, I have some caveats. Less than half of the items on the menu were available on each of my visits. To be fair, the menu states that availability varies but it's frustrating when a restaurant has only three vegetarian entrees and the only one they have that day is rice and peas. Much of the food is made ahead of time and pre-packaged in plastic containers in a refrigerated section of the store. While this is very convenient for grab and go, I'd like to see more prepared to order options. Finally, communication is challenging because the staff does not speak much English. The unique and well-prepared food at Pattternz make it worth a visit. Just bring your forbearance and remember that Mick Jagger was right when he said you can't always get what you want. read more

I took my mom here for her birthday and brought my aunt and grandma. The restaurant is small, cozy and welcoming. We ordered hot tea, makdoos, eggplant mutabal, fattoush, Syrian salad, grape leaves and falafel. The gentleman who took our order and served the food graciously answered all of our questions. He made helpful suggestions and even brought out a small complimentary dish of hummus for us to try. The hot tea was high quality and delicious. Our food came with sliced tomatoes, mint, pickled cucumbers and turnips, both toasted and soft pita (khubz). The falafel came with a tasty tahini sauce and more pickles. Everything was phenomenal but there were two stand-out dishes: 1) the falafel-- perfectly hot and crispy, encrusted with sesame seeds, 2) the eggplant mutabal-- super creamy and perfectly seasoned. My family loved the fattoush as well. I took home some Syrian ice cream (mint-flavored and coated in crushed pistachios.) Overall, excellent service and yummy comfort food! You can tell they really take pride in the preparation of their meals. Impeccable hospitality. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. Chef Nahed and Mr. Ammar are wonderful! This is my first visit to Pattternz since I attended a gathering of Yelp! Elite to sample their fare. This time I took my wife and we were happy we visited! First, Mr. Ammar is a pleasure to meet! He helped us navigate the menu and suggest some items. He started us off with some light snacks --- pita and hummus and a vegetable salsa that was out of this world. Two thumbs up! Being it was only two of us, we opted for two of the Oozi (rice, peas, cooked with premium beef cubes and crispy nuts, and served with some sour cream on the side) and we chose an off-the-menu item that Mr. Ammar suggested. All I can say is it was melt-in-your-mouth boneless chicken breast cooked in a yogurt-cream sauce with mini-potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and a delightful spice-mix (not hot) that was served with rice! Out-of-this-world fantastic! The ingredients were fresh and tasty. For dessert we were treated to something different -- the Pattternz Beans. This was a departure from the traditional idea of dessert in American fare --- a mix of wheat grains, premium fava beans, whole chick peas with date syrup and topped with shredded coconut and chopped peanuts. Yes, it took a few bites to recalibrate our taste buds, but this dessert definitely took us by delightful surprise (we shared). Two cups of tea were the perfect beverage to end our meal. The things about Pattternz that will bring me back are as follows --- 1) variety of food, 2) portion sizes (healthy), 3) colors, 4) spices, 5) freshness, and finally 6) hospitality. Chef Nahed came out from her kitchen duties to say hello to us. When you walk into Pattternz you will *not* feel like you are walking into a restaurant/business, but instead you feel like you are walking into Chef Nahed's and Mr. Ammar's home. There may be a bit of a wait if they are busy or your group is large because it's a small business, but it is worth the wait! The people here work hard, running back and forth to fulfill orders, with smiles on their faces while serving authentic Syrian dishes. I had the pleasure of tasting their Yalanji (vegetarian grapeleaves) and Beef Shawarma. When I drove up, the banner above the restaurant sign stated they have the best shawarma, so of course I had to order it! After tasting their shawarma, I can confirm that it is delicious! These people put their hearts and souls into their food, and their efforts show. I love the decor of the dining room. The ambiance is casual, but very clean and nice with industrial light fixtures and wooden accents. The tiles around the counter feature many colorful "pattternz" and are very eye-catching. Been trying to get here for a while but I'm so happy we finally made it. A small restaurant ran by husband and wife team that gives you some authentic home cooking from Syria. We tried dishes like the shish barak (dough balls in warm yoghurt) oozi rice in a filo dough ball and many others. We were absolutely in agreement with what the other reviews we saw had said and would definitely recommend visiting here. The food was fantastic, my wife and I ended up splitting the Arabic chicken shawerma and the Arabic beef shawerma with some baba ganoush. I think the majority of business is carry out. We chose to dine in at the only table left. The other tables were occupied by I believe family. They were loud, laughing and having a great time. I felt right at home. Our sweet waitress took our order, the owner hooked us up with free app9and we were in heaven. We ordered Hummus, Grapeleaves and pepsi. When the food came we were shocked by this big bowl of steaming Grapeleaves, delicious hummus and a fantastic salad. Everything was fresh and just fantastic. This is our first time here, it's very clean and well decorated! The restaurant is a bit small, about 5 tables, 4 chairs each. The owner is very welcoming & sweet, he explained & offered his recommendations thru out the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious, mainly the Falafel, defiantly do not leave the restaurant without giving them a try (sandwich or plate)! They came out super crispy & warm! The portions are fair, I feel it's more quality than quantity..we ordered tabouli, hummus, baba ghanouj (that was absolutely amazing)... falafel, fried kibby, kafta sandwich, ouzi (unique to the Syrian cuisine) ..and grape leaves ... everything was delicious.. They have a vast and unique menu items rarely found elsewhere. The owner is very friendly. Love the ambiance, it's relaxing and not loud, certainly can enjoy an excellent meal while able to have a conversation here. My experience here was definitely a good one but I will say that I hoped that the chicken kabsah was a little more flavorful as the chicken tasted a little bland. The kibbe was perfect in addition to the dawood. Dawood was a dish that consisted of meatballs and potatoes in this delicious tomato based sauce. Meatballs were also cooked really well and tender. Lemon mint drink was also another favorite of mine and brought back so many memories of home. Services was delightful and the owner was incredibly sweet! Definitely a must try! I've never eaten Syrian food, but damn was this food delicious! The restaurant isn't really tailored to a sit-down experience, in my opinion. It seemed like more of a takeout place with a few tables, but the environment was clean and comfortable. The man working at the counter, who I assume was the owner, was very gracious and welcoming. He seemed to anticipate everything we needed before we even asked. The food (beef shawerma sandwich and horak isbao) we had were 10 out of 10. I'm vegetarian, and all of my options were clearly labeled, which was much appreciated. Just be aware that there is a $3 service charge per person for dining in, but the cost was well worth the personal attention we received. read more

I've been on the hunt for the best chicken shawarma and thank god I finally found it. I stumbled upon this place yesterday when I got a haircut. It's in the same plaza and I recently noticed it. I came in and ordered a shawarma with fries and here I am again today ordering the same meal. I got addicted fairly quick and brought my cousin with me this time. The chicken is soft and the wrap is crispy from being baked in the oven. Every bite is bursting with flavor up until the end. The owner is friendly and took really good care of us.
