Got a slice of cheese as a quick fix for lunch. It was OK, nothing special. Crust was too doughy for my taste, not sure if that is how it is supposed to be or if it was undercooked. I happen to love this pizza. I've been coming here for years, and I am a transplanted "New Yawkah" who lives and breathes pizza. The kind who has pizza in one place, then gets in the car drives to another place, tries out a slice THERE. I still wander around L.A., researching other good pies (calories permitting!) In New York, I just walk a block or two to the next place...but I've been known to take subways to Brooklyn just in search of a good slice when the craving hits. At Patsy's, I always start out ordering one slice, and then ALWAYS, despite good intentions to watch the ol' calories, i end up having a second. I read some other reviews and to be honest, I have also always had wonderful service here so I'm not sure who waited on some of those other reviewers. I've never eaten anything else here except pizza and the occasional salad which, again, was deliciously basic/old-fashioned and fresh. This isn't fancy designer fare...this is good ol'-fashioned fare. As for customer service, what can I say? The servers always remember to give me extra cheese and bring out the shaker of oregano and garlic when I show up. Come on, people - how many food stall farmers market-type stand clerks typically do THAT! I've had worse service at snooty 5-star hotels. I always am treated professionally, cordially and with a smile. The facility is clean, the pizza is really flavorful and delicious with a nice tang to it - not just glob o' pizza. Thin, foldable crust. I'm not a deep dish fan so deep dish fans, keep that in mind if that's your main "thing." Tradition. I either go for a slice or two of cheese, or else with shreds of basil, both speaking to my "roots." Some day, I'll have to get around to checking out their other offerings. I also love the old-time photos of Frank Sinatra and other Hollywood Glamour Era luminaries there on the walls. The historic LA Farmers Market really continues the tradition of wonderful old-fashioned comfort food. I answer door guy tells me it's 25.61 instead of what order says, which was 20.06 or something he then tells me when I give him my money that he doesn't have any more ones available... unreal. so he ends up stealing basically 7 bucks on a 20 dollar order. Woooooooow! The rudest, worst service. So sad. We've been here many times, and this was the first time I had to deal with this shrew behind the counter. There were three of us. My daughter wanted pizza, but myself and our friend were going to eat elsewhere. So my daughter placed her order for a slice of cheese pizza, no drink because we had water, and all the while shrew was looking her up and down and rolling her eyes. Cait was also going to order a salad, but I was already so aggravated with this woman's behavior I told Cait no to the salad we'd get it somewhere else. I am not sure what has happened to the various institutions at Farmers Market. Byan's, was terrible, Phil's ordinary and now Patsy's..See my reviews on the other two..The pizza here was an institution.Frank Sinatra stopped by from time to time and Patsy brought the "slice " to the west coast. The pizza remains a four star, although both Vitos and Patsy's nephew Joey" Damore's Pizza"' is far better. The pasta is almost a zero. i ordered penne.The kid grabbed a container from the fridge,put it in some water for a few minutes and served it with runny meat sauce, and a cold sausage. Frankly spaghetti o's would have been a better choice, or if i'd only moved my butt across the street to Andre's good pasta would have awaited me. The Gilmore used to boast of all first class stands..not so now. Sure there is McGee's Pampas,Monsieur Marcel and Charlies..but as a rule the stands at the market are below average. Sorry to see all the negative reviews, but i really like this pizza. Here's the key. You need to purchase an entire pizza, because that way, they make it fresh. If you just want a slice, its probably not going to be as good as its probably been sitting there for who knows how long. The taste of the pizza is "different" in a better way than what you get anywhere else, it has a unique flavor that i happen to really like. When i'm really in the mood for Pizza, i make a special trip to this place just to pick up a pie. Ordered the spaghetti w/meat sauce and the boyfriend ordered the chicken parmigiana. I asked for extra sauce on mine because I don't like my pasta dry. Upon the first bite, it was very bland song there was barely any meat. After mixing the sauce, it ended up being runny. Boyfriend said his tasted ok and chicken parmigiana was better than the pasta, but then again, he was starving. After 3 bites, I couldn't eat it anymore. I took my plate up to the counter and asked if it was marinara because there was barely any meat. I love bolognese and meat sauce and this was the worst I had. The Hispanic female employee and what seemed like the owner or manager who was a bit older female, did not apologize and was in fact pretty rude. I asked to switch it out to lasagna. Patsy has the best flavored pizza anywhere. I've searched all over but the sauce and the dough are the best. It's a thin NY style pizza. A little however, is that sometimes a slice has been sitting around for a while and they warm it up. Since the Farmers Market is now so popular I usually don't hit it during peak hours. So I understand why sometimes the quality of the reheated slice isn't as good as fresh out of the oven. And it does have grease from the whole milk cheese and pepperoni, but that's because it's authentic. There are some negative reviews here because I think many have come to associate pizza with that stuff they serve at places like Costco and CA Pizza Kitchen. While those often taste good, they ain't the real thing like Patsy's dishes up. I like it so much I usually make it a stop when I visit LA since I no longer live there. There is nothing else I'd rather eat than a slice of Patsy's pizza. And wash it down with an Arnold Palmer (ice tea and lemonade) from Bob's next door. I wanted to love this place, but just can't say that I did. I ordered a whole pizza since the slices sitting there looked really old. The staff didn't seem to be very well trained. Some jerk came up and ordered after me and starting complaining and moaning about how long it was taking - and even though his order was taken after mine, he left much sooner than I did. Not well managed...but great pizza. Just my kind of pizza exactly. But...a week ago I called this place ahead to order a slice with two toppings. The guy who answered the phone said, "Hello?" Maybe I've got the wrong number, I thought. I said, "Is this D'Amore's pizza?" "Uh, huh," he said, perhaps amazed that I could guess such a thing after dialing the number. Here's a hint, owners...it might be wise to have people identify your place of business when answering the phone. Really not rocket science...just common courtesy. A few days later, after a very long, exhausting day of work I went in with a colleague and sat down at one of the tables. The guy behind the cash register said, "You order at the counter." The place was completely empty, but taking our order was going to interrupt his thumb-twiddling, apparently. In fact, there were two guys behind the counter - the other one was on his cell phone. So I dragged my tired tush to the counter and ordered, then went back and took a seat. Again, to the people who run this place - this isn't rocket science. Everyone, including your employees, benefit from table service when there are TABLES. They get a tip and I get to relax. Read 'Restaurants for Dummies' if you don't believe me. It's worked this way for centuries. What do you tip someone when you order at the counter and they bring your pizza? Five percent? Ten percent? If I want another drink, do I have to stand back up and go to the counter? Why create this bizarre system? Why reinvent the wheel? But the pizza is so delicious...if you like thin crust and great cheese and really quality ingredients...I'm giving this place all five stars out of a great sense of generosity. Minimal mozzarella, ricotta that had zero flavor I'm not even sure it was ricotta it was clumped and gross. Dough seemed a bit raw. If they don't know how to make a calzone take it off the menu.
