Came back to Vito's for the first time in a long time (not usually in the neighborhood), and found the same cozy corner pizza parlor with a friendly staff and a good selection of pies at the ready. I was feeling the need for some heat, so I ordered a slice of the Garibaldi, a cheese slice topped with meatballs, jalapeños and fresh tomato. A very good idea. After a few minutes in the oven, the slice was delivered to me hot and glistening, and I had to wait a beat so as to not scorch my mouth. But when I finally gave in, the flavor was top notch : excellent meatballs in a tangy sauce of their own resting atop the pizza. Jalapeños added a nice punch of spice, while the chopped tomatoes offered a balancing sweetness and managed to maintain their form depute being cooked. The undercarriage was a bit thicker than I usually like, but gave necessary support to the somewhat loaded pie. The downside of that stability underneath is the density of the crust at the edge, which was a bit too puffy for me and somewhat lacking in flavor. There are other places around town with far tastier dough on display. That said, Vito's is still offering a high quality slice in a comfortable and casual space that screams New York Pizza Joint in the best ways. The gal behind the counter even asked if I wanted a refill on my drink. Good people and good eats. But be warned, parking can be tricky here, so leave some extra time to work out the details once you arrive and scope out the situation. read more

A small, no-nonsense pizza joint with some *really* tasty toppings. There's a few seats inside and a couple of tables outside if you want to eat in; we usually take food back home. There's usually parking in the attached lot, too. It's counter service, and the staff is pleasant. So far we've tried their Margherita, red meat, and white slices. They were delicious, especially the ricotta on the white slice, which was sweeter than we were expecting. The dough was also pleasantly chewy and toasty. We've also had their calzones, and dear lord, they are massive. Even with a big appetite, one is enough for two people/ two meals. The Mio Fratello calzone is typically the size of your entire forearm and legit *stuffed* full of aforementioned delicious ricotta, a bunch of other toppings, and honestly one of the best meatballs I've had in a while. Of course Greco's is nearby, but I feel they haven't been doing a great job on the quality lately, and last time I was there I spent over $20 on just two slices. Nah, time to keep looking. That's when I saw a place pop up named Vito's. 1400+ reviews and they're rated 4 stars? I gotta check them out. And to cut to the chase... this place knows how to make a pie! Vito's has been around since '96, and they're still going strong. I spent 30 minutes in the restaurant eating and reading. In that time I overheard a lot of orders being placed and saw many people come in to grab to-go. So I'm happy their business seems healthy. I have had a hard time finding a good white pie in LA, especially one that's NY style. This place does it right. The dough was the perfect texture--balancing the tightrope between too crispy and too bready, with plenty of dollops of ricotta to add a nice creamy flavor. The Hawaiian slice was flavorful, having just enough tomato base to add to it without being watery or overbearingly acidic. The ham was excellent, and who can complain about pineapple? They also have a nice outdoor dining patio with plenty of tables, and the parking lot out front can fit around 20 or more cars. I went on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of space for my car. So I'm the end, the important question is, "Would you come back?", and that's a definite YES. No fancy gimmicks needed. My recent attempts to place a catering order for our National Night Out block party at Vito's Pizza on La Cienega were, to put it mildly, incredibly frustrating. What should have been a simple process ended up making me feel like my business wasn't wanted. I made no less than three phone calls and four in-person visits just to try and get my order placed. Each time, I was given the runaround, told to speak with a different person, or advised to come back at another time. On my fourth and final visit, after specifically being told to come by in the evening, I arrived only to be informed it was a "rush period." At that point, it felt less like an oversight and more like a deliberate dismissal. You don't need to hit me over the head to know when my business isn't wanted. What truly irked me was the sudden change of tune when I insisted on speaking with the owner during that last visit. The very person behind the counter who had previously directed me to a "higher-up" was suddenly, and quite conveniently, able to assist with my order right there and then. It makes you wonder why I had to go through so much trouble and endure multiple wasted trips if he was capable of helping all along. This kind of service is simply unacceptable. I won't be recommending Vito's Pizza to any of my friends, and I will certainly be sharing my experience with Vito's with them. I half expected john travolta to appear suddenly from behind the trash can to say "Wait, did you just order a FORTY SIX dollar pizza?" I suspect it's so expensive because the mozzarella is flown in daily from Italy and the pepperoni cured on site - NOT. New York style pizza here is excellent! Open for take-out or enjoy your pizza in their small patio area. We did take-out and pizza was still great. We went with a few basics slices: cheese, mushroom, and pepperoni. The pepperoni was my least favorite due to the overflowing grease dipping onto the box; however, if you paper blot it with a bunch of napkins, it's not so bad. Don't forget napkins! I would order it again, just need to eyeball the grease factor. Other than that, I love the pizza here. The crust to sauce to cheese ratio is perfect! The chewy foldable pizza crust is addicting. Good thin stretch of the dough. My preference is to add some oregano notes and red pepper flakes. Love. I recommend Vitos Pizza to anyone craving New York style pizza.
