Pizza has been a rocky road ever since going gluten free because nothing has really been worth it. However, this pizza may single-handedly be the best gluten free pizza I've ever had. We helped a friend move into their new home this weekend in Portland and ordered Portland pie co for dinner after we were all done moving. It was the best decision ever. My boyfriend and his friends are all gluten lovers - they got a garlic crust with cheese, pepperoni, caramelized onions, pineapple, and burnt ends and they all LOVED it. Bonus points for the side of hot honey that they drizzled over the pizza. The two gluten free friends in the group (me included) got a pizza with half feta, pepperoni, and broccoli and half feta, pepperoni, caramelized onions, and green peppers. I am so sad my boyfriend and I live in Boston, because this would be a constant place we hit up for pizza. The pizza was nothing short of perfect and may just land as the best place for gluten free pizza in my heart. My boyfriend rates the gluten pizza as a 9.5/10 I would rate the gluten free pizza as a 10/10 easily. We can't wait to return to Portland for more pizza!

Whenever I'm back home to visit, I like to get some good pizza and Pat's Pizza is probably my second favorite spot. (Sorry, Pat. George's is #1.) That said, Pat's still delivers a solid pie. It's classic, familiar, and hits the spot in a way only Maine pizza can. It's definitely a bit greasy, so get a few extra napkins and maybe don't wear anything you care too much about. But let's be honest, that grease is half the appeal. They offer hard cider, which is a nice touch if you want something cold and crisp to wash things down. And if you sit upstairs by the window, you'll get a surprisingly nice view of the Androscoggin River. Sure, the river's still a little polluted and the Lewiston side you're seeing is industrial-looking, but there's a weird charm to it. Kind of like the pizza. Overall, Pat's is a dependable, no-frills place that does what it does well. It's not trying to impress anyone from the big city, and that's exactly why it works.

The only thing that confused my husband and I was the salad that comes with the entree. We each ordered the chicken parmigiana and it comes with house salad. She asked if there was anything on my salad I did not want, I responded with no onion. She then looked at my husband and asked the same question, he responded with he was fine with all items. She asked if he wanted onions on the side. He said no, on his salad was fine She brought one Salad, two bowls. No onions. We did not get individual salads. We have been during lunch in the past and did not order anything that came with a salad so honestly we were a bit confused. Now portion sizes he and I could have ordered one chicken parmigiana and split it. Their sauce is fantastic! Food delicious! The day we went for lunch, I ordered a sausage and onion calzone and their roasted Brussel sprouts. Also both yummy!!!

WHOP meets the mark-you're able to order beer on tap while you wait. We ordered a large half buffalo chicken, half cheese. The crust is a little thin for my liking here-however-the "homemade" feel I personally get from small, local pizza places was there. Delicious, with just the right measurements of all the toppings we ordered. Thankfully I had looked on Yelp recently and saw the mentions of cash only here so we could grab some before going. We called ahead for a large pepperoni and sausage pizza and the worker said it'd be around 20 minutes. Which wasn't bad considering it was dinner time on Saturday. We waited a bit once we arrived but total time from call was around 25 minutes so no complaints. Staff seemed hard to work keeping up with orders and almost all the people who walked in knew one or more people on the staff. So it gave me a sense they have a large constant following and bring people back. Small space inside with space for eating in if you want it fresh out the oven. Also your first step into the door you are greeted with the wonderful smells of pizzas being made. Once we got home we enjoyed our pizza, my wife said it was nostalgic and reminds her of the takeout pizzas she had growing up. I also enjoyed it and would gladly order more pizzas from here again. Overall if possible I would give this place a 4.25 or 4.5 star rating cause it was not quite a 5 but also a little better than 4. They have run a successful business the way they do for so long, so they clearly know what they are doing. I think it would be beneficial to have a website or even just some social media for a menu and presence in general. Also I think cash only is a bit outdated at this point and accepting cards would attract more customers. With countless places you can get pizza I do believe this is a spot worthy of giving a try!
