Patriots Subs First and last time. $11.49 for a large Italian sub that I requested heated and no banana peppers. Also ordered a side of fries for $2.99. I was the only customer, except for a pregnant female that was just sitting there telling stories about a friend who was getting cheated on. Sub: Absolutely pitiful amount of meat. It's mostly bread...and lots of banana peppers, which I requested NO banana peppers. Definitely not worth the price. Small business or not, I'll stick with Jersey Mike's, where they give you plenty of meat for less cost. And how hard can it be to not add banana peppers. Obviously the two employees were too wrapped up in the gossip to pay attention to what they were supposed to be making. Fries:: Tiny small basket of limp crinkle cut fries. Nope. Definitely a one and done. If you like them, good for you. But I'll be spending my money elsewhere. read more

The Italian sub is to die for (best I've ever had since NJ) and their steak n cheese is everything too (so much meat). Picked up our order to go, sandwiches were nothing great. Too expensive for quantity of meat and toppings. We got fries and tenders and they were dry and stale. Later saw online that they're air fried which is fine, but that wasn't advertised. I could've just done that at home. I saw people get macaroni salad and it was served in to go condiment cups. Had a chance to visit Patriot Subs today with my family. I had been hearing how great it was for the last couple years and I'm happy to report the same. Patriot Subs is the only place in Fredericksburg offering New York-style subs - meaning, actual meat at actual volume. I had the Italian, and it was the best one I've had since visiting NY. I'll be going back to Patriot Subs in the next two weeks to pick up one of their legendary turkey and cranberry holiday sandwiches too. A nice perk are the fountain drinks allowing normal soda options to be mixed with low sugar flavors. I appreciate the old school touch. Patriot Subs is one of the few new restaurants that made it through the pandemic. I am worried about it because traffic was very slow. In talking to some local college kids as we walked around the area, I learned that many infer a negative connotation with the word "Patriot" and choose to spend their money elsewhere. If the liberal education system has convinced these young and impressionable kids that a business devoted to celebrating the U.S. military is not worth their time, or that a "Patriot" shouldn't be appreciated with consideration to American history, and regardless of their fabulous fare, and notwithstanding the military has no political position and simply exists to enable the very lives we all choose to live, then the American experiment is truly on a course of failure. Tasted fine, but I was really surprised at how small and under-filled they were for the price. This was the cheesesteak and it was $8. The grown man - about her father's age she said who made her sandwich kept saying things to her like "your eyes are pretty", "what's a pretty girl like you doing here all alone"? I have been LIVID and frankly unsure what to do about it and this is how I've decided to deal with it. To let the public know. I'd like to say to the UMW students who may frequent this close-to-campus business that you absolutely have the right to go into a business, order food and not discuss your appearance, status, or anything else not related to lunch meat with the grown a$$ed man making your damn sandwich even if you are an adult. Right over the pedestrian bridge from UMW and around the corner. I'd heard mixed news but I was starving and the subs sounded good on the menu. Glad I stopped! The man running the shop was engaging and put together a really good sandwich (cheesesteak). The cracked peppercorn mayo was a bit spicy (for me) but good all the same. He recommended the self serve soda fountain and told me a number of combos that make up a whole different soda - vanilla and root beer make a tasty root beer float! The machine has tall handles like an old fashioned Coke shop or the beer taps from a bar. It's a simple shop with a simple respectful military nod; emblems of the various services are obvious but in no way overwhelming. They also offer a discount for military members and civilian emergency services personnel -- nice! If your visiting a kid on campus or just passing by, it's a solid place to grab a bite! read more

Husband and I stopped by Patriot Subs before all of this COVID stuff locked us down. The food was okay and the service was good so I wanted to go back again. The front door has a sign about social distancing and honoring the Gov's orders and so on. I went into the store and was greeted by two men: one who put on a face mask and one who did not. The maskless man rang up my order and pretended to try to chat with me. I backed away from him and did not engage. The guy with the mask and gloves made my sandwich. I am not going to comment about the food. I am going to say that if you don't care any more than that about your customers that you cannot put on a mask for 10 minutes, I'm going to return that level of care back to you. Having heard great things about Patriot Subs I made my way there for dinner tonight and ended up with a brand new favorite! Just walking in the door I realized that this wasn't just some everyday corporate die stamped shop, rather it was new, fresh, and certainly located in a prime spot for MWU. The owner's focus on honoring each service was clearly evident through out the store. For example, tabletops outfitted with each branch's seal, and a special display honoring those who have earned our highest honor were an especially nice touch. Opting to create my own sub rather than choosing from a well represented "as built" type sub menu, I laid it on heavy ordering with double meat with the kitchen sink (and avocado) thrown in. I noted that the store uses high quality Boars Head delicatessen meats and cheeses and they offer a great variety of fresh vegetables and Boars Head sauces. I opted for the Everoast chicken, swiss cheese, and topped it all with Fiery Chipotle Gourmaise. It was just freaking perfect. Again, this isn't one of your run of the mill chain store type subs, it was well built sandwich and absolutely worth my time to drive there and check it out. I'm always looking for restaurants that really get it. They focus on the ingredients, on freshness and the ability to reinvent something that most of us find pretty pedestrian, a sandwich. The bottom line is that Patriot Subs knocked this one out of the park and I'm very happy to be a new customer! read more

We ordered three cheesesteaks and fries. How hard could it be? It was not like any cheesesteak any of us have ever had. Not even sure it was beef. Looked and tasted like thin sliced deli meat of some sort. Cheese was barely melted. Pepper gormayonnaise? Pass. Worst cheesesteak ever. Not even close. The fries...were not fried. Toaster oven? We waited in line for 10+ minutes while two other people's orders were placed. We then waited forever at the front of the counter. The gentleman making the food was super nice and said he would be right with us. The other people eating their food were being insanely obnoxious, but whatever. Then, the gentleman making the subs asked the person who was waiting a question. No big deal, right? Well, who I'm assuming was the owner, yelled at the gentleman and said, "THE ONLY THING HE'S DOING IS MESSING UP MY FOOD." Absolutely uncalled for. Great new spot that just opened on near campus and one I'll likely frequent when I need a quick healthy bite. They've got a robust menu of your usual and some unexpected hot and cold subs, wraps, and some salads that offer enough options to keep each visit as fresh as their food. Their subs have a good ratio of meats to veggies. Unlike certain Jersey based sub shops, Patriot Subs doesn't feel the need to hide their flavor under mounds of shredded lettuce that falls out everywhere when you take a bite. Instead they give you whole crispy fresh romaine leaves and I think spinach too that give just the right amount of leafy greens. Tip: You've got to try the pepper gourmasie instead of mayo if you want a little zest. It's killer! Sides are solid here. Aside from standard chips that you see at every sandwich shop, they have coleslaw, potato salad, and others. I've got to say their slaw is not lacking in flavor, unlike places that just slap mayo and cabbage together and call it a day. The drawbacks: There aren't a lot of bread options and the white they did give was mediocre with a tough crust. I'd like to see something like an herb and cheese, or even just herb. They also could stand to have some more salad dressings for their salads, maybe a balsamic, ginger, or vinaigrette. Maybe in a condiment bar with the rest of their deli sauces. In all, I will definitely be back to here again and again, even on days I'm not on campus. Update 10/20/2019: They've since added a good variety of bread and dressing options. I ordered delivery,a Rueben with extra Swiss cheese ,macaroni salad, and Cole slaw..The slaw and salad were delicious..The sandwich was a different story..I had paid for extra Swiss, and couldnt find anything resembling cheese on the sandwich..very disappointed.. Awesome! We tried Patriot Subs for the first time last night. I was skeptical of why we need another Sub restaurant. I was wrong. These are legit sandwiches. We got Reubens and split an Italian. I worked in a deli in New York and I can tell you this is a real Reuben right down to the marbled rye. The Italian sub beats any other in the area as well. Patriot uses Boar's Head meats which are the Best! The strawberry shake we got was amazing as well. We will definitely be getting our subs and sandwiches from Patriot Subs from now on. read more

He took the time to tell us all about the craft and heart behind his restaurant who is really in honor of his brother. His brother who has MS, is a veteran, and wanted to create a business that honored and upheld the principles and values of this country - freedom, vision, and love. I felt a whole lot of that while dining here! First of all, the food is made of the freshest ingredients. The owner made some fresh flat bread pizza that had a whole lot of cheese, but it didn't leave me feeling bloated because of the ingredients that were used. I saw him make the pizza from scratch. I also had the tuna sub which was tasty and filling. Then, the complimentary sauces that are available here are top quality. They have TRUFF sauces, which are delicious and pretty pricey...each bottle is like $20. The drink options here are also top notch and quality. You can't really find this selection anywhere, and the owner was telling us how persistent he was to get this soda brand into his store. The sub was supper good! The boar's head meat was so fresh and you could tell the high quality of every bite you were getting. It was quick also, I got it in less than four minutes. Great sandwiches! Great sodas! Most importantly, honest and personable owner and staff! We were passing through after my dad's funeral at Arlington National Cemetery last week. My mother and I both attended MWC and of course, wanted to take a quick tour through campus. We stopped here for lunch before heading back on the road. It was not until getting all the way home that I realized I had left my purse in the shop. I immediately called and the owner immediately shipped my purse back to me. Thank you!!!
