Garlic Nann & Samosas.
Ci H.

Indian vegan street food & vegan deserts anyone? The hidden gem to this Indian grocery store are the freshly made Indian street food like samosa, puff pastry with curry, chapati & nann. Just head straight to the back of the store. Note that the spice level is higher as it's authentic. You can also order containers of curry. Also, note that everything is vegan, including their deserts. Try their vegan deserts if your taste buds are more traditional. You will not notice any difference in their chocolate cake & cheesecake. They probably substitute vegan coconut oil for butter. Tip: A Korean grocery store & an international grocery store are within a mile radius, so you could just add Patel Bros to your trek.

We were in the area and were curious about what Patel Brothers was. We kept seeing signs in the parking lot saying Patel Brothers is not responsible for damage to your car from carts. I didn't know this grocery store existed. It has a deli in the back where you can get Indian treats. The store is kept clean and well stocked. It's brightly lit and I spent some time just walking up and down the long aisles to see what was available. They have so many different Indian spices and things I'm looking for when I make Indian food so this is nice to know I can find it here. Ended up picking up some new snacks to try because everything looked delicious. The pricing wasn't too bad especially for produce in comparison to where I usually shop.

I was shopping for items to make Saag paneer and Patel Brothers was the perfect place to find what I need. It's a big store carrying a vast amount of Indian grocery items and housewares. I go on occasion to snag their Swad brand packaged spices. Patel Brothers also sells grab and go food found in the back of the store. I've picked up a few samosas and found them to be okay at a decent price. Weekends are busy so if you want to shop with ease, go during their off times.

Patel Brothers grocery store has always been my favorite place to go for getting Indian food, snacks and general groceries (spices, condiments, etc.). Before they opened the Niles location, I used to go to their Schaumburg one. That place felt small and crowded compared to this one even though this location isn't quite big per say and also tends to be crowded. Also, this location is relatively closer to me than the Schaumburg one. Thus, I like going here more. I have usually found what I have been looking for and then some. I go to P B to get ready made food, snacks and frozen dishes. I like browsing through their isles to find something that I haven't seen or had before. Come Indian festivals and holidays, I tend to go get sweets from P B as they have a good variety at reasonable prices compared to the local mom & pop shops. I recommend going here to any one who likes to have Indian food and groceries. They carry a good variety of items and prices are usually not bad. Check them out if you haven't before.

When this place opened years ago, I had been anticipating it after having visited a location out in the western burbs. When we finally made it in for a visit and it was not a disappointment. The place is spacious and there are aisles and aisles of foods to chose from. They even have a hot foods section. I went in recently again and the pricing for the hot foods section significantly went up for the homemade chapati.

I thought I wrote this review.I went to the deli and I ordered some nan bread but they said come back in five minutes so I shopped around they have really great things I wish I knew what 90% of them were because I do love Indian food and I'm exploring that venue and how to cook it,when I went back to pick up my nan it wasn't ready yet but there was a young lady I thought I already wrote the review and I put her name in it unfortunately I don't have her name but she was wonderful, she just stood there and explained everything that there was in the case everything is made fresh daily I definitely will come back and try the other fresh baked goods .

After a long while, this big name Indian grocer has finally opened near us and it has apparently been since Thursday, October 3, and unbeknownst to us til today.  So it's been just about a week, and we must have missed whatever ads there were.   We simply noticed cars in the lot and lights on as we coincidentally passed by tonight and dropped in.  They are located in a refurbished Toys R Us store and the new and attractive store layout and the triangular shaped parking lot feels plentiful and adequate (having shopped at Toys R Us in past, we were concerned for them!).  But then again we were there on a Wednesday night at 30 minutes before closing, so customers will find out eventually how their prime time parking situation is.  It's nice to have this large ethnic grocer nearby and as you might expect, all of the products are very Indian centric (and nicely so) as is the customer base.  There are also more employees per customer floating around than I think I have seen at any other grocer it seems, but then again maybe it's just that their bright green store outfits simply catch the eye more impressionably. The same was true of the flagship Patel Brothers store on Devon Ave that we have on occasion also stepped into in the past.  There is a lot of inventory on display, and mostly it seems dry and frozen products, and fresh produce, and not much in the way of meats, just saying.  The aisles are all pretty much the entire length of the store as there is no midway crossover, so pick your aisles carefully if you're lazy.  We'll revisit for a better look at some point soon, but tonight we just picked up some chappati Indian flatbread and a bag of Swag whole raw cashews ($14.99 for 28 oz).  I used to bring these back regularly from numerous past business trips to India and loved these, but they're nearly not as cheap here!  Anyway, welcome to the neighborhood Patel Brothers.

Desserts galore!

I was pretty excited for Patel Brothers to open and it hasn't disappointed yet. We have stopped by to investigate new (to us!) foods, desserts, and snacks - especially those last two! This grocery store is on-par with Assi or H-Mart if you're familiar with those, except catering to Indian and Middle-Eastern tastes. I can highly recommend getting the freshly baked samosas! Definitely coming back.

The store was immaculate and well-stocked. They offered several brands of the item I was looking for. I couldn't leave the store without checking out their bakery department and treated myself a mile-high chocolate cake. It was the highlight of the visit. The cake was heavenly. The store shares an enormous parking lot with other businesses. I will definitely spend more time in the store on my next visit to see what else I can find.

They also have massage chairs to use, a hair salon (Park Jun) and different tchotchkes to choose from as well as teas, ornaments, and a plethora of K-pop items to choose from. Really loved the vibe, the authenticity and the overall affordability. We scored a decent meal for 30.00 each: brisket pho & spring rolls as well as Dan Dan noodles and dumplings in chili oil. The spring rolls and Dan Dan noodles were my favorite ! 10/10 experience overall!

Mark Kurlansky It is my mission while I am residing in the northwest Chicago suburbs to submerse myself in the cultural treasure trove around me and experience as much as I can, as fast as I can. Finding the best and most authentic international groceries (and conversing with the owners and patrons inside) is one of the best means to do this, I have found. On my way to Assi (a Korean grocery), I saw the Zander Import Groceries sign with the curious winged lion. "Another time," I thought. But, it ate at me while I was shopping at Assi. So, I read a few Yelp reviews in the parking lot and decided to endure the six o'clock traffic on Milwaukee Ave and drive back there. The reviews said bread and pickles, try the bread and pickles. That was the mission. I believe it not chance that Zander was grinding fresh Turkish Coffee beans for another customer as I walked in. The smell was inviting and immediately perked me up. Now I know I'll come back when I have coffee drinking guests to entertain. There are plenty of good Indian, Pakistani, and Persian stores within a few miles of Zander Import Groceries, but Zander earns his relevance due to certain specific Assyrian goods he offers. The breads are acquired from bakeries in Skokie and Chicago, and the quality is good. The lavash was particularly nice, but the heavily floured crust left me wanting some of that coffee to wash it down. The Assyrian bread had a great bite and reminded me of a doughnut without sugar. (Does that make sense?) A kind gentleman patron directed me to a spicy homemade pickle of cabbage, carrot, and spices. I must say, it was delicious and I hope my husband loves it as much as I do. Zander also had some imported pickles and olives which looked fascinating. There were other staples, too, as you can see from my photos. This shop is definitely needed and earns its place with some unique offerings. I enjoyed my pickles and bread, and will have what is left of them to accompany an eggplant dish I am making tomorrow night. Brittney Tun Food Writer and Culinary Enthusiast

The location is extremely convenient. The minute you walk out of the Kedzie Brown Line stop you make a right and you're there. There's parking, which is good to know. It took over 50 minutes to get here on the train. It might be a lot faster if I drive, so I'm glad there's parking at least. The grocery store is huge and has a variety of Middle Eastern and Turkish goods. I bought several cheeses, from Kashkaval to Halloumi and most importantly my Labne! The meat looked extremely fresh, but I wasn't going to risk dragging it on the train with me all the way back to downtown, but I'll definitely keep that in mind if I drive back there. The isles are organized and neat. There's also a mini bakery in the store and it has delicious sweets and lots and lots of fresh bread. They also have the famous Middle Eastern Mankushe (thyme and cheese flavors)! I wanted to buy so many more things but there's only so much I can carry with me. The employees were super helpful and helped find a few things I needed. The only reason why I am giving 4 stars is because there were some expired items in the fridge, but nothing that drastic! Till next time!
