I have always loved coming directly here to the factory store to purchase cases from the actual producer and manufacturer. Over the years, a technically proved to be cheaper than buying the three packs from the grocery stores or even buying cases elsewhere. This location also has lots of different options and choices for apples beyond just caramel or peanuts. It is disappointing though to read a lot of the recent reviews about apples being purchased that have gone bad. On my last visit here a few years back I will say that there was no longer a savings in purchasing directly from them, and or purchasing a case, as opposed to purchasing the packs of three from the grocery stores. I still gave them the five stars because I absolutely respect and love the company and what they do. Their product is still incredible and unique. I came here after Labor Day weekend for my annual kick off for the fall. As usual, I selected two gourmet apples (75 cents for the small triple chocolate and $1.25 for the giant caramel apple), which had a "best by" date within the upcoming week and thus were on super sale. There is no place on earth like the Affy Tapple Factory. The product is so incredible and it brings up so many childhood memories for me. Taffy apples at Sox games with my dad. Moving out of state and having my husband come to the factory so he could bring home a case or two. 10/28 update: Bought two three packs of apples. All were mealy. Some had rotten brown spots in the middle. They said good through 11/4. All the sticks slid right out so I had to cut them up on a paper plate to control the mess. The apples were also tasteless. These are now a waste of money. Do better. 10/17 My family and i usually love Affy tapples but this year most apples have been mealy and old, and others have been tasteless. I discovered Affy Tapple unexpectedly as they were advertising their 75th anniversary celebration event. We got there 10:10am when they open at 10am and there were line of people waiting. They were offering Freshly dipped caramel apples with topping of choice with Donation to the Greater Chicago Food bank which was amazing. They were at max capacity where they had to limit the number of people inside the store. Overall, their caramel apple is delicious and can get them fresh in the factory store. read more

Affy Tapple's customer service is top notch. After purchasing a couple bad apples in our bunch, someone reached out to me to replace the bad ones. It shows they really care about their customers and take complaints seriously. I applaud a company that is willing fix their mistakes. This is a review for their online order/delivery. I found company through google when I was looking for a dozen caramel apples for the holiday season. I have purchased caramel apples previously through other companies and paid more and was less satisfied with the quality. I enjoyed how I was able to make a purchase and choose when I wanted the apples to be delivered. Apples arrived at time chosen, wrapped well and all in good condition. Each apple was wrapped individually and make a great small gift option during the holiday season. I got a dozen caramel apples covered in white and milk chocolate chips. The apples were super fresh, tart and just perfect for slicing and sharing. I brought several to holiday parties and everyone has loved them. I ordered one of the larger specialty apples covered in honey roasted peanuts which could've easily been shared with 3-4 people, added a nice bit of salty/sweet combo. Overall seamless order/delivery and great quality apples. Order was a little pricy but a nice annual treat. Will order next year for holiday season and look forward to it. Quiet little store found on a back-path off Grosse Pointe road. It's considered an outlet store so regular variety apples are .80 cents. The deluxe run around $2 - $2.50 or more. Check the photos, there are levels of deluxe apples. I prefer mine chilled. Had a deluxe, covered in milk chocolate and almonds, it was supreme. Other than apples they offer their caramels 12 to a box for $1. Caramel chocolates, pretzels dipped in chocolate, and everything within view is less than $4. I got a bag of goodies for under $9. And I think it could last me a few weeks. They also have boxes of Affy Tapple for sale. Not a good idea if you're on a diet; duh. but fun. Looks like I'll have to restart the diet next week. Affy Tapple Caramel Apple with Sprinkles: Now that autumn is upon us I can start to enjoy some seasonal treats (along with the fall colors all the good food is the only consolation to the death of summer). I could not have cared less for caramel apples as a kid, but I sure do love them now. Affy Tapple offers a few different varieties, but my current favorite is the sprinkle version. Visually the treat looks gorgeous. It's an apple coated with delicious caramel and a thick veil of sprinkles. The sprinkles come in a gorgeous rainbow of colors and it looks fantastic. Taking a bite out of this thing gives me a major sugar rush and I'm not complaining. The caramel coating is thick, chewy, and sweet, while the sprinkles add a little crunch and a second jolt of sugar. I prefer these apples over other brands because they are reasonably sized and priced. These aren't your steroid infused apples that are 4x the size of standard apples, so eating one won't kill your diet or give you diabetes. NEVER AGAIN WILL I DO A FUNDRAISER WITH THEM . Just did a fundraiser with upon receiving orders one of the works mentioned to another employee we were supposed to have 3 pallets of apples. The employee looked at him with wide eyes said nothing and told him get whats back there. I ended up with a pallet and a half. Now that I have them I'm missing cases of apples and singles as well. I have had the same problem with inferior apples as some other reviewers. Apples were brownish to nearly rotten in the center. Sticks pulled out when I tried to lift an apple. This was mainly a problem with the 3-packs, not the singles. Ended up discarding either the entire apple or a good portion of it. Be sure to check the "best by" date and eat soon after purchasing. I just received my order and extremely disappointed with the packaging and quality of the apples. When I opened the box all the apples were wrapped in plastic with bubble wrap and all the carmel was melted and sticking to the plastic wrap. This is not what I expected and saddened that I bought these for a party and they look awful to hand out. I also noticed the apples are not made with granny smith apples and when we went to cut into the apple we noticed brown spots in the apple. They have three parking spaces at their retail store and when I was there, a giant SUV was literally parked in two of them (not that this is Affy Tapple's fault but if they had more, I wouldn't have had to park halfway in the street). Next guy came in and said, "Where can I park where there's no towing sign?" No one that worked there answered him - completely ignored him. Real nice. I went into their store at their actual location for treats for my husband's birthday a week ago. I bought 16 single large apples: 4 caramel, 4 chocolate and almond, and 4 peanut. I also bought a few pieces of candy for myself from behind the counter. I also bought one 3-pack of smaller apples for my manager at work. At least 3 of the sticks fell out of the large apples (until I figured out ALL of them were going to fall out so I stopped picking them up by the stick)(by the way, isn't that how you're supposed to friggin' eat a taffy apple?). ALL of the plain caramel apples had the paper stuck in the taffy to the bottom, I spent a ridiculous amount of time before my party trying to get paper out of the taffy so our guests wouldn't eat it. Two of the the larger apples were rotten all the way through when I cut them open (before the party). The next day, my manager told me later that ALL THREE of the apples in the pack I bought her were rotten all the way through. Fabulous. Additionally, the people that work there have THE WORST attitudes. They are unfriendly, don't acknowledge people when they walk in and generally don't seem like they want to be there. Affy Tapple used to be the go to for an taffy apples but their quality has really gone down over the years. The apples are very hit or miss. One in a while you get a good one but lately you are lucky if your apple is edible at all. I bought two today from Mariano's and both were within their date range. On 10/14 I made a delivery order with the company for an event on 10/23 and, very unfortunately, it arrived in poor condition due to packaging. The apples were merely laid in a box on top of one sheet of bubble wrap, side by side, despite the fact that some of the apples are packaged in soft, not hard plastic and some are not, although the hard packaged apples were not spared damage, either. The apples with Halloween sprinkles were crushed/smeared against the packaging and/or had slid off the apples in places. The caramel apples, which came in harder packaging, suffered from caramel rubbing off all along the packaging due to the packaging being crushed against them in transit. The peanut caramel apples were the least affected and though a little crushed, due to the outer peanut layer, did not have quite the same presentation issues though they were not without some damage. I contacted the company on 10/21, and let them know that the apples were not suitable to be used for their intended purpose without significant work being undertaken to unpackage, clean-up and then repackage the damaged apples--essentially, I would have to remake the apples. I also stated that I believed had better packaging been utilized, this would not be an issue. I asked for help resolving the issue and noted that I ordered the apples for an event on 10/23. I also included numerous pictures (some I have included here) documenting what I received. On 10/25, I received a reply email from the company. They let me know that they could process a credit and let the shipping department know about the packaging issue. I let them know that (1) the need for the apples had passed, (2) I didn't trust that the same issue would not occur again, and that I would just prefer a refund. The next day, I received an email blaming UPS, not their shoddy packing for the issues and that a credit was requested. I replied back asking if it was a refund that was requested and have not heard anything back since. read more

I am enthralled with this spot. I have been coming here for a long long time!! Growing up in Rogers Park they had a factory store on Clark Street. Used to go there and buy frozen chocolate covered bananas or affy tapples withbroken sticks for i believe 5cents!!! In skokie you can get cases of 24 Affy Tapples for around $20 dollars! (No frozen bananas though )sometimes a lot less. Depends on expiration dates and amount of extras made i guess. I do not like caramel popcorn (except Cracker Jacks!). A Fall season must!!! Always a thrill to walk into the factory store of Affy Tapple. It reminds me of purchasing my Affy Tapple Apple from school a favorite of mine. I know I can pick them up at the local store but it is so fun just to go to the factory!! Apples with nuts, apples with sprinkles, apples with mini m&m's. It's just a great place, small but great!! The apples themselves are really good. We buy them in bulk every year to sell to raise money for student government at the school I work at. However, this year's batch of apples went squishy before the 14 day period was up (they are supposed to last at least that long)--about 5 days before. I was told to call them and ask that the remaining apples that were so-so be replaces (this was about 4 cases--or 96 apples). I was put on hold for about 10 minutes, and when the customer service person came back, I was told that since "the expiration date was only a few days away, and we were dealing with perishable items, they could replace half the bad apples, but not all." I feel that this is ridiculous, since the 96 apples not only cost us money, but went bad almost 50% faster than they were supposed to. So, if you want to get some really good-tasting taffy apples, I suggest this place. But if you're buying in bulk, be careful--you have no idea how old their produce is, so you have no idea how long the bulk items will last; if they don't last long, you will have wasted a bit of money. read more
