On my last visit here a few years back I will say that there was no longer a savings in purchasing directly from them, and or purchasing a case, as opposed to purchasing the packs of three from the grocery stores. I still gave them the five stars because I absolutely respect and love the company and what they do. Their product is still incredible and unique. When I lived out of state, it was so easy to order an entire case from here and ship it all the way to Honolulu and it did arrive in perfect intact condition.

Why get traditional candy when you can expand your horizons and try something new?! The store front is very organized and makes it fairly easy to find your favorites. The distracting part was looking at all of the options and seeing which ones you didn't know existed! I appreciated that the candy is pre-portioned in little bags so you can sanitarily grab one. I grabbed a bag of sour pickle flavored strips to give as a gift and a bag of red licorice scotty dogs for myself. (They were sold out of my favorite red shoestrings...sad day.) The employee, like, tells you about yourself based on what you are purchasing like a horoscope so it came up that the pickle strips were absolutely NOT for me, haha, and she took the time to add a lovely bow and put a branded sticker on it to make it more presentable--and at no charge, too! I visited a shop in my neighborhood that sells local and specialty foods, and they were selling a…read morevariety of Veruca chocolates. They didn't have the salted caramels I wanted, so I picked up a cocoa bomb by Veruca Chocolates instead. I got a few of these last year and they were fun. And this one is blinged out with brightly colored, glittery chocolate, so definitely I had to try it. When I prepared the cocoa bomb, I decided to make it as decadent as possible and went with cream as the liquid. It was too large to put in a mug and pour the hot liquid on top, so instead I put the cocoa bomb in the pot. It had a lot of cocoa inside as well as some marshmallows, and the of course the chocolate of them sphere itself made it all the more rich. The resulting cup of cocoa was deliciously chocolatey and thick. It made two five ounce cups, and given how rich it was that was plenty. They used very nice ingredients, as well. The marshmallows that were inside were dense and didn't melt as quickly as store-bought marshmallows, were not as chalky, and were overall more pleasing. After having the chocolates I bought at the neighborhood shop, I headed down to the Veruca Chocolates storefront in Lincoln Park to buy try a broader range. They have some really fantastic house-made chocolates, as well as caramels and some seasonal goodies. They have a Chicago series of chocolates that are really good (the ones I've had, anyway; I don't like beer so the Goos-Island-inspired one isn't something that will be on my test-taste list). Their sea salt caramels are so good. That's my favorite item from here. I got several chocolate treats, and ended up buying some drinking chocolate to send to friends and family for the holidays as well. Veruca Chocolates has really nice, high quality products and I can't wait until they are able to reinstate classes (and I'm comfortable attending in-person events), because it would be really fun to learn how to work with chocolate and establish some level of expertise in that area! So we just walked up to the counter to look at the flavors. We sampled a few before we decided to get a cone of the rootbeer float which was so unique because it was like a root beer sorbet and vanilla gelato in one mix. If you've had a root beer float and loved it - this is the move! I'm still thinking about it and it's been a week! The other flavor we ended up with was the Kitty Kitty Bang Bang, which was super subtle with like a raspberry and chocolate flavor. It reminded me of those brookstone raspberry chocolates but in ice cream form. Delish! Highly recommend this was well! I will say the prices were a bit higher than we expected (not that it wasn't listed) but just higher than most ice cream shops but we didn't mind supporting local. I will also say it felt a bit disorganized with the staff there were 2 staff members who were sitting on a stool on their phone and barely said anything to people who were asking questions and engaging. But nonetheless, overall a great experience and can't wait to come back and try other flavors.
