The VIP guided tour is a MUST!!! When we arrived the staff at the desk were on their phones, and Randal our tour guide was waiting at the Bee table. The desk staff weren't the most helpful or welcoming, but Randall made up for their lack. Once Randal heard my name, he immediately got up and walked over to introduce himself. His enthusiasm and warm welcome set the tone for an amazing experience. Randal was AMAZING! He made the Patch of Heaven Nature Sanctuary so much fun to navigate! He was so knowledgeable about all of the plants; we chatted, laughed and enjoyed the beautiful nature of PHS! We enjoyed the waterfalls, butterflies lab, intentional learning and meditation that appealed to all senses: sight, sound, feel, taste and smell. Book your VIP Tour, you'll be amazed at nature's beauty and Randal's knowledge, hospitality and kindness.

Beautiful place to sit around for several hours to fully take it all in. I would say this is a great place for a first date, chatting with friends, or spending time to reflect by yourself. The sanctuary is large and has several areas to visit. When you first walk in, the path will take you to the sections where you see, smell, touch, and taste. The seeing section you can sit under a tree with different artworks to view. Smelling section has plants that have a strong perfume scent that aren't even flowers, it was a wonderful surprise. Touch section you can use a totem to send a wish or prayer and run your hands under a fountain. Taste section has veggies and herbs you can pick & eat. Then, at the end there is a meditation garden. The butterfly house only had 2-3 butterflies I saw, but the waterfall was beautiful. Right outside of the butterfly house, take a seat in front of the pond to see all the fish in the pond. There are so many different sections and conversation spots, you really just need to walk around & take it all in! Get the Dragonfruit Lemonade in the middle of the Sanctuary!

It starts to fade when you arrive down the hidden drive into the parking lot....the stress. Daily schedules, commitments, deadlines... the disappear.. and are supposed to. That's one of the things about this Sanctuary --a place of refuge and protection. For Humans, Flora, and Fona. Other gardens appear landscaped, maintained, manufactured, museum like in the tagging and display of rare, special trees, flowers and native plants. This space mimics the natural Pinewood & Rockland Hammocks that is South Florida's native, natural undisturbed areas. Small trails with benches to reflect, read a book, find your peace. Waterfalls, a Lagoon full of Koi and Cichlids, Zen Garden, Butterfly Garden, Horse Bar, Bat Houses, Chocolate Bar Restaurant..... you really never knew this place was here. a hidden gem, really. We had a tour arranged for our group with Randall Quirk, the most energetic, engaging, interesting accompaniment we could have asked for. He knew all the stories, all the plant life, and all the techniques for reducing stress, and relaxing at the Sanctuary. He took us to a very unique part of the Sanctuary called the Mindful Pocket Park - a series of mini parks one for each of your senses as the anchor of focus, relaxing you you will arrive in the present moment. We had an older woman with us, who was slow with a walker. Randall made sure she kept with the group, was constantly checking on her, and even escorted her to the bathroom during our lunch break. He really made us all feel so welcome. This really is a Patch of Heaven, can't wait to go back. Go see Randall, He's a HOOT !

My best friend surprised me by bringing me here to celebrate my 26th birthday and I fell in love with this place. It was the most relaxing and beautiful experience. We walked the entirety of the premise but I cannot wait to come back to explore this place in depth. We got rained on but it was fine because we decided to shelter by the big Framboyan tree (Royal Poinciana). 10/10 experience! The staff is great and the place is beautiful.

I ventured out to Homestead to visit Patch of Heaven. I heard great things about their initiative and outdoor/nature area. I purchased tickets online before arriving and they were about $23 a person. When you arrive, they show you a map of the area but it isn't the most clear once you're actually walking around. The nature and different areas are very nice. It's an enjoyable walk around the property. The koi pond area is definitely a highlight, as are the trees surrounding the property. There's a horse barn you can visit, and see and pet the different horses on the property. I do think it was a bit hard to get around and it's a little bit overpriced but it's still a nice way to enjoy an afternoon outside and contribute to conservation efforts.

SO worth the price for a relaxing date. Lovely gardens and it's just such a calm and inviting place.

I felt the experience was lacking for the price, but it may have been better with a guide for a more in depth understanding.

In the nature center I learned that the preserve got its name from the Florida black bears that used to swim from Virginia Key to Key Biscayne. I guess even bears enjoy a beach day. Trails for the preserve begin at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Nature Center. The first trails you come to are the Tequesta Hammock Trail and the Bear Cut Nature Trail. Both trails are natural earth and are .3 miles long. They loop around through a tropical hardwood hammock. On the day I visited they were filled with mosquitoes. The 1.3 mile Osprey Trail is paved and perfect for bikes. It ends in a boardwalk that overlooks a 6,000 year old fossilized mangrove forest reef and gives a spectacular view of downtown Miami. You have to pay for parking in Crandon Park. You will also want to bring bug spray, sunscreen, and water. After you finish your hike you can visit the nature center, hang out on the beach, or explore the botanical garden on the other side of the park.

Upon entering the park, make a left and head to the northern end of the parking lot. Bear Cut has three trails: 1) Tequesta [1/4 mile]; 2) Bear Cut [1/2 mile]; and Osprey and a Nature Center. The Center has exhibits and explains the unique flora and fauna of the Preserve. Pick up a trail guide at the Nature Center. All trails are accesible to the north of the Nature Center and are clearly marked. Tequesta and Bear Cut are more shaded and smaller than the Osprey trail, and cover part of the Hardwood Hammock ecosystem. The Osprey trail is on soft sand, paved and board walk. It takes you by the sand dunes and mangrove forest on an elevated board walk. It is 1.3 miles from the Nature Center to the highlight of the Preserve: a fossilized mangrove swamp that dates 2,000 years ago and is one of only 2 in the world, with the other in Japan. The board walk takes you through the swamp and has an observation platform at the end overlooking the fossilized mangrove. The trail has spurs along the trail that takes you to the beach. The more you walk the more secluded you are. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen

While it's not your traditional beach, it certainly got the job done for me ‍ I honestly loved the lake like feel. The fact that there were small fishes grazing along the surf and the muddy like sand upon reaching the water (which definitely smoothed away some calluses while I swam)! It truly is a great beach for families with kids, something I learned there while entertaining a whole bunch of kiddos with my hula hoop (which I, personally, didn't mind since I love kids but wanted to give a heads up for anyone that's looking for something more kid free). Once the sun began to set, I grabbed some wine from the beach's restaurant. The wine was amazing and very reasonably priced but what was even BETTER? The song selection! I stayed a whole extra 30 minutes just to vibe out There couldn't have been a better way to start my vacation, honestly! I think it's more than worth it to visit this spot the next time you're in South Florida

The 30 acre parcel of land that makes up the park has three distinct habitats: pineland, tropical hardwood hammock, and drained Everglades slough. Hiking trails run through these areas. You do have to be careful while hiking, especially on the half mile Old Cuttler Hammock Nature Trail that is behind the nature center. This area was completely destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992 but the canopy has since come back. There are a lot of limestone formations that are easy to trip on. The land became a private farm in 1922 and a year later it was sold to Lee Arthur Fennell who turned it into one of Miami's first roadside attractions, Fennell's Orchid Jungle which opened in 1923.. Four generations of the Fennell family occupied the land for 70 years until 1992 when Hurricane Andrew destroyed the attraction. Fortunately for the Fennell family their luck changed when they won several million dollars in the lottery. Shortly after that the land was was purchased by the Environmentally Endangered Lands Program and Florida Communities Trust who turned it into a preserve. In 1999 Orchid Jungle was designated as a historic site by Miami -Dade County. The preserve has a loop trail with interpretive boards.
