Merrie Christmas Park has a few paved walkways and a decent, udpated playground area. There are also some very cool looking, huge old banyan trees to be found here, and lots of open space for setting up and playing sports and games. As others have mentioned, this park is sunken down from street level (it's bordered on 2 sides by streets, and on the other two by fences and homes) so once you're down in the park itself, it feels that you could sit on one of the many benches they have here or have a seat on the hillside and let the rugrats loose and know they're not going to have to run into the streets to retrive balls or other items that might otherwise end up there, as the hills surrounding this park pretty much keep everything contained. I was dog sitting for a friend recently, I brought the furry little fellow to this park to have a bit of a run, and it was perfect for that, also. As a bonus for pet owners (responsible ones, anyway), they have poop bag dispensers here so you can clean up after your animals if they should decide to drop a deuce while strolling through this park.

Since it's near the water, you also feel a nice breeze that makes the Miami Heat bearable. The newly addition of the fountain with the water show elevated the space. I also like how it's close to Bayside, Kaseya Center and other parts of downtown; if you want to walk some more or find a place to eat nearby. Parking is also easy to find and affordable. If you want to spend some time outdoors with the family, including your dogs, this is a great place to come.

We stopped at Ricky's Frozen Drinks for a sausage and a lemonade. It was okay, probably a 2.5/5, but honestly, I was hungry so maybe that influenced my rating LOL. There are different parking lots around the park, but you do have to pay for parking. We also saw security driving around a couple of times, which made the area feel safe and well monitored. Overall, a really nice place to walk around, enjoy the views, and spend some time outdoors. Would definitely visit again!

Kennedy was an attorney and politician who served as the Mayor of Miami from 1970 until 1973. Kennedy is credited with drafting the plans for the creation of Miami's Bicentennial Park which opened in 1976. David T. Kennedy Park is 20 acres and sits on the coastal mangrove shore of Biscayne Bay where there is access for kayaking and paddleboarding. Benches are set up so you can catch the sunrise and sunset and bay breeze. Park amenities include a dog park, open lawn, outdoor fitness equipment, picnic table, playground, and volleyball court. The expansive lawns, tree-lined walking paths, and a range of recreational facilities make this park a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Also in the park is A.C.'s Icees frozen lemonade truck selling refreshing treats near the parking lot. This frosted lemonade stand has been a park land mark since 1978. Even on the weekend, the park is spacious enough to never feel crowded. If there is one drawback, it would be the lack of parking during peak use time. Overall, David T. Kennedy Park is a fantastic representation of the Miami Dade Park system by combining relaxation and recreation in one beautiful location. Whether you're visiting for a few hours or spending the day, the park provides a welcoming recreational space for outdoor activities and leisurely enjoyment.

These birds are adorable, but they are threatened by habitat loss. There is a volunteer who regularly checks for Piping Plovers during migration, and she looks for bands that reveal the path of the bird's migratory flight. It's important that we have places for these birds to forage, and I hope the city continues to protect this beach for that use. The bathrooms were a welcome amenity. I had problems paying the parking fee, it was a complicated process. There were about 10 peafowl (peacocks) that roamed the park, a remaining vestige of when this was a zoo. There were many wild birds throughout the park.
