Apple Turnover (1/5, but I don't like spiced apples)
    Brian M.

Full disclosure, I am only reviewing dessert not the meat pies. We already had lunch so we were just looking for a way to cap off a meal. Banana Pudding (4/5 - good flavor but needs more banana in it). Peach Turnover (3.5/5 - nice peaches). Cherry Turnover (3/5 - good texture but lacking cherry flavor). Apple Turnover (1/5 - spiced apple is not for me). Peanut Butter Cookie (4/5 - soft and good texture in the middle with a nice crunch on the edges). The turnovers would be much better if they were hot (or at least warm). I'm going to try our leftovers tonight, heat them up and add some ice cream. Maybe you need to heat them. If so, they should have recommended it. Service was just ok and they forgot one of my items so we had to go back. I'm being generous with 4/5 but I want to come back for the meat pies.

I stopped by Pasty Pantry around 11:45 a.m. on a Tuesday, and the place was quiet. It is a true pickup only spot. You walk in, order at the counter, and head right back out. Parking is easy with a 24 minute green zone out front and a little parking in the back. I ordered a large beef pasty with a large gravy and a peach turnover. The gravy was the highlight for me. Rich, flavorful, and the part of the meal I would actually recommend. The pasty itself was basic. Not bad, just very straightforward. Same with the peach turnover. It was sweet, but it was missing the warm spices that usually give it a little depth. Overall the food felt more on the plain side, which could be perfect for someone with a simpler palate or someone who likes kid friendly seasoning. Service was quick and friendly, and the spot is convenient if you need something warm in a hurry. For me, it was a one time visit. The gravy was great, but the rest did not land on my must return list.

It's hard for me to give this place a low review I've been going here since the 90s , it seems like since my lunch break is after 2pm they are giving me old pasty's. Never had an issue before since I found out new ownership. I have them 3 tries now I'm out !!! It was awesome while it lasted but my food was horrible old and the meat is pink . It's saugy old pasty. Inspect them before leaving it's my fault .

While at a basketball tournament in Cerritos with my daughter time aloud for me to drive 5 miles south and go down memory lane. In the past, it was only beef and chicken and maybe turkey, today they offered chorizo as well as sausage and pepper. I opted for the sausage and pepper and boy was I treated. It was delicious . This place, never disappoints, thank you. I'm glad I picked up an extra couple for later on today or tomorrow

Pasty kitchen was recommended by my sisters, and we were in the area, so I decided to place an order online for pickup. 24 minute curbside parking is available right in front. I ordered a variety of items, including a 6 pack of their beef pasty (comes with 2 gravy containers), veggie pasty, apple turnovers and a broccoli salad. I also got an extra side of beef gravy, which was so good that I may or may not have drank it while taking bites of the hot delicious pasty (thin flaky pastry crust filled with ground beef, potatoes, carrots and onions). Will definitely be back again!

A simple menu with pastries baked with simple ingredients. The flavor, however, is anything but simple. These meat filled pastries are perfection in a pastry package! My mistake was ordering individual ones instead of starting off with the family pack. Be better than me and just order the family pack. :)

My bf has been seeing pasty kitchen all over IG and wanted to try it. So we finally decided to try it yesterday. I really liked both the beef and chicken pies. I thought they were big and hearty with lots of filling and OMG, the gravy made it just perfect! I also liked how the store front had a big window where you can watch them making the dough and meat pies from the outside. Thought that was cool for people to pass by a see it. Parking spots are limited in the back but there is street parking as well. Pricing was decent for the amount of food you get. Like I said, the meat pies were big and filling. Overall, super tasty and would definitely come back again!

After hearing amazing things about this place and being only a few minutes away from the Long Beach VA, I decided to make a pit stop. Best decision ever because this place did not disappoint! I've never had a meat pie before, but they are very similar to empanadas and well who doesn't love a good empanada. They sell a variety of flavors in either small or large and two gravy options (chicken and beef). With an assortment of fruit pies and cookies. What I ordered: Small chicken with a small side of chicken gravy. Definitely my favorite. Small beef with a side of beef gravy. Also great. Small chorizo was good, but I prefer the chicken with chicken gravy. Chicken gravy is a bit more runnier and the beef gravy is thick. Both are flavorful and perfect for dipping. Broccoli salad- definitely a must if you are a fan of this salad. It's really good! Apple fruit pie takes me back to the McDonald's version from the 90's. Especially if you pop it in the air fryer for a couple of minutes. Cherry fruit pie was good, but the apple one was better. The difference between small and large comes down to how much can you eat. Keep in mind these meat pies are very hearty so I recommend getting the small one, but if you are sharing definitely get the large. I will say if you order to go, since they are fresh and packaged great, they stay warm for a while. They are easy to reheat in the oven at 350 for 10-15 minutes. Prices are very reasonable. The staff were friendly and helpful with going over the menu items. If there is a line, it moves pretty fast. Overall, definitely recommended!

This food has history and I'm loving that this hand held hefty pie has been here for so long and no one told me about it!! Location: Katella and Los Alamitos Blvd in Los Alamitos. Not sure if this is the original location, but it is located next to a historical park and the parking is in the back and on the street. Food: All pasty's but they have mostly savory and some sweet turnovers, but you're here for the meat pies. All the pies are hefty, hearty and very filling. Very fitting for a miner who wanted a meal and didn't have to go to the surface for food. The chorizo was chock full of meat and potatoes. The italian sausage was spicy and filled with potatoes also, but oh so yummy. Definitely come hungry and GET THE GRAVY. Don't forget that one. The chicken one was awesome in my book. I'd get all three again. Service was quick and prompt if not the friendliest, but I guess the idea is to get you going again without the fuss. Summary: There are no bathrooms or indoor seating. They have some outdoor picnic tables so most people took them home or ate their pies in the car. They do sell frozen pasty's and sweet turnovers and some pasty's are on offer for the season (first visit had turkey and cranberry sauce. pastys' on offer). There is no cooling off period because as soon as the pasty's are ready hot out of the oven, they are packed and given to you pronto. Bring plenty of napkins, an empty stomach, maybe a knife to split it open or for sharing; sitting in your car to eat and DON'T FORGET THE GRAVY. I didn't experience any mushy crust and even after reheating one of the pies in my toaster oven, it still held up the next day. Definitely coming here again for a pies. Thank you, miners!!! Happy eating!!

Another thumbs up for a local company. We went on Saturday and there was quite a line! We pulled up and it took a minute to find parking. The line moves fast and people are always coming and going. Don't get frustrated. This place has a very focused menu. It is not a dine in place. You are here for the meat pies and maybe some desert. Don't expect to have to make a big decision with this one. They make the pies in front of you. As soon as they come out of the oven, they are packed into the box and given to the customer. They don't spend time cooling down! Hot and fresh food. The pies are good but you need to make sure you have the gravy. The pies don't have a lot of spices. Gravy makes everything better! A couple of loose ends here... there aren't any bathrooms here. Make sure you are ready as you may need to wait in line to order. Next, the kids working on Saturday didn't appear to be the happiest. They weren't rude, just not friendly. If that is going to trigger you or make you mad, stay away so the rest of us don't have to hear about it. We are there to get our order and fill up on these perfectly baked goods. For the rest of us, don't let it bother you. The pies are worth it.

Ask the Community - Pasty Kitchen

Hi, I bought a whole bag of pasties but I forgot what the color coding on the twisty-ties were. I have red, blue, and green. What are they?

    Are credit cards accepted?

    Yes

    Have the vegetarian pasties returned?

No they have not. I was told today that they were discontinued.

What are the directions for a small frozen pasty?

Bake for 45 minutes @ 400º F. I grabbed one of their business cards last time I visited--the directions are printed in the corner!

    Is the regular staff back?

I was in there today for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. It was a whole new staff and they really didn’t seem on top of things.

    Any plans for delivery options?

We have been looking into it, however currently we don't have any. I will post it on social media if and when one comes available. It is still at least a few months out.

Is the veggie pastry vegetarian ? I couldn't tell what the brown consistency was?

    Yes they are.

Does your gravy contain any pork products?

No. Not according to the ingredients listed on the package. I checked for you.

Can I order pasty’s ahead of time if I want at least quite a bit of them for family and friends?

Yes we would actually appreciate it if you called ahead for large orders, especially if it is during the lunch or dinner hour.

Hello I went to your kitchen this past Saturday. It was highly recommended by my friend/coworker. I let her know that the flavor of the pies were delicious BUT very dry! She asked, didn't you get the gravy? NO! I didn't. Am I suppose to ask for it?

Yes, it's not free but it's so worth it!

Have you ever had a calorie count done of one small beef pasty? And a small gravy too by chance? Thank you!

There is no calorie info on the food items. Sorry

Can you request without carrots /peas if ordered ahead of time. Just want the onion/potato/beef?

Unfortunately we cant . However we dont use peas at all in our beef or chicken pasties. I am a picky eater myself so trust when I say that you can hardly notice the amount of carrot in the pasty. (Especially if you have it with gravy).

Do you sell your pasties at any farmer's markets?

No. We only sell them at our restaurant.

Is shipping out of state available?

Unfortunately we do not offer any shipping of our product.

What are the cooking directions for the frozen ones?

Wrap in aluminum foil and oven bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour.

Are the veggie pasties vegan or just vegetarian?

    Yes they are vegan.

Are there onions in their pies?

Hello Nina. We do use a very small amount of onion in our pasties. As you can see by the other answers it is almost undetectable. Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Open until 8?

Yes, except Sundays when they close at 5.

Would you consider the meat in the pasty to be rare, medium, or well done? (I'm sorry if the question seems odd, but I have a fussy eater at home.) Thank you for your help!

The meat is raw before being wrapped in the pasty and then placed in the oven. The meat is well done.

I've been there with just my husband many times, as well as a small group (4). ALWAYS in the dining room, not the bar. She reluctantly seated me in the dining room and there were 2 booths that had only 2 people!!j Throughout our dinner, she commented "You guys are still here?!" "You guys have been here forever!" It was NOT busy or full and not near closing time. There were no "large parties". After I left for a few minutes, my friend told me that Carrie commented AGAIN about how long we were there (we had appetizers, dinner, dessert and tea!) And said it was slow that night but if it was busy as it normally is, she "would have had to kick us out"!!!! And she "just wanted us to know that". Also, the people who were already there when I got seated were "still there" the whole time we were!! I wonder if she said anything to them?? This was my friend's first visit to The Olde Ship. I really tried giving Lawry's an opportunity to redeem themselves, but the lack of urgency on this matter is beyond disappointing. First of all, my family and I have spent an obscene amount of money at Lawry's restaurants. We have referred business here. My best friend is having her wedding reception here next month, and I'm not looking forward to seeing the arrogant manager who had the nerve to correct me on hospitality terminology when praising the "food runner" Ivan who did more for us than the two servers assigned to us. Just accept the compliment and make things right, please. Y'all completely missed the mark on service and quality of food that evening. Be better. That said, My kid was PUKING for three days straight after dining here. The least they could do is apologize for the unfortunate situation and offer to make it better- would it kill them to call? Additionally, I had to go though my friend Todd Johnson, who no longer works for Lawry's to get some sort of contact with the company. I hope to hear from you soon, Laura Ratner. This jewish yenta mom is not going to let this one go... & unfortunately, I have to come back next month for a wedding... you're welcome, your revenue will be a bit better... I hope the service and food isn't as terrible. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else. My poor kid! Lastly, I understand that mistakes can happen. It's the lack of accountability that is truly disappointing re: this situation. I'm not even asking for a refund, just requesting a proper solution to this matter. I Hope to hear from somebody from upper management soon. ---------------------------- I had my birthday here with my family last night. I was disappointed with the service, quality of food, and overall experience. I loved Lawry's and frequented the Beverly Hills location often. (Back when Todd Johnson was in charge) He was amazing and I never had a problem or negative experience when he was with Lawry's. Anyhow, I spoke with the general manager, Eric Ensch, and he didn't seem to care when I directly expressed my concerns. He seemed absolutely insouciant about the situation, therefore I will be reaching out to his boss. Those at the top should be alerted of how things have gone downhill, especially at this location. Let me rephrase: Upper management WILL be notified, so they are aware of the issues as they should rectify the situation(s) IMMEDIATELY. I can go on and on, but it was a very bad experience, and I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. FYI: My daughter got sick from eating the food she ordered, I barely touched mine, and feel sick as well. We essentially paid hundreds of dollars for food poisoning on my BIRTHDAY That said, do yourselves a favor and avoid this restaurant. It is not as good as it once was.

GUINNESS, YES If…read moreyou like Guinness, your gonna like this place. Everything has a bit of Guinness here. Surprisingly really good food for brunch too. Beef stew was really good and hearty. The chicken tenders are ginormous and the boxtys are interesting and delicious. Auld Dubliner also happens to be located at the pike outlets. A short walk away from the aquarium, shoreline village and pine st.

It's been almost 20 years since we've been coming to the Auld Dubliner (aka the auld Dub). When we…read morefirst heard the rumblings that the infamous Irish Pub Company was building a new Irish local, we couldn't wait for its opening. And since we first walked through the doors, we were in love. In love with the atmosphere, the perfectly pulled pints, the food (Dear God the Corned Beef Sandwich is a religious experience! ) and the characters of the staff. We've spent many occasions and life's moments here as well, From birthday dinners to at one time making it out Sunday Supper place to catch a traditional set and our dinner. The Sunday musicians are so good back in 2012 we hired a few to play at our engagement party, and brought a bit of the Auld Dub into our home. Today was no different, popped In for a family birthday celebration and stayed for a Sunday set. The music was fabulous the food amazing and the staff excellent! Ordered the usual: Curry Chips (cooked extra Well Done), and the best corned beef sandwich this side of the Atlantic! It's served perfectly on a crunchy swirled rye bread with an amazing apple jam of apples and caramelized onions. Just excellent! We also ordered an Irish Full Breakfast, which my soul craves every now and then! Basically you can't go wrong eating here.
