I should have listened to other reviews but the pastrami lover inside of me was hoping to have a Katz's-like experience so I went anyway. Nowhere close. The pastrami was super thin which made it dry. The sandwich alone was $10 and for that price I could have bought a whole pound of Boar's Head from the grocery that probably would have been just as good if not better. Love this place! My out of town guests' first spot to hit when they fly into town. Great pastrami sandwiches and the Tacos are awesome! I haven't tried the beef sandwich, I hear it's delicious, I plan on getting it for a switch-up everytime I go in, but the Pastrami is too good to pass up, it calls & I obey. It is a bit pricey for lunch, but I've gone the cheap route a few times (I'm lookin at you, Hurricane Wings) & wind up punching myself in the face over it, so I don't mind it too much. The cash only can be a hassle for some, but for me, I turn to the Misses & say "Aw, geez, I forgot they only take cash, I just have my cards". (She always has cash & hasn't caught onto me yet ;-)... I usually go into every dining experience ready to like a place, and with a 4 star review already in the bag. Be a normally good dining experience, and it stays at 4. Exceed expectations on all levels? 5. Anything else becomes 3 (yay math symbols!). So in the case of Pastrami Dan's, what started as a 4 quickly made it's way to a 3 with the "Cash Only" sign. To mean, not accepting credit cards is unacceptable for a legitimate dining establishment. Unless you are a veritable "hole-in-the-wall", get a freaking credit card machine. After a 10 minute journey to the bank (because they did't have an ATM machine) I was back with cash in hand. Then I finally saw the prices. $11 for a pastrami sandwich. Nothing else. Cans of soda were $2.35. Sides were around $2. Way too much in my opinion. Down to 2 stars. My wife and I decided to share a sandwich instead of spending $22 for two sandwiches, and this must happen a lot because they had bread cut of half already and gave us our own half. Luckily the pastrami was very good, nearly at the level of my beloved "The Hat" in LA. Great flavor, not fatty, and their spicy brown deli mustard worked perfectly with it. Back up to 3 stars for the finish. At $11, it was on the larger end for a sandwich, but definitely $2-3 overpriced. Places like this around the country usually charge around $7 if it's just the sandwich alone. You can go to a restaurant and get something similar, and they'll include fries or a side for $10. Just love this place! It just celebrated 40 years; still just open for lunch with like 5 things on the menu all amazing and cash only... This is a must try place the pastrami is delish but the super tacos are my fave they make them on the grill and melt the cheese on the tortilla and its soooo yummy! Having actually had New York deli, I am a little bit surprised by all of the raves for this place. I've eaten at Katz's in New York, and also had a ton of smoked meat in Montreal, so I guess I have pretty high standards when it comes to cured meat sandwiches. Pastrami Dan's was solid, but it wasn't lifechanging. Having heard about how huge the sandwiches were (and at $10, they should be!), my husband and I decided to split the hot pastrami, which is served on a hoagie. I did see that some people had their sandwiches on rye, but I'm not sure what they ordered as there weren't any options listed on the menu. The sandwich was fairly big, but I did feel that it was overpriced (should be more like $6 or $7). It tasted good, but it was by no means the best sandwich I've ever had, it was just pretty average. Maybe I like my pastrami cut a little thicker rather than shaved in order to get the full flavor? We also ordered a side of potato salad for $1.50, and it was the dinkiest little cup I've ever seen! We maybe got 6 spoonfuls worth... they were a good six spoonfuls, but still! All in all, I felt the thing that was the most NY about this place was the price. Overall this was an amazing experience. From the fumes of pastrami and sizzling on the grill I was hooked right as I entered. As I approached the counter I was greeted by a friendly smile and a hello from the one and only pastrami Dan. I love how this restaurant is a family owned business it really builds a core foundation for quality food. I mean hey if you have your name on it you better make it the best you can. I shared a sandwich with my partner which made a decent sized lunch. The Super Taco was interesting, like a hot Tex-Mex mess...if Taco Bell crunchy tacos are a guilty pleasure for you, you'll enjoy it! Well, finally made it here after 6 weeks. We're very spoiled in New York (Manhattan) Not used to seeing so much fat. I get it very lean back north and never on anything but a great rye bread. But unable to find a comparable rye here so far. The "torpedo roll" cracked me up. Never saw that done before. But it's not sliced like home so maybe a roll that can hold it makes sense. Most importantly, was missing more of a taste. It was just ok as warm. Have heard of two other places I have to try. For the money ($11.99) the 8 ozs. is a nice size portion. Pastrami Dans is Old Fashioned but as good as it gets. With the signature Pastrami or the layers of roast beef that melt into you're mouth. I have never had a bad experience here. They are quick to the punch and make sure you're not waiting too long. I recommend you bring money because you will have to run to the bank. No credit or debit cards accepted. If you get the layers on layers of Roast Beef, don't be afraid to dip it in the gravy they give you. Serving only two sandwiches sounds like a downfall for a small business like this, but when the two sandwiches are perfected and the quality is so good, they will have me coming back as soon as it is October, (they are closed all of September.) read more

Who doesn't love a good pastrami sandwich? They're delicious, and the pastrami here did not disappoint. I was disappointed however, when we arrived and saw the "Cash Only" sign on the door (which as a side note rant...can't we all just get on the credit card?!) So, we left to find a nearby ATM and came back to order our $10.99 sandwich, which ultimately was a bit too small for the price. We chose to share it and it left us hungry. Back in the early 70's I used to go to the original Pastrami Dan's in Greenwich, CT. One day I went to get one of their fantastic sandwiches and they were gone. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was and have been ever since. Fast forward to 2008. I have retired and now spend my winters in sunny Florida (Bonita Springs). While driving down RT 41 in Naples much to my surprise I see a little restaurant called Pastrami Dan's. Having nothing to lose I stopped to check it out. Well much to my pleasant surprise it turned out to be the same place now owned by Dan's son Dan (not a Jr.-different middle names) . It is just as good as ever.
