I give 5 stars to Pastrami Dans. My Mother discovered this place back in the 1970's after moving to Naples from the New York Metro area. This place makes a pastrami sandwich as good as any in NYC. The reason for the 3 stars is mainly the price. It is not a $13 sandwich. You're competing with the big boys at that price. No American cheese was disappointing as well. All they have is pastrami, roast beef and a yummy taco'esq concoction. The PASTRAMI: Not house made but good quality, nicely spiced, just the right fat ratio, very thinly sliced, steamed and piled high on the 8"-10' house roll/bun/loaf thingy. The bread is very good and is my choice but if you want to "kick it old school", just ask for RYE. It's slathered with the right amount of tasty brown deli mustard and they tuck a few sliced pickles in there too. Very Important! The pickles need to be there, don't mess with them just because you've never had it that way. I don't care what you think you want, if it doesn't have pickles on it, you're wrong. In fact I got my guy at Katz's putting pickles on my pastrami there. Back to Dan's, It's a really good sandy (sandwich) and your gonna be happy. Yes it's a "must do" for Naples. It is a hard flat tortilla that gets a "pile" of moist seasoned ground beef topped with grated cheddar left to melt crispy and then drizzled with a hot sauce /salsa'ish dressing that's got just the right kick, finished with tomaters and some shredded iceberg. I can't remember if sour cream is an option but if it is, I did away with it years ago, doesn't need it. Authentic taco? HELL NO! It's a PD Taco and will have its place in Naples history. Order at the counter and take a seat. Bring Cash and lots of it cause Dan aint playing with prices or plastic and your wife/husband won't know your blowing coin and cheating on your diet. I hit up Pastrami Dan's a few weeks back when traveling for work. I needed to get a quick lunch before some meetings started and took to Yelp to find a place close to the hotel. I picked this place because it was close, it had good reviews and I really really like pastrami. There isn't much to report here other than I really really liked the pastrami sandwich here. It was good sized (about 8 inch bun), it was stuffed with pastrami, a pickle slice and a good amount of mustard, the pastrami was fresh sliced from a brisket and was tender, juicy, just the right temperature and spiced just right. Every bite was fantastic. I also ordered the chili as a side. It was good but not exceptional. Beef, tomato base, not too much chili spice and no beans (I like that part). If there was one thing that knocks this place is the cash only policy. I get this policy in a large city setting but in a suburban strip mall, credit cards should be a norm. We walked in the door of Pastrami Dan's to get lunch and we were greeted by a very rude man behind the counter who yelled at us and said no dogs allowed. My husband was carrying his service dog under his arm, but the man did not even care that it's a service dog. When my husband told him it was a service dog the grumpy man behind the counter said "I really can't have dogs in here, but because it's a service dog I'll let it go." The dog touched the edge of the countertop with his paw and both of the men behind the counter yelled at him and said " it's time to leave now, you need to go." The pastrami sandwich is good, overpriced, but good. The reason for the one-star is because of the following. First, the owner obviously doesn't believe that Covid is real. He doesn't wear a mask (nor did some of his staff) and most of his customers (probably his regulars) weren't wearing a mask either. This wouldn't be so much of an issue if he weren't in contact with customers, but he's right there in the front talking with customers and taking your money. Second, he stuffed the restaurant with tables and chairs. Should you go, be prepared to sit on your neighbor's lap because there's virtually no space between your table and the people sitting at tables next to you. Third, he's obviously a Trump supporter because he spoke aloud about how ridiculous it is that the Dems are pushing for impeachment. Don't know about you, but I don't go to a restaurant to hear the owner/ manager talk aloud about his political views.
