I took my chili cheese dog to go and when I got into my car I did not know what to expect behind the styrophome hotdogs box. What I experienced was chilicheesedog perfection in my opinion... poppyseed bun (not so ordinary) with perfectly assembled chili and cheese sauce. Not soggy. Perfect temp. Great chili. Went back recently and the place has changed. The lady taking the order didn't understand English. I don't speak Spanish and she couldn't understand French. Finally got our order in for fries and three italian beef sandwiches. We sat at the picnic tables in the sun while the flies attacked us. After about 20 minutes the food was ready and wow, what a disappointment. The beef was more like chunks of roast beef, not thin sliced at all and absolutely no good flavor. I am assuming the place went through a change in ownership and the new folks have no connection to the Chicago dog or beef sandwich that I grew up with. We can't go back and after reading the other recent reviews, it sounds like this place is on the fast track to a health inspector violation. :( read more

Lucky Dawgs 1 started out as a food cart located at big box hardware store. Not sure how they got to this building but Hurricane Irma had a lot to do with it. When I ordered I was asked for here or to go. I wanted it for here since I am not putting Chicago Style hotdogs with their raw onions and seasoning in my car. Mrs. K's car yes mine no. :) I just ordered two Chicago Style hotdogs with a diet coke. They came out fast hot and ready. They had the atomic relish, sport peppers, raw onions, sliced pickle, and season salt, and mustard. The only option I did not get was tomato. One thing that really got me was these two women working in South Florida with no air-conditioning. Real hard workers for sure. They proceeded to tell me they had a jumbo, ok let's go for it. My first issue is they bring a hot dog that was FROZEN, I mean it had ice chips on it and they throw it right on the grill. It took all of 10 minutes to cook on that grill. When I finally get it, it has green peppers, onions and mustard on it.. wait, what??? I did not ask for this. Then it was on a poppy seeded bun. A simple scan of my review history will reveal that I am a big fan of Chicago style Italian beef sandwiches. My gold bar standard through which all others are judged is Johnnie's Beef 8n Chicago which is not only my favorite Italian beef place, but one of my favorite restaurants, period. So when I saw this place as I was scanning restaurants in my new hometown, I was excited to give it a try. I ordered what I normally order when I go to an Italian beef place. A beef and Italian sausage combo with hot & sweet peppers dipped. I'm happy to report that this place, largely, came through. I would describe the sandwich as "above average." The beef itself was tasty, I really liked the sausage, the bread was "right," and the peppers were decent. First off, the sandwich was big enough & messy enough that it couldn't just be lifted up and eaten. This required silverware & a lot of napkins. Perfect! I think the sausage was the best component of sandwich. Nice spiciness & cooked up right. I didn't love the giardinara peppers used on this sandwich. Probably my only real gripe. Other than that, the sandwich was pretty spot on. I also had a couple bites of the polish. It comes with grilled onions and sport peppers on a poppy seed bun. The one I tried was dressed with yellow mustard. I enjoyed it as well, but nowhere near as much as the beef. They have pretty much every other staple you'd expect from a Chicago place. The prices were cheap & the turnaround time on the food was quick. It's nice to find a solid place like this for when the craving hits. Definitely recommend. read more

Personally, not my favorite style of hot dog. I'm from the Toronto area and used to the jumbo all beef dogs they have a street corners and ball games. The Vienna style dog is good, but small. You have to eat about 6 of them to get full. But if you're a fan of the Chicago dog, Lucky Dawgs 2 is the place for you. The hot dog tasted great and was actually better than the one I had at Wrigley Field. Lucky Dawgs 2 also does sausages, fresh cut fries, ice cream and burgers. It was the owner John that said I really had to try the burger, talked about how it was charbroiled, full of flavor and even better as a double as you get 4 sides of char instead of 2. The burger comes with all the basics, and you can also add bacon, cheese, jalapeños, fried onions and more. So... had the burger and it was great. In the end, the best part about Lucky Dawgs is the welcoming and casual atmosphere. Sitting on the bench, enjoying some food and watching world go by. My husband ordered the Maxwell St., Polish, which comes with grilled onions. The onions were literally raw barely heated. I kindly asked the man working if he wouldn't mind grilling them extra for me. He responded with, "this is the way its supposed to be." I've ordered this many times have never seen it this way. Was elated to find Lucky Dawgs right here by my house in Naples. I'm a transplant from Chicago (not the 'burbs) so I know Chicago food. My husband and I ordered the Chicago beef with fries and milkshakes. I love mine with sweet peppers, hot giard, and dunked in gravy (bread soggy). My husband like his the same but dry bread, au jus on the side. Fries are hand cut and served in a bag with grease soaking the outside. Pour some hot giard with oil over them, shake, and spill out onto a plate. Delicious! The sandwich itself was very good although the beef seemed to be lacking salt. I'm not deducting anything for this because it just might be my own preference to have my food a little more on the salty side. I had the vanilla flavor shake and my husband had the chocolate.
