Pastaio Via Corta is a fresh organic homemade pasta, provisions, and natural wine shop in the heart of Gloucester. My mom and I were visiting Gloucester a week or so ago and, while shopping around town, came across Pastaio. Once we saw that fresh pasta in the window, we had to stop in. They make fresh pasta and they dry pasta in the shop as well. Then there's a bunch of other Italian goods and foods - and the wine! The staff were wonderful, and my mom and I walked out with dried pasta, candied lemon peels, a bottle of wine, and more. If I lived in the area, I'd be here once a month to stock up! DO NOT GO HERE, IT WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE. You will find yourself unable to enjoy grocery store pasta, you won't even consider going down the aisle. Instead, you'll be doing weekly fresh pasta nights. Do you like wine? Definitely don't go here, because there's a great assortment, BOOM, you'll buy a bottle with your fresh pasta. I haven't had the raviolis because I'm not full on masochist (everyone says they'll change your life even though the owner insists she is more proud of the spaghetti) Speaking of the owner, I've caught her doing the dishes herself, how many owners do that? How humble, very demure. Not to say the staff isn't helpful and friendly because Tyler will help you pick out a bottle that is tall and skinny so you don't have guilt about finishing it in one night. Almost feels like the owner is doing you a favor by letting you come into the store! no fuzzy failing here.we dropped about $150. I'm sorry but I find when I'm telling the person behind the counter to have a good day and get no response....I find customer service to go be just as important as the product you're selling. maybe a bad day. My family purchased for my husband quite a bit of pasta and an all natural, preservative-free, organic bottle of Cabernet wine at Pastaio Via Corta as a Father's Day gift. Although we are not sommeliers, we have traveled around Europe and the US drinking different types of wine for many, many decades, our libation of choice with meals. We can recognize if wine is tannic, dry, full bodied, etc. Needless to say, we have a very good wine palate. This wine was beyond awful, vinegar like, and undrinkable. Two days after opening the bottle of wine, we returned the almost full bottle to the store and spoke to the young woman behind the counter. She was nice enough to explain the differences between types of wines, letting the bottle breathe, etc. knowledge we are acutely aware of. It was obvious she thought I was incapable to discern good wine, and quite frankly, somewhat insulting. The bottom line is, even to a novice, if you swallow a sip of wine, it should not burn your throat as it goes down! After a ten minute wine lesson and explaining a bottle from the crate was tested prior to selling it, it was clear from her point of view the wine was just fine. I was never offered a refund or an exchange for another bottle or product. Because I feel this is very bad customer service, I won't be going back to this establishment to purchase anything. This place is the real deal. The fresh pasta is sublime and so simple--perfect to impress company or just show your love to your family. They also have fresh sauces, cheese, olives, even cold brew! They have a giant wine selection that is curated with love and thought--actually everything here is. There are dried pastas, oils, ingredients like flours, capers, tomatoes, Calabrian chilies, just the most authentically Italian and gorgeous ingredients you can imagine. And yes, it is on the expensive side of things if you're comparing to the grocery. But it is so so very worth it to support this shop, and to get the quality ingredients that are so wonderfully curated. The people who work there and the owner are so helpful--I tell them my ingredients and they suggest a pasta shape, I tell them what I'm serving and the suggest a wine. Just incredibly dedicated. We found this shop by accident, but what a delicious accident! I bought a bunch of different things, and we have been trying them one by one. Well actually I combined the sauce and ravioli the first night and YUM! I opened the tomatoes in a jar and we made a sauce with zucchini. Then I did that again with a jar of tomato puree. The small-batch soda was consumed immediately on the way home in the car! I still have some things left to open and try. This is the first fresh pasta shop in Cape Ann, and it's extraordinary. Danielle is very helpful with letting customers know how to cook the pasta, as well as best sauces to prepare with it. She also carries lots of ingredients you can't get in the area like Italian canned tomatoes & excellent cheeses. She'll also take special requests for pastas and makes THE BEST burrata I've ever had. Love that she works closely with a local farm to use flour from wheat they've grown. Such a welcome addition to Gloucester! read more

What a wonderful, authentic market. I purchased fresh lasagna noodles for our Christmas dinner and what beauties! I grew up near Boston's North End where the real deal in Italian food in Massachusetts lives. Pastaio is a "throw-back" in the nicest sense, not only with the fresh pasta but with the fresh marinara, the olives, the cheese, the Italian espresso beans................and the wine! Michelle is a charmer and a dedicated artist. This market is a boon to our community. Perhaps only for special occasions for some of us, but definitely a wonderful addition to Main street and the choices we now have for exceptional Italian ingredients. We happened to pass by this shop while wandering around Gloucester after brunch, and couldn't resist bringing home some freshly made ravioli. It had a spinach wrapper and was filled with ricotta, marscapone, and spring onion. Unfortunately, our ravioli suffered a bit from being in the car all day, but was still delicious when we consumed it two days later. This shop is a gem, an expression of Danielle's passion for great pasta. We were wowed by the array of homemade pastas in the glass display (including nettle noodles!). There are mouthwatering cheeses and sauces to go with the pasta. This is not a restaurant - you buy the pasta and fixings and make them at home. We watched Danielle make pasta by hand using her hand-crank machine. There's nothing quite like fresh pasta, and Pastaio did not disappoint. It was scrumptious and the texture was wonderful.
